A race with radio must be no more than a couple of centuries behind us, but could be thousands or millions of years ahead of us. Think about it.
Statements like that just show an ignorance of statistics. The odds of there being aliens more advanced than us is the same as there being aliens that are less advanced than us. Not to mention that you are using human intelligence as the metric for all intelligence. It is also just as likely that a civilization would have radio technology far better than our own, but would be horribly behind in other areas.
Hint: only aliens with radios are under consideration.
Having radios doesn't mean they are more advanced than us. We've had radios for a long long time.. What we are doing in regards to space exploration now could have been easily accomplished 20-30 years ago had space exploration been as big of a concern as say military weapons development.
Look at it another way.. Had we received transmissions from aliens 50 years ago, we probably could have replied, and I'm sure you'd agree that we are somewhat more advanced now than 50 years ago.
If you are using standard email (ie: pop3/imap/smtp) you should allow people to use any standard client they want. Install some webmail for people on the go and allow people to use whatever they want on their desktop. If they run windows, encourage them to use OL or OLE and if they run mac have them use entourage or the mozilla one.
If you are a mostly windows shop its dumb to force people to use the mozilla one since its bloated and slow in windows with OE runs great and the learning curve is less since thats what they are probably using at home.
This is useful because anyone who can hear our signals and generate signals for us to hear in return is almost certainly far more advanced than we are.
There is no proof of that. The whole hoping aliens are smarter than us is a bad assumption. If it took so long for life to evolve here, it would probably take just as long if not longer in other conditions.
These self contained games that plug directly into the tv tend to not sell well at all. It might be different in japan, but in the us, these kinds of things are really only bought by people who don't have and can't afford a regular game system. They have deer hunting and fishing games like this at Target all the time. The display models are usually broken after a couple of days and then people lose interest.
Tycho thinks that if 10 people would pay $1, then 1 person would pay $10. But it's not true in general, and he doesn't tell us why he thinks it's true for webcomics.
That is true in the case of Penny Arcade though, they have extra content that you have to donate money via paypal to see. They don't care how much you donate, any amount is good enough to see the extra stuff for a month.. Surely some people send $1 and others send $10.. they make quite a bit of money this way so it obviously works.
Its all fine and good for the EU to expect companies in the EU to collect VAT for stuff, but expecting American and other non-EU countries to collect taxes for them is ignorant. A few companies need to tell the EU to buzz off.. I seriously doubt they could extradite for such a thing.
The only thing holding me back from playing mtg:online is all of these real mtg cards I have. If they would make it so real cards came with a cd that gave you online cards or something I might be interested, but I'm not going to rebuy all of my cards just to play online. Thats like buying mp3's to replace your cd's.
I don't know what Java Plugin you're using, but Applets already run all in the same JVM for all Browsers and JVMs I know.
You are wrong, why is it that I have one java plugin icon on my taskbar for the little webpage that has my dsl router information and another open anytime I'm on a webpage that has a java applet. If sun's java plugin and IE don't allow for multiple applets using one jvm, I fail to see how all browsers and jvm's do it.
ATI has never ever been good about providing drivers for their products, they don't even provide new drivers for their existing lines when new versions of windows come out. They just string people along with the promises of new drivers that never materialize or if they do, they never get past beta because they don't work well. ATI would rather you buy a new card than just use what you have so they don't bother to make newer drivers. Their linux support is abysmal and their windows support isn't much better. Learn your lesson and stop supporting ATI until they change their act.
Whats the normal process for 'creating' hydrogen? I guess I assumed they just mixed a couple of chemicals together and trapped it in balloons like we did in chem class in highschool.
Yeah, I thought that was the case as well. Doesn't Apple have the only Java implementation that doesn't spawn a new VM for each new app? I can't remember what the terminology for it was.
I wish sun would jump on that bandwagon, I'm sick of a new 30 meg vm opening everytime i visit a webpage with a java applet. You'd think a virtual machine, much like a regular machine, could handle more than one program at a time.
No, the cd is tangible. Based on your argument, everytime you borrowed a cd from someone you'd be stealing because you didn't just buy it yourself.
Let's assume that you download "Back That Thing Up" by Master P off Kaazaa. However, you do not own nor have you ever owned the album in which this song was originally distributed (I.E. you never purchased it). You just stole something.
Let's assume I hear "Back That Thing Up" by Master P on the radio and hit the record button my tape deck. However, I never own, nor have I ever owned the album in which this song was originally distributed (I.E. I never purchased it). I just stole something? I think not. And the courts agree with me.. why should it be different in the scenario you've described?
phpnuke is gpl.. the gpl states that you can't put extra requirements in. the people who make phpnuke need to stop releasing it as gpl or they can't enforce the don't delete the copyright thing.
Well you see, there is not such legal thing as a copyleft.. its a term used to describe a copyright in which the author gives up some of the legal protections granted by law. If at the bottom it had said "This article copyleft 2003" or something in that vain, that would have had no legal standing at all.
you are way off base there.. he basically mini-gpl'd the article.. it's saying you can copy the whole thing as long as you keep the permission to copy the whole thing attached to it..

Blizzard "is widely seen in the games industry as one of the most attractive assets of VU Games,
Not anymore.
We must endeavor to eradicate time wasting from existence, in order to concentrate on important things. Like insulting people on the internet.

put conduit in the walls instead of just running wires, that way later you can change the wires for the next technology that comes along.
why dont you just explain how you make the cart, then release the rom?
I'd like to see what they guys could do with palm hardware or a gameboy..
Who do they think they are, Cobra?
More like the Decepticons.

Well with articles like that it wouldn't really be relevant to have people adding their own contributions and redistributing it..
Well you see, there is not such legal thing as a copyleft.. its a term used to describe a copyright in which the author gives up some of the legal protections granted by law. well its kind of hard to put a gpl style license on a document and have it only take up a line or two at the bottom..
