I admit I didn't stick to the LTS releases, but Linux changes so fast you end up with an even worse experience if you do use only the LTS anyway.

This might be a mistake on your side - AFAIK the Ubuntu team plus their beta-testers are mostly focused on upgrades from one previous version, PLUS previous LTS version of Ubuntu. So upgrades between LTS versions are usually well tested and discrepancies documented, if not solved before release.

So to get out of the cycle, just wait for next LTS version expected in April 2010, and then wait for another LTS version... unless they change their release process in the meantime :-)

In the first link, they're buying back cars that are beyond warranty, partly because trying to make up for bad paint job in American factory. Pure PR job to improve their image.

In the second link, they have problems notifying customers - nothing special that other manufacturers couldn't possibly experience (how can anyone be sure of not having been missed in some other recall?)

In the third link, the data is only for 2008, method is unclear (probably total number of sold units of recalled models) and the site seems to be Chrysler-centric. I would like to see merged data for last 5 or 10 years to see something interesting.

Well, you're right, especially on Amazon.co.uk - that's one of the shiny examples.

But some (usually non-EU-based) companies still don't recognize new EU countries. For example, ThinkGeek only added my home country (new EU-member) to their shipping destinations during last year, despite of the fact that neighboring countries (also new-EU members) were present there for many years before. I've been nagging them for years...

    Unobtainable.. exactly.

Lots of distributors still follow the DVD model, where world is divided into many boxes. In some parts, you cannot buy software X or movie Y at all. Somewhere, you're obliged to use PayPal, because they're afraid that your VISA credit card is different from US equivalent (WAKE UP!).

Some companies just don't see their customers outside of US, Canada, UK, and maybe France or Germany - they don't offer shipping outside selected countries. This is a big source of frustration for big part of EU, where there customers willing to pay for stuff... only to find out they must take other means to get it.

  24. Re:Objection to .eu TLD on EU Ministers Approve ".eu" Top-Level Domain · · Score: 1

You are mostly right about EU not being a country at all. It's only a union of independent countries. But those states are willing to create tight form of co-operation. According to Schengen declaration, you can drive across EU without being stopped at any border, except the outermost one (between EU member and another country). There is free trade (with some exceptions, too). And, not to forget, currency union.

I think EU is moving towards creating "a state of states" with political and economical power. Think about elections in Austria a bit - EU had pushed down the leader of FPO by political and economical attacks to whole Austria. But Austria isn't the topic now.

That's why I think the .eu domain would be good for companies operating across whole Europe (Union).

BTW. What about "Russia"? It isn't one state, it's group of states having one president and a cross-republic parliament... Those states have their own domains. Russia (the most-known state of them) has .ru. The whole group had .su domain, now the .su-NIC is .ru-NIC. .ru is domain available for every state in Russia (the group of states) and another states have their own (.tj, .tm) plus .ru. Strange, isn't it?
