Throw in a wireless keyboard and you've got 90% of the average home's PC usage on the 360. Slide shows, movies, music, browsing, email, IM (w/voice) & games.

webTV before has been a one-trick pony. Now it'd look just about as good as your desktop, and be a natural extension of a box you'll be using anyway.

Though I think they'd be remiss if they didn't deliver a neXtBox+PVR in the $500 range.

And if they get Live right, everyone with a wireless keyboard is going to wonder why they spend so much on computers when something like this + HD monitor is good enough for 90% of their computer use. (browsing/mail/chat/games)

Vivendi is making the same mistake EA made: too many players per server. They've loosened the server caps and dropped their unpopular queues - and now their most popular servers are buckling.

With the 'shard' design, where users per server is capped and they throw more servers at problems - there's very little justification for such overload.

Too many people are forgetting that Dark Age of Camelot has had very very very very few stability problems. In comparison to the rest of the genre - they're downtime's infinitesimal.

Every time a major publisher completely screws up their launch, or fails to deliver a stable product, I give one more proverbial gold star to Mythic. They've proven that it can be done; that there is no reason that we can not demand that level of service.

I've moved on since DAoC, and WoW is my current poison -- and a tasty one at that -- but this genre needs to demand better.

Killing hundreds of blue foozles just to advance to the point where you can kill hundreds of red foozles is not some golden game design. You know what the core difference is between an RPG and a FPS is? Nothing. They're not mutually exclusive.

An RPG is just a game with a strong story context. Look at Thief, System Shock, Deus Ex, or GTA even. They're RPGs. There's just no level treadmill, and the combat resolution in each game is different from the D&D standard. But there's a strong story, character development, and immersion.

There's nothing wrong with the standard game designs per se. They're just wrong for some people. And when those people wish aloud for something different, it isn't any sort of threat to the established standard. No-one has to take your games away to make something new. So why do you care if they want something different; even if, in your opinion, it isn't an RPG or MMORPG that they want?
