Many aquatic animals do not sleep in the same way that we do. Dolphins have the ability to shut off parts of their brain when they're not using them, although for what reason I'm not entirely sure.
If you've ever read the manual of a Polaroid camera, they always recommend you don't shake the photo while it is developing. I don't entirely know why people do...
Beware of buying GSM phones on eBay. A significant proportion of them are stolen. Here in the UK, when a phone is reported stolen, its IMEI number (a serial number unique to each handset - you can display it by typing *#06# on any GSM phone) is blacklisted on all the UK networks. Phone thieves circumvent this problem by selling it abroad on eBay, as the blacklists are not shared outside the UK.
The computer designed to compute the question (The Earth) was corrupted by the introduction of Arthur Dent, Zaphod, and the B-arc, thus corrupting the calculation.
Arthur's brain contained the computed question, since he was alive just before the Earth was destroyed, but because of the corruption, the question was wrong.
The @ is used for web site authentication. Although it is highly insecure, you can login to a web site that requires auth by using the following format URL:
http://username:password@hostname.com/
So, for example http://microsoft.com@slashdot.org/ really means "login to slashdot.org using the username microsoft.com".
The hard disk only spins briefly so fill the 32MB cache. (Or is it 64? Not sure.) After that, music plays from the cache. Even so, I've dropped my iPod while the HD was spinning, and after a brief heart attack, discovered it was still running fine.
Isn't it more likely that Google are simply trying to index the general topic of each IRC channel, rather than the specific content? For example, a search for "linux" on "Google IRC" might return #opensource as well as #linux. (Disclaimer: No idea if #opensource actually exists.)
Sadly, Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth for CD-quality audio unless you compress it fairly heavily. It's more than adequate for telephone-quality audio, that's what it was designed for (amoungst other things), but nothing beyond that.
You can read a (very favourable) review of Ability Office here. In their monthly "best buys" guide, they actually rated it above Microsoft Office 2002.
The BBC did a similar thing in 1992, but on TV. They broadcast a fake "live" documentary called Ghostwatch, which was supposed to be an hour-long live show partially presented from "The most haunted house in Britain" (A very ordinary house in a housing estate), and partially from a studio with interviews and phone-ins, etc.
The house was supposedly haunted by a ghost called "Pipes", so called because it rattled the pipes a lot, and the show starts off exactly the way you'd expect a live documentary about a ghost to happen - nothing happens. But gradually more and more disturbing things happen, until one of the presenters is "killed' by the ghost, and many others end up posessed.
The BBC used well-known presenters from other BBC "factual" type shows, and millions of people around the country completely failed to realise the show was fiction. There was uproar. Thousands of people complained, and the show was banned from being repeated, ever.
With the possible exception of "Radio 1", the BBC produces some of the finest radio on the planet, and anyone in the world can stream it over the net. And yes, every single station is blissfully advert-free.
Ownership and usage are very different things. I, for example, own a frying pan. It is illegal for me to take my frying pan and smack you in the head with it.
This doesn't, however, mean I don't own my frying pan.
WiMP doesn't play MP3 streams?
It does.

My CPU can do that too...
It might be at the top of the list, but Windows XP accounts for 42% of users.
> Ever looked at the price of a mac?
Have you?
G4 eMac with 17" monitor: $799
G4 iBook: $1099
And you can even buy the fastest personal computer in the world for $2999.
For what you get, Macs are not expensive.

At night, when there is no sunlight falling on the solar cells, the lander goes to "sleep" to conserve power.
Five years ago the standard format for iPod was MP3 at 160k. Now it's AAC at 128k.
Same quality, smaller size, more songs.
Just like the T-shirt says
When there is enough demand. Currently, Linux geeks are pretty much the only people who have even heard of Vorbis.
That's still before Longhorn. :P
Meh - isn't that kinda pointless? If you're going to go to the trouble of ordering a special CD-R, why not just order the actual soundtrack CD?
In the UK, and possibly other countries, duct tape is sold under the brand name "Duck".

Actually, at Earth's distance from the Sun, the temperature of space is around 280K, or 7C
