I like using the Arduin system and scenario packs, often just because the traps, spells, and artifacts were so weird, and the pre-packaged adventures are sure to be something that most players had not encountered before. [Currently avaliable via Emperor's Choice, and worth every penny]
Examples of spells:
Murhalla's Spell of the Arrows of Ethereal Anguish
The High Hallowyn's Conjuration of the Aura of Prismatic Protection
Yalthuu's Call of the Flames of Faerie
Charnalla's Call of the Mystik Winds of the Moon
I happen to like this one:
Shalamord's Ritual of the Call of the Wild Hunt
This extremely dangerous ritual requires 13 minutes of time and forty-seven (47) mana points to complete. What it does is to open a "portal into Limbo" so that the terror known as "The Wild Hunt" can pass through into this plane to ride the winds from
dusk till dawn.
What The Wild Hunt actually is will vary from Multiverse to Multiverse, but it is usually a pack of spectral hounds leading some 13 riders (mounted on everything from Hell Horses to Dragons) and led by a Demi-God or Deity. In Arduin this hunt has been led variously by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, "Death"
himself and even the "Green Man" of Celtic mythology.
It will usually always be different each time, except for one hard cold fact: All whom they choose to hunt will be pursued relentlessly unto irrevocable death. Who they choose to hunt and why has always been a mystery (only the GM decides). Those in the path of The Wild Hunt may also be hurt or killed if they don't get out of the way in time. All non-sentient creatures, regardless of size or power will automatically flee in terror before it. Stampede!! The priest who opens this portal (which may only be once per solstice or equinox) has absolutely no control over what happens after he has done so. He may end up as the quarry (and they usually choose just one, harrying him the whole night through in a game of "foxes and hounds"). For obvious reasons this ritual is banned by most religious organizations. This terrible ritual needs but 6 weeks of study to properly learn, but beware its usage!
Of Course, your milage may vary. Lots of fun for the party who does not display the proper amount of caution. I usually let the victim have a little bit of a head start. It's even more fun when the pantheon is unknown to the players.
'Who shall we hunt tonight, m'lord?' --- I choose THIS one!
I also routinely include in my games a set of scrolls which contain spells that non magicians can use, usually over the course of days, if not weeks. Of course, it depends on if they can read, pronouncing the the magic words of power correctly, etc. Most of the time nothing happens, due to too many errors. But every once in a while some does happen. No guarantee that the spell was for what you thought is was for. (Imagine trying to cast a transcription of a Chinese magic spell, knowing only English.) Enough problems to convince amateurs to leave such matters to real professionals.

Pure Oregano oil has some interesting properties. Initial research looks promising, with much more to be done. And like anything else, to get large quantities of the essential ingredients directly from the herb requires that you eat a pound or two of the stuff consistantly on a daily basis.
Usually what you see sold in places like vitamin shops etc is a concentrated oil diluted with olive oil. Typically, you will get a 1 or 2 percent solution. And it is relatively high priced.
That said, you can order reasonable concentrations online if you google around for a while. Note that these are usually marked for aromatic use only, as the concentration is regarded as too intense for actual internal consumption.
There is enough spread that someone could find a profit margin in there someplace.
Does something have to be done to break the hold of sweatshop like conditions, even if the pay is "reasonable"?
I think back the the arguments made back in the beginning of the 20th century, and wonder how that experience would apply here.
Note that at that time, a major dis-incentive to unionizing was that there always another body out there willing to work under those horrid conditions. But reform happened over time.
Many of my fellow Christians are more then willing to give up their rights/liberties because they _think_ it will make them more "safe". They think that only "bad" people would want privacy and not want "big brother" to know your every move.
And of course, they all know that they are the only truly good people out there. This comes with a certain naive child-like trust of certain government officials that really should be reserved for certain religious figures found in rather thick traditional texts.
HR 3752, which provided important regulatory support for a new commercial space flight industry, has widely been reported dead in the last day or two, and it almost was. It has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives as HR 5382, it was debated today, and it should be up for a vote by the full House sometime in tonight's extended session - possibly as early as 8 pm EST, possibly well into the small hours of tomorrow morning.
For more info on the history and content of HR 3752, see http://www.space-access.org/updates/sau105.htm. HR 5382 is the latest hard-fought compromise version of HR 3752 that everyone interested had finally agreed on. The current problem is largely a matter of a few who hadn't been following the issue closely not understanding why certain features of the bill are necessary for the healthy birth of the new industry. A letter from the head of the House Science Committee summarizing the issues follows:
Dear Colleague:
A few minutes ago you received a letter from congressman Oberstar about H.R. 5382 which will be before the house shortly. Mr. Oberstar's objection to the bill is well intentioned but reflects fundamental misunderstandings about the bill. Here are some facts:
The house passed earlier this year by a vote of 402 to 1 and earlier version of this bill (HR 3752) that gave the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) less regulatory authority over commercial human space flights than does the bill before us today.
The Science Committee which has primary jurisdiction over this bill which was given the sole initial referral had several hearings on the bill and has talked about it frequently with the press, engendering more public discussion.
This bill concerns the commercial space flight industry, an industry that is now of interest only to entrepreneurs and daredevils and should not be regulated as if it were a commercial airline acting as common carrier, which is basically what Mr. Oberstar is advocating.
The bill does give FAA unlimited authority to regulate these new rockets to ensure that they do not harm anyone on the ground and to ensure that the industry is learning from any failures. The bill also gives FAA additional authority after 8 years by which time the industry should be less experimental.
The Oberstar approach would be the equivalent of not letting the Wright Brothers test their ideas without first convincing federal officials that nothing could go wrong.
Without this Bill the FAA will continue to license private space flights without adequate authority to protect either the safety of the public or the finances of the government.
Please support HR 5382, just as you voted for the initial version in March. Today's bill is an equivalent of a conference report as it reflects bipartisan negotiations with the Senate.
Sincerely,
SHERWOOD BOEHLERT

See this discussion on the Mediterranean Salt layer, and the filling of the great Nile River Canyon with it's present silt and sediment:
http://www.skepticfiles.org/evolut/desertme.htm
[Chumakov's] research had included the study of 15 holes drilled into the bottom of the Nile River just south of the Aswan High Dam.... Soviet engineers were helping build the new dam, and the holes were sunk to determine the depths to bedrock and the nature of the sediment on top of it. This revealed that under the relatively flat bottom of the present river the bedrock forms a canyon some 290 meters deep, now filled with sediment. The lowest part is a narrow gorge with almost vertical walls. Most remarkable, Chumakov found, is the nature of the sediment in the bottom 150 meters of this canyon. It proved to be filled with oceanic fossils of the Pliocene.
In other words this canyon 1200 kilometers (750 miles) up the Nile, was once flooded by a sudden incursion of the sea some 5.5 million years ago. The most likely explanation, Chumakov believed, was that the canyon was carved when the Nile flowed into a Mediterranean Sea 1000 to 1500 meters lower than today. Then rapid filling of the sea sent salt water up the canyon, and only when the latter silted up higher than the existing sea level did the accumulating fossils change to fresh water forms. [Walter Sullivan, _Continents In Motion_, pp. 166-167, American Institute of Physics, New York, 1991.]
In the Nile Delta, boreholes more than 300 meters deep were not able to reach the bottom of the old Nile canyon. Chumakov estimated that the depth of the incision there might reach 1,500 meters, and he visualized a deeply buried estuary under the sands and silts of the modern Nile Delta. Chumakov was right; a narrow 2,500-meter-deep canyon under Cairo was recently discovered during geophysical explorations for petroleum in Egypt.
Note that 2,500 meters is 8,200 feet. This is much deeper than Hell's Canyon of Idaho and Oregon, the deepest in the world today. If the Med flooded 10,000 years ago, the Canyon would not have silted up yet.

Seeing as there is a documented sea level rise that took place at the end of the last Ice Age Glacial Period that was a couple hundred feet anyhow, it is likley that there are several sites that had some city building going on that are now below the surface of the sea. In some cases, the land extended out dozens of miles beyound the current shoreline.
And the Sahara was much more of a grassland with trees area, with plenty of people leaving rock drawings behind. So nomads with cities on the now submerged coastline is plausible as well.
1) He attributes the flooding of the site to the biblical flood
2) The site is located 1600 meters (about 1 mile) below the surface.
3) The biblical flood he attributes to/identifies as the Flooding of the Med when the Atlantic broke through the mountain wall at Gibraltar. Geology indicates that while such an event did take place, it was 6 million years ago, not at the end of the Ice Age.
Therefore, it is more likley that the site is an old flooded out UFO base from the time period of the flood out, in my opinion. It would have been logical to have such bases in the Med basin, as there would have been spectacular salt flats in bottom of the Med basin, making an easy to find landmark from space, and a useful landing strip. Of course, any structures there have been flooded out very long ago.
This actually makes it much harder to get things done.
Looks like they're pulling a Microsoft. Fortunately, I can still get to the old system.

It isn't slashdotted. It's a hobby page. Something is very very wrong here.
Avast.com has a knoppix disk setup with a windows virus scan on the disk, among other useful things. Unfortunately it is a big bucks item, but very appropriate and useful for sysadmins

This allowed Indonesia to be connected to mainland Asia, as well as Tasmania to Australia. I am uncertain as to the extent of the European Coast line, although it is likely certain that the English channel was dry land. There was much more land in the Bahamas. More and related info here. It is certain that some islands would disappear

They have obviously been put to good use. Or so some would think.
