after struggling for a few days with the results of teh update i just finished resintalling 10.2.6. Most anoying thing was that my mac beige g3 wich was up for weeks with continious usage started crashing with a blank screen every few hrs once i started using the netowrk a bit. Heck i was coding a new nntp app (check out osxnews.sf.net heh, might as well plug it) and any heavy usage of the netowkr like downlaging lists would kill my mac. Dunno what it was but it was really sad to see it crach like that.:(
the final in the name final fnatasy is becasue final fantasy (the original) was the final fantasy. around 1987 Square was about to go kaput after a bunch of crappy games on NES and this was their last shot last hope last idea.. their final fantasy. Funny how it turned out to ber one of the greatest games ever made

actually there is a *nix official client. Maybe just not for your flavor. its right here . Its a wonderful app.. better than the windows client. Supports everything but the voice/video stuff and even LOGS conversation unlike the windows version.
i just got a beige g3 266 off ebay! for $100 it had 1 4gig hdd and 256 megs of RAM runs jaguar like a charm! i gave up my athalon with linux on it and use this as my desktop. I use linux toplay movies (becasue this is too shlow for divx) and as a file server;-p
I lOVE MY G3! go for it!

debian seems to fit what teh state of linux is today. As a long time linux user myself, i found my self like most other techies using a mac now.
The fact is, my mac outperforms on a g3 my atalons with linux. Sure i need mplayer on th athalon if want to play any dvds or divx files but, as far as usability goes, linux lost some time ago.
I write code, in mfc, cocoa , java and some qt and gtk so i think i can say this with some degree of authority: it is much easier to churn out "features" that most users wont use than fine tune the stuff you already have. Debugging and optimizing is a bitch. But i has to be done. everyone want to do flashy stuff and too few will sit down and imporve teh app. That is OSS's greatest failure. Take a page from apple, get it workingnicely first then make it better.
about transmeta chips.. i know they dont perform as wellad ppc or x86 chips but from what i have heard, they have low power consumption in comparison to the more power fuke chips..
The one thing that intrrugued me the most (and this is after i saw a friends sony viao) was that these chips make up for the lack of speed in th ability to emulate any processor.. so i ask this: has anyone done it.Have you run ppc software on your transmeta chip... or anythign like that?
