external video bridge chip SIS301 MV, which is also responsible for the TV output
Why oh why do companies insist on using SiS's chips for TV out! It's horrible!! VIA used them on the Epia boards, and it stinks! Great little boards don't get me wrong, but it's TV out is nasty. Now these guys. Will the pain never end??!
At least with cameras there is an incentive to bring them back -- you need to get your pictures developed! Sure, there's that $5. I doubt that's enough for most people.
Even if they did, how many people are going to get one in the first place? You can pickup old mobile phones now for next to nothing.
I'm in the UK tho, it might be difference over in the US. Anyone over there considering getting one? For what reason?
There's an idea, a desktop version of the Zaurus! A flatscreen monitor that contains the computer. A few CF/SD slots at the side for removeable storage, and the usual USB/Firewire/PS2 ports. Dunno about the harddrive tho, flash storage is quite slow and if you write to it to many times it will begin to fail. Would be a huge bugger to upgrade... (expensive)
Mostly, but I also like having the CD with it's own case, coverart and sometimes the lyrics. Sure I could download all of that and print it out, but it wouldn't be the same.
I say that now, but as printers improve who knows!
this could be the beginning of the end for the audio CD
I really hope not! At least with CD's I can still rip to whatever audio format I prefer, in whatever quality level I wan't. Can't do what with AAC files. (Well you could, but transcoding music can degrade the quality quite a bit)
It's also nice having something real, instead of a file that you may or may not own. Or worse, can disappear or become unplayable for who knows what reason they'd cook up.
Thanks, also, to the helpful AC's telling me to LOOK UP! AT NIGHT!)
hehe, at least they where on-topic:)
I have to admit that when I first saw the aurora last week, I mistook it for cloud. It's not always that easy to spot by looking, sometimes it's very fuzzy and pale. Later in the night it did get a lot stronger, and more colourful. By then it was hard to miss.
Precisely, but how is this not spam? Shops in the UK are already doing this with SMS. I now avoid walking past the Carphone Warehouse in Liverpool Street Station because of the SMS spam they've sent out as I walk past on a number of occasions.
Really? I didn't know they where already doing this. Wonder how that works.
I didn't mean it wasn't spam, just not like what we get via email. I normally get 40 or 50 email spams a day (tho it's been 800-ish per day this past week), none of which are even slightly relivent.
But yea, it is still spam and still annoying. Just not quite as annoying:)
I doubt there would be spam like we have now on email, the range is simply to short. But I can see supermarkets or similar companys using this to send you messages while in there store.
Annoying sure, but at least semi-relevant to what your doing. And at least you can turn it off. (You can, can't you?)
SiS's chipsets are great, and even their TV-out chips can't stink nearly as bad as anything VIA touches
.. so I should know :)
Hello from Earth.
Watching a DVD through SiS's TV out chip is more painful than watching it through mplayers libaa output.
I used to own a Savage 3D

Competition is good!

[/sis rant]
But good luck to them
Only John Cleese could make something as simple as 'Ah!' sound funny.
This is shaping up to be a good movie!
The past three times I've seen a machine getting infected by an internet worm, it took less than 30 seconds. All three times.
My firewall gets hits to port 135 about 4 times a minute.
It's crazy!!

Would there be a market for this kind of thing?
So an as-yet-unseen project that won't be released for years yet is the beginning of the end for Macromedia?
Why is this news? It's little short of MS hyping for there next profit project. What would be news is a fully open alternative to Flash!
Altho if you're talking the DRM angle I agree

Here you go:
:)
http://www.sec.noaa.gov/pmap/index.html
That shows the current aurora activity for both poles. Click on the one nearest to you and wait until there's some activity near you
Even if the activity looks quite far from you, check anyway. We had lots of aurora visable here even tho the map showed it about a hundred miles away.
Dog doo spelling skills
I'm at work but my brain isn't. It's still at home sleeping.
deleting the messages to make sure there's enough room for my friends' messages to get through is going to be more annoying than email spam
Fair point!
Most mobiles don't have anything in the way of filters either. Urg...

Troll?
Ah crap, my boss reads Slashdot!!
I notice it's running on a Dell machine. In the first season all the bad guys used 'em.
Hmm... my Boss also has a Dell! Arhh!!
Does that include an 802.11g driver at all?
Nice work on the mini-distro btw!
It wasnt a trailer, as the description says, its a teaser
That's good. Because trailers are sooo boring!
you suck
Do not underestimate the power of the straw.
There's not much to this trailer, but it should be an interesting movie! If you can't wait until this movie, check out this. :)
On a related note, the teaser (ie. no content from the movie but a little snippet from the last one) of Resident Evil: Apocalypse is out!
*puts hands on head* Oh-no!!!
*POP*
Nah, I'm safe. I had left a non-bootable floppy disk in the drive!
Has anyone noticed any effects of the Aurora other than the nice light show?
Last night a computer turned on here all by itself sometime during the night. It's never happened before, but it could just be a concidence.
One wonders how much better the 'new' (old?) Enterprise would have done. It seems more streamlined. Voyager could probably beat them all tho.
*realises what he's talking about*
I'll get my coat...
Welp my IP has changed. If your curious, the original image is here.
