    Thanks for the suggestions

My choices for cable are Roadrunner, or Earthlink which resells Time Warner cheaper than Roadrunner. I have Earthlink. I tried to get various Covad resellers, but Verizon would sabotage the DSL every time. I'd love to get Speakeasy, but unless they get their own C.O. I'm out of luck for DSL, and yes cable sucks bigtime.

My problem is that I need to host a lot of 50 - 300 meg photo files. I serve about one a week on average but I just don't know which one out of hundreds I'll need. Then there are about 6000 small and medium thumbnails that get a little bit of traffic.

I'd love to find a CoLo shelf space priced for someone like me who wants to put say 100Gig on line but expects fairly low traffic.

One problem though, since a TIFF file uses 4-byte integer file offsets to store image data, doesn't that mean a TIFF file cannot have more than 4 Gigabytes of raster data ?
Current high end 22 megapixel backs with 16 bit Bayer sensors would give a 440 meg file. I would conservatively guess that we will see 200 megapixel cameras with 4 Gigabyte raw files in 10 years. If this hit's the wall at 200 megapixels, I guess it will only be about 10 years until it's obsolete.

Well, a raw file is a lot more compact, and it does not do anything to change the artifacts and or "lossyness" of the sensor itself.
For instance the Canon cameras use a Bayer sensor. Imagine a checkerboard where half the sensors, are green , arranged in a checkerboard pattern, and the other half the sensors alternate between red and blue. The 12 bit value of each sensor site is encoded as the eight bit difference between it and the nearest same color site to its left. ( Amiga developers will find this vaguely familiar) The theoretical case of there being a full 12 bit difference between 2 sites never happens due to the optical properties of the camera and lens.

the IDE only drive. The Muvo used the IDE and CF compatible version
until Hitachi made them switch to the IDE only version, because it was
hurting sales of their stand alone product at much higher margins. The
Rio player uses a Seagate drive so the issues may be different.

BTW Creative has a new Muvo with the Seagate drive, that is easier to take apart.

MIAMI -- Some employees concerned about being forced to go to work have contacted Local 10 for answers.

Local 10 has received e-mails and phone calls from people who say they are being forced to leave their homes to go to work even though the area is under hurricane evacuation order.

Saturday, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle and Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas addressed those concerns.

Penelas reiterated that no one should be out on the highways and no employer should be forcing employees to go to work unless they are "essential" workers such as medical care workers or law enforcement officers.

Fernandez-Rundle told Local 10's Michael Putney that employers who ignore the county's request and won't do it "for good will and to protect others" should obey the request because they could face both civil and criminal liabilities if an employee is hurt due to being out in th

Nowadays between all the police wandering around with machine guns, the national guard loitering at the train stations and Macy's, and the vast numbers of gun toting undercover police from various city state and federal agencies the only thing that makes me nervous is that the machine gun totters will get surprised by the gun toting undercover police. ( surprised person with gun = bad thing IMHO ) A few years ago I was in a restaurant when a bunch of undercover and off duty cops from different agencys drew on each other when they did not recognize each other as cops. It sounds funny now but just a few weeks before a uniformed cop had killed an undercover cop who was making an arrest on the subway, without even shouting a warning.
