To be fair, Microserfs was disapointingly light on MS-related dirt and what MS is actually like to work for. Microserfs mostly concerned itself with the startup the main characters left to join.
I think part of the problem is that historically, Americans don't take up new 'gimmicky' technology as fast as Europe, Japan and Australia. While it's hardly commonplace, Bluetooth is steadily catching on in Australia. Bluetooth is common on next-gen phones like the t610 and late-model Nokias, It's on PDAs, and PC dongles are becoming more affordable and widely available. I only recently got a t610 so I speak from experience:) I sync it with Evolution. You don't know how useful Bluetooth is until you use it for yourself.
I'm not going to argue the legality of downloading music, I think most of us agree that by the letter of the law it's wrong. *However* the punishment has to fit the crime, and the reasonable thing for the RIAA to do would have been to send a big nasty cease-and-desist warning letter, *then* release the landsharks if they do not comply. That would be reasonable no matter the age of the 'perp'. But no, it's about money and scapegoating, not IP.
If M$ got their heads out of their asses it would actually be a brilliant idea, for them, Joe Sixpack, and thre industry in general. But they know the code is probably crap, heheh.
Awwwww... my compassion-o-meter isn't budging. Even people without children have obligations, and demands on their time that they have no control over. Nothing against kids, but you made a choice, *you* stop whining.
Yeah... would be nice... But the ACCC doesn't necessarily have the teeth to deal with even the domain scammers. We've had several rounds of misleading letters since then, often repeatedly by the same firm under a different name.:(
And I agree with the psuedo-diagnosis on RMS. But then again I got that vibe from Linus's autobiography too:). I consider those with these traits or syndromes who are doing well in their spheres as both fortunate and gifted. I have close family who are *much* more afflicted, but I'm not really on the spectrum myself (except as a geek and introvert).
Actually the finite lifespan of your battery might make you upgrade:) I haven't upgraded my iiic either but that little bit of planned obsolescence will do it eventually....
And if you're from dotau, you won't have to change your title or business cards when you get laid off and you have to 'freelance' in The Oldest Profession to eat.
Well... that's a good point, but Google could be providing a service in keeping MSN honest. If the same search engine query performed on your competitor (in fact, especially if that competitor is so widely used the name has become generic) returns more, or more 'unbiased' hits, it's going to look like censorship. Without Google MS wouldn't have the same incentive.
Is it possible the MP3 story is a cover for an ongoing investigation into child pr0n ? Perhaps that's what the AFP are actually after but they don't want to tip off the crims, they go to ground very quickly. There was that story on the news in Australia last night about concern for the whereabouts of a child depicted in a porn photo, those photos don't get out unless someone gets busted. These raids could be a result of that. Just a thought.
Yes but you can be casual and well-dressed at the same time, they're hardly mutually exclusive. Is the problem that the concept of 'well-dressed' for men isn't flexible enough to include things other than 'wear a suit'? I know that good jeans, a nice shirt and dressy boots would fit the definition for me. Women have a bit more flexibility in that department I guess.
A guy would get the same criticism.

Hopefully. IR line-of-sight is just annoying.

You're a geek, right?
Webcam. Webserver. Connect the dots.
PS Feel free to tell them about it later after you pocket your earnings. Via emailed URL. That should warm your heart for a long time.
And me without my mod points ;p
Let's not forget that the 12 year old busted for the first time shoplifting would get off with a warning. That's also reasonable in this case.

Love, QOS.

The Linux version is up, but there are some communication problems with Windows-only clients.
someone gets ventilated by an overzealous security guard.
I mean most phones are small, and hard to distinguish as phones at long range.
One part of me says 'cool, Doom/Cyberpunk LARP!'
The other part says 'Don't try this in a public place, especially not one in a metropolitan area subject to constant, vague terrorism threats.'

Sure. Just read Slashdot with a threshold of 1. You won't hear a peep out of the AC's.
*Boom - tish*

Hmmm do I want to play the DVD, or a nice game of chess?

And clearly lacking anything like your generous share of humility.
Hell yes. When you're too cheap or too dodgey to get a .com.au , promote your business with a .au.com .
Though I can see the appeal of registering a subdomain of the above, then using it for email. Nice idiot filter.

There's your problem, buddy! What's this brown hiking boots nonsense! You have to color co-ordinate! Next conference, those boots better be black too.
