thats true.. while trying to install solaris x86, the installer crashed and decided to take my partition tables with it.. messed my computer up so bad I've never felt compelled to install solaris on x86 hardware again..
thats a good point.. i once got a year or so worth of magazines from a computer game company because the decided to start sending them without us ordering.
i think mlantern.com should sue them for trying to diffuse their copyright or whatever and confuse their customers.. if it were me, i wouldn't want my companies good name associated with an evil gov't plot..
You are wrong.. consider how many computers dell, gateway, hp, et al. ship compared to how many people bother with anything other than usps for packages.
I dont know all of the specifics, but by reading through the supporting materials listed by Christoph Pfisterer in his resignation, it seems to me that he has at many points actively engaged in flaming people on the various support boards for their ignorance.. sure its not all him, but he's doing just as much flaming as any of the people he's complaining about..
This is usually because the sound doesn't work or the game won't start because they can't figure out how to make the sound work or the video work because modern os's wont let programs talk directly to the hardware..
this is also available on the windows 2000 resource cd that you get when you actually buy the OS from what people have told me.. so you dont actually need service pack 2 to get it.. also on my machine I never had to do any weird registry keys.. it just started showing up after keeping current on the win2k updates from windows update..
That makes no sense, and if anything if everyone leeched off of news servers (which I hope not because that would mean they'd got shut down pronto fast) it would SAVE bandwith because you'd have a centralized file that could be downloaded by many, from the ISP straight to your DSL line, not back and forth between users clogging up the ISP's bandwith anymore. Am the only one who read all of the "Gnutella can't scale" articles?
you're not the only one.. my school just put on some new router rules that managed to break most of the p2p file sharing clients and our useable bandwidth increased about 10x from what we had before.. turns out morpheus likes to make fast connections into supernodes or something so everyone on the campus connection got instant supernode status and our bandwidth usage about killed our isp..
They could probably get sued in the US too since they are collecting information about children under 16 years of age.. no to mention the programs they bundle the spyware with are facilitating the spread of illegal software and music.
just because gpl'd stuff wants to be free yada yada, doesn't mean that copyrighted stuff in general wants to be free.. if you are going to use p2p warez programs, don't bitch when they bite you in the ass.
my friend gets similar service in the US for $35 a month and gets text messaging and some web crap free too..

norway is also a small enough country that the "rural" areas aren't nearly as far away from cities as the rural areas in the US...
Not to mention that you can get high speed internet anywhere in the US.. you just have to be willing to pay for a satelite.
which law are you referring to anyway? i've never actually heard of this being the law, and i've lived in the US for quite some time..

yeh.. it was meant to be funny.. apparently /. just isn't the place for humour.. oh well..
i would hate to be the person who just found out from reading /. that they may be losing their broadband service very soon.. heh
obviously with google around, the whole security through obscurity thing just isn't an option anymore.
