    Has anyone thought of doing a Tombstones like service did for MAME roms (and now freemameroms does) for the quasi-ripped LD "original" version of the trilogy put to DVD?

    Like create a network of people willing to copy this DVD and send it to you for the price of postage/media (or you send them SASE postage/media)...

    I'm trying to figure out how to get the original trilogy in some sort of decent format without buying a LD player (I'll buy the LD's on ebay, but don't want to invest in player)

    The bit torrent see out there of the rips are compressed and I'd rather have somethign a little less lossy than SVCD quality.

    Is it possible that you are actually seeing the image clearly on the PC monitor, but it actually just looks "better" on the lower image quality TV screen?

    A lot of console game developers displays/gui's/textures are made to be optimally viewed on a TV (i.e. taking into account the interlacing in fact taking advantage of the blurring)

    yeah, but you kinda get used to having it there as a backup, like your songs would *always* be there on mp3.com, no need to keep them on your drive (need to make room for paris hilton full you know!)

    I for one had to do a mad scramble to download and archive all my stuff off of mp3.com

    I also got screwed out of like 20 bucks from them which I email bickered with them for 2 years over (on principle). Both mp3.com and cnet get two thumbs down, booing AND hissing.

    I wouldn't bother ripping the special DVD widescreen edition of "ishtar", ditto for "eye of the beholder" and "Battlefield Earth" that'll save you a few gigs =P

    myHTPC does that... I guess the trick is to find the right PC card to ouptut to the plasma... Would that need to be upscaled? I wonder if that upscaling could be done on the fly.

    *Shrug* good luck... although if you have an extra terrabyte raid laying around and a plasma tv, you probably can afford whatever solutions are out there to solve this problem without cobbling something together yourself (but that's half the fun!)

    Not that I personally care if megamillion dollar rapper X is sueing large company Y about permission of use.

    But, aren't they allowed to use small snippets of music in order to *gasp* sell music? Example: the lousey 30 second clips found on most online CD stores... they don't clear each one of those do they?! Granted, I imagine before a commercial airs they usually sort this out, but I gotta think there was some legalese somewhere in whatever contract itunes has with 8mile publishing to allow for this type of use (otherwise sack the legal department)

    I don't think something with a 5.6 inch screen would fit vary comfortably in most anyones hand.

    well not that it's relevant to this device specifically... but, you can playback MPEG2 encoded video files on slow CPU hardware *if* you have a specialized chip to do the heavy lifting of decoding. My Tivo has what, a 33mhz chip in it, but it has a specialized MPEG2 decoder so you aren't decoding in software using up precious CPU cycles (well as many)
