That is very interesting, but I can think of another factor.
When I buy a $950 - $1000 computer, I expect that I will get around 3-5 years of use out of it. So the actual increased price is about $10 - $15 per year.
I will likely buy several pieces of software during this time, so the savings on them will add up much quicker.
Presumably though, there was a severance package, which would be quite a bit heftier than a bonus check. Although they are now stuck with the burden of finding another job, they get to spend the holidays with their families.
When I am allowed to choose my own question and answer, I obfuscate it.
For example, a question like "Can oxen lick other rodents?" would be asking for a color: "Can Oxen Lick Other Rodents?"
And the answer would be something like "y3110w".
For the predetermined questions, it is usually easy to come up with answers you can remember but don't really relate to the question being asked as well.
In my experience, installing software from the above companies usually has a checkbox to determine if you want to install a plug in (admittedly and annoyingly checked by default).
But off the top of my head, Skype does not give you and option to leave out the plug in. These practices are very frustrating indeed.
It does seem that way, but I think it's an optical illusion. Probably because the screen of the phone stands out so much more than the area around the screen.
I took my iPhone out to check how it looked and it was about the same proportion. (My hands are about 7" from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.)
But why are they changing something that I am used to?! I don't care if it's faster or easier, I just want it to stay the same!
Sarcasm aside, I think instant search is great. In fact I started using ALT+HOME (set to google) to do queries instead of the usual CTRL+K or CTRL+L to search from the address bar which doesn't have instant.
And checking out the preview so far seems really cool. You don't want these features? Disable instant search, don't click on the magnifying glass. Simple, right?
I don't think we'll ever have completely automated cars. Even if they reduced accidents by 80%.
People will see a big difference between getting in an accident by human error or by a malfunctioning computer.
The fact that it's completely up to the computer will make it feel like playing a slot machine. Sure there are times when human error by someone else is completely out of your control, but I think people will perceive it differently.
If I want to set up an OSX VM, do I need to buy this? It says "Upgrade from Mac OS X Leopard with Snow Leopard" on that page, but I can't seem to find anything that says it's the full version.
I agree that a person should be able to do whatever they want with the software they purchase. That would only apply if they did it offline though. By cheating the system to get achievements, they are corrupting* Blizzard's servers and that's where it gets into a gray area.
* I feel that is too strong of a word to use, but the idea I'm going for is that the cheaters are making Blizzard's servers contain incorrect information.
Yep, check out this.

I was planning on posting this while reading the GP's comment.
My relatives jokingly pronounce it Tar-jay, (frech-like) to make it sound more chic.
Unbiased != advanced reading level
So this could actually be used to show why FOX viewers are more misinformed.

At least that's the company's view of it right?
Wow, slashdot is still around? Is that where the crazy haters are coming from?

I'm currently looking into which android phone to buy and found this to be amazing for comparing them.
Yeah, nine chances should be enough for anyone.

I just don't have the patients to see if the thing will recover in half an hour or so
...you should probably have your medical license revoked.
(Sorry, couldn't help it.)

Copy/paste is now working for me in Chrome.
Yeah, but condoms feel weird .

That's funny and depressing at the same time.

You mean like the impact with the concrete barrier that he didn't notice?
And you don't think those people get entertainment from bragging?

The advantage of having /. store bookmarks is that you could access it from any computer.
I imagine if they blocked it, people would do it even more. A PDF would be sent to the admin every time!
