Isn't the reason we are all going to be forced to switch to digital tv a ploy by the MPAA to control the digital content and, under the dmca, "prevent" us from copying their content? Now they are making threats that they are going to stop providing that content because, once again, the "techie" population knows their technology better than they do and can find loopholes?

I've had this discussion with co-workers before who represent both sides of the subject.
In my opinion I don't believe a H1B should get a job over an American citizen (READ: I'm not saying a H1B SHOULDN'T work in America, I just feel someone who is a citizen of this country should have priority)...and I believe that's the law as well.
The company I work for staff is roughly 25% contract positions, most of which are filled with H1Bs. Out of that, I would assume that at least 85% of the H1Bs work for a "contracting firm" that keeps them on payroll and places them in various companies. Some of these guys are making an insane amount of money for their placement company. So, in essence, they work for a company that they can easily work for under the H1B guidelines, but end up taking a citizens job when they are placed in the field. I feel that this is almost a loophole that allows H1Bs to get a job your normal citizen should get.
I have a VAIO that came with Windows ME...I had to problem switching OS's to Windows 2k...all the necessary drivers ARE available on Sony's support site and I encountered no problems setting it up. As for the Sony apps that shipped, they loaded right off my Application Recovery CD. The only gripe is that one of the apps (I believe Adobe Premiere) required a serial number that I could not locate (maybe it was with the books, I never checked). My only other problem with VAIO's is the amount of heat they generate. I actually took mine apart to verify the fan on the heatsink was working.
I had a headlight wiring harness burn out on my grand prix...the GM dealership wanted $50 for literally the equivalent of a hard-drive power cable. I found a generic-brand at pep boys for $5 that has THICKER wires than the GM one!

I just got the Kenwood KDC-X659 (http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?pro ductTypeId=20&sortBy=price&productId=2419) and am VERY satisfied with it. It is Sirius-ready (which means I still have to buy a satellite antennae) and mp3-compatible. MSRP is $500 but I picked it up at one of those white-trash arena expos for $250.
XM vs. Sirius? After reviewing both I decided that if I would choose to get a satellite radio service (which I probably won't, I like to control my music) I would choose Sirius. More commerical-free channels, less corporate feel to it.
But who cares about radio when you can fit 11 hours of music on 1 CD;)

Did these people just crawl out of a luddite cave?
$1000 for this honking piece of shit?
$1000 for something with less processing power than a Nintendo?
I'd pay $1000 for a WOPR, but not for this.
That has to be the most broken link I've ever seen.

Christ - I thought IE and Lotus Notes took up enough memory already - this beast is using 24 megs on my box!
Hell, they'd be doing me a favor - the actor who plays "Joe" was in a GREAT movie called "The Castle"
Rent it today!
Sony can make a CD with content that disables your CD-ROM and screws with your firmware.
If I did that, it'd be equal to a "virus" and I'd be thrown in jail.
BTW - Kinda ironic how the ads for Sony's new NetMD recorder ENCOURAGE you to rip music.
