We all hate the DMCA... but piracy is just as bad. If we are all about options and freedom, then we cannot press our values on others, if someones makes a good product through their own hardwork, they have EVERY RIGHT to do what they wnat to with it.. it is called freedom. I am sick and tired of people here saying piracy is Ok. Dont link piracy to DMCA and try to justify it. I fear piracy or the preception of it promotiong piracy somehow is goging to hurt the open source movemnt.. and it willbe out fault. We CANNOT force anyone to make their product free. Blizzard makes a good product, they need the money, they have every right to try to protect themselves, battlenet is one thingh they have gone to great lenghts to protect and i can understand why. I am a programmer too... if i made a prgram and decided to sell it, i would protect it to.. its called freedom people...we also have rights
hey imagine the wonderful results we would get if we get that nifty fast little rox filer into the whole foray.. just how Mac OSX like we can make our desktops...
The fact is both GNOME and KDE should stop trying to mimic MS windows...
I use nautilus onmy desktop, turn off alot of the bells and whistles, smooth icons etc, and you have a realtively fast system. It does not however compare to ROX as far as speed goes.
I installed the ROX and i just found it.. lacking a polished interface, it was hard to configure.. the options menu had very few thing i could fiddle around with and as soon as in inatlled, i didn't know what to do.
I personally think nautilus is the best fm as far as ease of use goes, speed, i give to ROX.... heck anything beats GMC and its clunkyness
I love quicktime, but i cant seem to understand teh significance of this, because, 1 MPEG-4 or atleast a variant of this is already in circulation and wide spread use as both DIVx and WMA --legal issues aside--. What does fullblown MPEG 4 bring to this that we dont already have? does MS pay fees like this to MPEF LA? does DIVx (yeah right)?
The problem here is that MPEG is hurting the guy who is willing to pay. Its kinda like customers in a shop paying more for goods becasue the shop needs to cover the cost of shoplifters...
Its quite sad really.
on the lower right there is a link that compares Pocket PC to palm,
http://www.palmos.com/platform/os5/palmvspocket.ht ml
it really makes me sad that it has come down to this, PALM makes a gret product, but as far as the hardwar goes, they (at the moment) are far behind Pocket PC, the entire argument is that there is more software for palm.
moving over towrds ARM, is a smart move, and it should bring new life into palm... but the best thing would be to incorporate into the OS the good features of BeOS
it just seems to mention morpheous.. what bout fast track and Kaaza which use the same technology.
all the more reason to use GIFT's open network
http://gift.sourceforge.net/
hey, my gundams fit in atny box and can be assembled in a few hours...of course.. depending on your skill...
beyond that though, a mobile suit is very possible since they say that there will be drivers, can you imagine the mobility and agility of such a thing, look at how easily and quicly it can turn.. compare that to a LAnd rover...
i mean seriously,
look at how far we have come.. it is a ebventualty that we will have mobile suits, that is probably one of the best disigns too.. the advancements being made in the field of bipedal motion and robotics and processor power of a chip will all contribute to this... the fact that people are willing to spend good money to do this is also very good.
More money for science... is always good
that we need to fingure out how much of linux is linus... if linux belongs to linus then it is his to do with it as he likes... as much as we all hate it, it is our fault for using something that is dpendent on someone else
the way that people are complaining here kinda reminds me of a stranger coming into your living room and demanding that you change the channel becasue he does not like it.
If you dont like the channel, then why are you in the room. You have no right to make demands when it is not your property, no matter how much you may be dependent on it
i must also ask, why we need it, i can understand in the case of preofessionals in certain industries and markets who need access to as much info as possible as quick as possible, hassle free.. in which case this is very good, however, for an ordinary user, what is the use? i dont see joe publuc using a 3G network right now.
What can you do that you can't currently do? Verizon may be targetting this towards certain markets that it would be profitable in rather than the general public, thus the lack of publicity
This is alll very nice, however, the hardware in the Pakm is still very inferiror to pocket pc and they do not have as capable sofware. I appears that MS is trying to pull a "IE" here destroy an established dominant product. I dont know how long palm can hold out on just a library of software alone.
In order to survive, Palm MUST do something about both the OS and the hardware capabilities.

the internet has been the beast way for me to communicate with my family and firnde spread through out he world. Infact it has alllowed me to maintain my associations even more. For me it has been one of the most radical changes in the last decade.
I can remember a time when getting any word from home (NEPAL) was a really big deal. Today, my mom and dad caht with me over IM and I can even have voice and video confrences.
While i may not meet them physically, i can do everything else.
I belive many others would have a similar story, and effect the "doomsday predications" are once more.. hype..
when i see that all of a sudden winamp is coming out for linux even though there is no need for it, i begin to wonder how long AOL has thought about this idea. Are they thinking of releasing winamp as a media player for linux? next things to look for is a Oscar AOL client for linux. If that comes out, then you know that some serious thinking and money is goin into it.
Personally, I am quite excited by the prospects, itmeasn moeny going to linux development at a time when the econony isnot so good.
Besides, if you dont like ewhat AOL is doing, just take the code and start another company. Unlike othe software, AOL will never own the code. That is a major distinction.
After seeing the successof OSX,
maybe AOL wants to take linux the way that apple took BSD, although the situations may be different between apple and AOL but the underlying idea would be the same, they have a huge (loyal?) userbase that they can control, and present something that is secure, easy to use but also very powerful... buying red hat may be just buying the developers and brand name... the most important thing.
The impications of this are huge.
If it provided OSC like features, i would fork over $100 anyday!
i think the comparison that people are making here is wrong and flawed, we cant compare teh populatity of a console by how many are avaliable, PS2 had a shoptage because it was quite popular and there was a greater demand for the console than were avaliable. You dont have to study econ to know what happens next.
Xbox may be the same thing.. We all know that nintendo made an effort to pervent the artificial shortage seen with the Ps2.
If we are really going to compare the popularity, we need to look at a larger time period, and also conside the number of units produced and then the sales duirng the time as well as the sales of games (so that we know ppl actuallu use the console)
there are more ways to abuse this than just businesses, if you remember the GW bush google trick from the election. I can just see how confusing it will be to get information like this.
This could seriously undermine the usefulness of google. If we get trash for searches, it will begin to resemble the other search engines.
Wt least we knew that when they ranked the pages, they new what was going on, opeing it up to the world basically means multiplying the GW bush trick.
while this is really good for the short term, it may backfire when companies ignore linux as a platform and just concentrate on windows. As everyone knows, Direct X is not the greatest thing and we ought to be steering people away from that rather than embracing it.
We run the risk of having linux games compatability and capabilities dictated by MS, and that is probably the last thing we want
while katz idea that blocking information may be a restriction of freedom, --and that may be true-- he fails to realise that content blocking on the internet is a valid concern for many people. What about the right of parents to allow theri childrn to use the net whthout the fear of having them exposed to some of the very adult material on the net? You say that parents should monitor theri children when they are on the net and that it is a parents responsibility. Blocking sites, is exactly that, it helps th partent decide what is right for their children, in a way, it grants them more freedom, freedom to raise theri children the way they want to nao not the way the rest of the world wants to.
to say this, nothing compares to a pocket PC... sad but true, as far as capabilities and bang for the buck go.. they blow everything away, an $150 Ipq from amazon will blow anything else in its range from anyoneelse away as far as the processor and memory is concerned..

i was the first to make KATZ my foe!!! yay first foe is mine!! a new industry is born...
you will now be my foe :) lol
downlaoding real pictures from mars would probably be faster that that site.
Use your own ISP! (Does not support AOL/Compuserve) typical MS hah hah
with the new Xinian Evolution Goner plugin. Of course, it is closed source and is not free
