    A good chunk of the games coming out are cross platform. Which, unfortunately, means the PC version will commonly inherit the problems of the console ones, provided the port is even done correctly.

    Oh, and how about a ... taskbar! I don't know how people can work without a clearly understandable, clickable list of running windows. Expose you say? sorry, but that is just a flashy hack to cover up the fact that eyecandy is more important then usability and effectiveness.

    I find expose and the doc far easier to use than the task bar. It's easier to think in apps than in windows, especially when there's a pile of windows open.

    And common sense says "don't open attachments"

    MyDoom.A, which *required* the user to open the attachment was one of the fastest spreading viruses ever.

    Common sense is in short supply.

    Exactly. Unless you have an tech-admin person around the house, Linux is not suitable at all. So many people claim Linux is ready for the desktop because their grandma can open Firefox and surf the net.

    And Windows is? How long (errr short) before a non-savvy Windows user is compromised? Windows isn't ready for wide distribution either, but it is out there.

    The number I last saw was 80+%.

    I've seen known compromised machines spewing for over a month after abuse@ was notified, so it's still an ISP issue.

    I agree with that, but not an RBL for mail. That's being used now by many ISPs, including AOL with little to no effect.

    Drop their packets. ALL OF THEM. Have the border router use the list, not the mail server.

    And before someone yells "collateral damage", I've been on the receiving end of that before (I'm on RoadRunner), so I know damn well the issues.

    When a Mac break, what do you do? You have to ship it in or take it to the Apple store

    I don't know about the mini, but that's not true with the new iMac. That is largely consumer replaceable bits (I was quoted >90%. I'm guessing the only thing that isn't is the LCD screen). They ship you the parts, you ship the broken ones back.

    Yes.

    My ISP complained to me about SpamAssassin running on my local server (they called it a trojan in the original mail, but I eventually figured out what they meant after talking with someone with a moderate clue). The negative lookups were pushing positive ones out of the cache.

    I understand why it happens, and that's the same reason that NT class systems are only 2.

    On the systems that don't support it, driver could be merged with kernel and that gives what you have now. It would be only virtual levels (like IRQL on NT systems) in that case.

    NT installs drivers into kernel, they can do whatever they want. That's one of my gripes about NT (and Linux) - there needs to be 3 levels, not 2. User/Driver/Kernel allows better error handling and recovery over User/Kernel.

    If the keys aren't revoked, you are correct.

    If they are revoked, that model becomes worthless for new disks (has any revocation actually happened yet with CSS?)

    You're off by more than an order of magnitude. A billion keys would be 16 GB (128 bits = 16 Bytes)

    Maintaining a list that size across all the vendors would be a logistical nightmare.

    And if it's one key per player model/production run, I can see crackers putting a DOS on particular models just for the heck of it or for blackmail.

    This has the same flaws as all of them.

    The authorized user and the attacker are one and the same. You can't protect against that, not with cryptography.
