It's not a matter of what's available, it's a matter of what people like. I think the GIMP is great, and sure whomps Photoshop. But... people like Photoshop, and people don't want anything else but Photoshop. It's nolstagia, and that's what keeps people going back to the well of Adobe -- the same goes for M$ with their Office suite (though OO and SO are available and do great) and Intuit with Quicken and Quickbooks.
And you can't always expect that everyone's going to cough up code for free. Wine was under an X licnece and gave you the option of making the code proprietary ("more free" as BSD people would put it). This is what the X licence was designed to allow. Deal with it.
OTOH, Transgaming and WineHQ have been trying to figure out ways so that TG can give kickbacks to WineHQ in terms of code.
Even though they don't have GPL'ed drivers for Linux, they have full support. They give me the source code for the kernel driver so I can compile my own kernel and not be stuck to a stock kernel. Yeah, the licence doesn't allow redistribution, but I'm not exactly concerned about that since 1) They're giving the program to me for free as in beer, and 2) I'm not a developer so issues about code modification isn't my concern.
They have kick-ass products that officially support my platform of choice. 'Nuff said.:-)
First, I have to take off the shrink wrap, implying that I agree to the EULA. Next I would have to check the Certificate of Authenticity on the VIN number. After that, I go ahead and fill gas up... not just any standard gas, but one developed by M$ for Volvos -- this costs twice to ten times as much or more, depending on make and model. While the tank isn't that big, the thing's a gas guzzler. After about 50 miles I have to fill up at around $10/gallon for a 2 gallon tank. Again, it's proprietary gas; most likely a diesel. Now it's a regular diseal engine, and modding it to get regular diseal is possible, but there's a TPM in the way, and breaking it is a violation of the DMCA...
In order for the use of this product, you must agree to the following terms.
1. GRANT OF LICENCE. $PERSON1, along with the cooperation of $DIETY (hereafter known as the GRANTOR) grants you, $PERSON2 (hereafter known as the GRANTEE) a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to the GRANTOR's genetic material. GRANTEE accepts that she cannot tranfer the EULA to anyone without GRANTOR's concent.
2. RESTRICTIONS. The GRANTOR 0wnz j00. GRANTOR can change the licence at any time and can withhold all genetic material at any time without the GRANTEE's concent. The GRANTOR has all right. The GRANTEE has none. Amen.
3. LIMIT OF LIABILITY. THE GRANTOR TAKES NO GODDAMN REPONSIBLITY FOR ANYTHING. THE GRANTOR IS ALWAYS RIGHT WITH EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. SHOULD YOU DISAGREE GO FUCK YOURSELF. IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU WILL GET IS THE BURDEN OF RAISING ANY DERIVIATIVE OF THE GRANTOR'S AND GRANTEE'S GENETIC MATERIAL. OFFER VOID FOR EVIL DOERS AND ANYONE GRANTOR THINKS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
Do you agree to the licence terms? [I have no choice] [Screw you, I actually read the EULA!]
Is quite intresting. They tend to crank the volume to allow for them to feel the vibrations of each note. Of course, lyrics are a whole different story. Usually it helps to have the words on a screen.;-)
It's not just on the fact of registration -- does it really matter if all they ask is your gender and age for example? It's just anonymous stats in that case, which imho really doesn't do any harm. If it starts to ask about phone numbers, etc, then yeah, I'm angry and will stop visiting the site as I will protect my privacy.
This is really good that the FTC is putting their foot down on this. Why? Being able to let users understand what is relevant to their search instead of all this corperate clutter and pay-offs that may or may not even be relevant. One thing that I do want to see more and more out of government groups is the further pushing of truth in how search engines index and give relevancy -- that is, what people are looking for, not "Click here and buy NOW!" Personally this should only help engines get more traffic -- like how google does things.
Yeah, I too can imagine teens controlling them

Here's the thing: The terrorists would have all sorts of nice targets using roads because they're everywhere. Think about what travels on those roads: Chemicals, explosives, materials that can burn or contaminate the area. Heck, even nuclear waste will likely be going through your area some time soon to Nevada! (Can't use trains, not much track left due to how the US privatized rail to expand the west.) Sure the terrorists can target trains, but they can plant a bomb on The Golden Gate Bridge too.*:-(
* I'm saying this as an example my dear NSA and FBI. I am not a terrorist, and you shouldn't paint me as one because I also believe in encryption for privacy.
That would be great if's the case to get a standalone Sims; it would be another native Linux game to put on the shelves so the average Joe sees that Linux is more viable...
With The Sims, various Housing and Urban Development groups have been using this to simulate ideal conditions for people to live in since there has been a great deal of research done with the game to provide a more realistic situation with various designs.
It may seem to be a game these simulations, but in simulations it allows for a faster delivery of results statistically and realistically. Most of the time these simulations are money well spent. It doesn't mean that some stat geek isn't going to have some fun and poke around with things as we may do to have fun. You just can't do some things with certain senarios due to time and money.
I thought I saw DUNG -- and I thought to myself "Now THAT is M$!" -- damn dyslexia...
The Linux on the X-Box project?

I sent in my money and all she sent me was spam. And here I thought she was going to send me a nude pic and hours of hardcore action.
*shudders* I don't think I want to know...

Shall I keep going? :-)

All they have to do is sell their vodka and old MIGs -- that should get the $20 billion ;-)

"I'm not camping you camper fag!"
"I 0wnz j00!"

That I'll never use! Gee, whiz, I need to spend $500 on it and take out a second mortgage for the computer I'm going to need!

So M$ DOES get a nickel for everytime Windows crashes...
If we can him to the darkside... ;-)
Wow; 10 days on Windows XP!? You mean you either didn't have to reboot or have to put in a security patch in a 10-day span?
My longest uptime on my personal box was 4 months. Then my uni cut the power -- damn them, and I didn't even have a good UPS.
If you can bet better than bitrate on a mirror; it's not there!
and watch it go away
Nah I think they switched to a talking stapler because of possible patent infringements
