Yeah, I'm sure Sony is in tears. All us PS3 owners are on suicide watch because you won't be buying the console.

Oh well, I guess we'll go back to playing great exclusives like Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and soon Hot Shots Golf, Little Big Planet, GT5, MGS4, Final Fantasy, Killzone 2, Unreal Tournament 3, and more. Poor us.

  2. Stop with the "Software Emulation" FUD on 60GB PS3 Price Cut Not Just a 'Fire Sale' · · Score: 1, Troll

Software emulation of the PS2 games is BETTER than the hardware Emotion Engine for the vast majority of users. Software emulation allows for 1080p upscaling, with the hardware emulation you're stuck at 480p. Europe has received only software emulation in their PS3s and there are few to no issues reported.

Bottom line is software emulation on PS3 works better and has more features than hardware.

  3. Re:Oh well on 60GB PS3 Price Cut Not Just a 'Fire Sale' · · Score: 0, Troll

Keep spreading the FUD, FUDster. They haven't crippled anything, software emulation for backward compatibility works just fine. It's been in the Euro consoles since day one. If you have an HDTV software emulation is BETTER than hardware emulation because software has upscaling.

The consumers don't seem to view this price cut as a farce. PS3 is the NUMBER ONE seller on Amazon right now:

How about Xbox 360? It's #20, behind such consoles as PS3, Wii, DS Black, PS2 Black and PS2 Silver.

BTW the article summary is 100% FUD. If it were written by paid Microsoft shills I don't see how it would change from its current state.

I occasionally watch downloaded videos on my PSP when I'm on an airplane. I'm not thrilled about UMD movies, but I sure would have bought a UMD movie + PSP game + 1GB memory stick + a PSP for $200 instead of buying just a PSP for $170.

Obviously watching a movie on your PSP won't be as great as watching at home. I think Sony needs to cut the price of their UMD movies a bit to reflect this.

What the hell are you talking about?? Sony talked about PS2 for two minutes or so, then PSP for about fifteen minutes, then Home / PSN for fifteen minutes, followed by PS3 for about an hour. They saved the best for last.

  10. My Thoughts from E3 on Sony Displays New PSP, Polished Games At E3 · · Score: 0, Troll

The new slim PSP is awesome. The bundle with the new PSP + 1 GB memory stick + a game + several UMD movies in an extraordinary value. Additional features on PSP are cool, basically TV out on your PSP. They said the new PSP is something like 33% lighter and 25% thinner, unfortunately it will be 100% less hackable too. Not too excited about the 80GB PS3, I think the 60 GB PS3 priced at $499 is a better value.

Home looks great, everything I hoped it would be. It's a full-featured virtual MMO world with tons of new social networking features. I predict home will replace the normal "launch game" interface of the PS3, launching your games in a 3D virtual world is so much cooler than just using a menu.

PS3 -- GAMES, GAMES and MORE GAMES. That phrase was repeated twice, and it's true. FIFTEEN first-party exclusives coming out for PS3 before the end of the fiscal year and more third party exclusives. 150 Blu-Ray games out for PS3 by the end of the year in North America. Obviously we're going to see a large number of titles launch in the next five months. All the games presented looked good, some looked AMAZING. Gran Turismo - WOW. It was like watching a real car race. MGS4 - the LAST game of the Metal Gear series. Also looks awesome. Little Big Planet is something we've never seen from a video game before. And don't forget KILLZONE 2. Just AMAZING. Graphics were off the chart. I can't describe how awesome Killzone 2 looked, you have to see for yourself. Wow just wow.

Overall it was an awesome presentation by Sony. They presented what I wanted to see which was GAMES. Way better than the boring Nintendo presentation with spreadsheets and graphs and NO GAMES. I especially liked the Kaz "Riiiiidge Racer" joke, shows these guys have a sense of humor. Congrats on a great E3 Sony.

I admit to being a Sony semi-fanboy, but what I saw in the Killzone 2 video was AMAZING. This is why Sony put the Cell processor into the PS3. The graphics are better than any shooter I've ever seen. Killzone 2 will sell millions of PS3s on its own when it ships, the game looks that good.

I agree that AAA exclusives are very important for a console. So let's look at the AAA exclusives for PS3: Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Now the AAA exclusives for PS3: Zelda, Wii Sports(!?!), Wario Ware (?????). Those last two are reaches in my opinion, especially Wii Sports which is fun but isn't a full-length game.

If you look at the Wii library against the PS3 library you'll see the same number of great games, yet PS3 has a whole lot more okay to good games, and a whole lot more games period. So while people complain that the PS3 is lacking games, the Wii is starving for games. Yet people keep buying and praising the Wii, buyers don't seem to care.

I think in a few months the PS3 "no games" rap will have subsided once this next line of exclusives hits the market.

  16. Re:This might not help on In Wake of Price Drops, Further PS3 Doubts · · Score: 1

The price cut will definitely steal buyers away from the 360. Why buy a 360 for $400 (or $480) when you can get a PS3 with free online, HDMI (only 360 Elite has HDMI), Blu-Ray player, free online forever and a free MMO forever (Home). In addition there's no big quality problem with the PS3. Unlike the 360, the PS3 is well-engineered and doesn't suffer from widespread overheating problems. Yes, M$ upped their warranty, but sending your console away to get fixed is still downtime.

  17. Re:Price Drop != Cheaper PS3 on In Wake of Price Drops, Further PS3 Doubts · · Score: 0

No, it's a price cut. The vast majority of PS3 buyers chose the 60GB version because of the (incorrect) assumption that the 20GB was a gimped console. New buyers will now save $100. Smart buyers will still be able to buy a 20GB console, which are selling for around $400 new or $350 second-hand on Ebay right now.

A price cut is a price cut, even if you cover your eyes and plug your ears and scream "la-la-la-la-la I can't hear you".

The game library of the PS3 is small compared to the 360 because it shipped a year after the 360. Compare the library of the PS3 to what the Wii has for a fair comparison -- PS3 has far more games. This "problem" with the PS3 will be fixed shortly, there are a bunch of great exclusives just around the corner. MGS, Gran Turismo, Heavenly Sword, Hot Shots Golf, Little Big Planet, etc, etc.

PS3 is doing just fine for a console that shipped only seven months ago.

Software emulation on the PS3 works just as well as the hardware emulation!! Software emulation as been in the Euro consoles since release over there. No features are being taken away at all. This is a gaming console we're talking about, not a PC. There is no disadvantage of emulating in software rather than hardware. There are no background apps that will be starved for CPU time because the emulation is in software rather than hardware!
