Look, a nice retrospective on a news site is nice once in a while. But with too many of these "X years ago, Y happened" posts detract from Slashdot's credibility as a news site. Repeat, news is what's going on, not what happened years ago.
When they said that the $599.99 price tag for the PS3 was justified, that people would work longer hours to own it, it didn't increase their profits. But national productivity did increase by 7%.
Gosh, doesn't the submitter realize that Slashdotters are computer geeks and not biology geeks? Use analogies we can understand, like comparing this "hiding" virus to a rootkit or something.

As a college freshman myself, I find both to be useful in different situations. Electrical engineering class obviously has plenty of diagrams, so paper and pen works best for that. Math has all sorts of stuff that's much harder to do on a computer. But psychology has (almost) no diagrams or equations, so typing works better for that simply because it's faster.
Look, this whole discussion is almost pointless. People are going to use whatever they feel the most comfortable with. Go to any college and you'll see that neither paper nor laptops are extinct.
