Moving the rocks, to build a pyramid, with very precise mathematical calculations of trapped energy, angles of sunshine(where the sun shines in to the big pyramid through a trap door once a year), with the very complex tunnels in the pyramid that with all the exploration technology we have in this millennium cannot discover.. and he thinks he is a pharaoh cause he can move a rock.... go get your self a life.
and only if the ppl at your work know what they are doing. I used to work in a company where some employess saw the "Download the magical executable and see her ride",and they would (the employees i am talking about are programmers actually, or so called, i am sad to say). So it might be good for you, or your boss, who know what your are doing, but dont assume every one is as smart my pal. God created stupidty to haunt us.... FOREVER..:)
really, i mean if you are a unix/linux admin, then Windows to you should be very clear and straight forward. A few testing(i am sure you can spare the time and hardware, even at work, temporarirly)...The dialogs in Windows are self explanatory...
but just in case you get stuck, the best resource is the MSDN library..
Ok, i worked as a senior Technical Support, i had a team of 4 engineers, all well well trained and stuff.. I was well paid....I supported very complex multiple platform/database client server and web applications (i.e knowledge scope of our employees was quite amusing)...thats one part of the story
A friend of mine, was a freelancer support geek, he supported ppl with no idea of computers , install windows here, reconfigure a driver there, fix the Internet connection over here, stuff like that...
AND HE MADE TWICE AS MUCH MONEY AS I DID....
Move your guns away from my face,i am not complaining here, my point here, is that it is irrelevant...you can be doing really complex things in a very large firm and another guy with half the work load you have gets paid twice as much just because of his connections and ofcorse (his spare time being unemployed)..
I have tried kylix, and its no good.. it crashes, does not support new kernels, buggy.. sorry to say this. I am a great borland fan, i have used delphi and C Builder for as long as i can remeber, when kylix came out i was jumping around in joy... but i was really disappointed.
over RH9, the slownes in RH 9 was very noticable, besides they removed lilo(dunno why), i cannot see a single reason to upgrade from 8 to anything else unless its a totally new kernel.
have you ever setup a server. Its the same process. Buy a machine from IBM, and it will give you a Boot CD, and thats the only way you can setup your server cause it has all the driver. But you can always setup the machine up your own way, decided you have the necessary deivers(from the net or something).. In some cases i even had to extract the drivers from the vendor CD's(dont know if tis even illegal or not) but it doesnt always work..it depends..
Bottom line
Thats the way it has been a long time ago.. welcome to the computer field.
