  1. In the US, we're more divided than we've ever been, even during the Civil War. There were just two factions then. Now there are hundreds. Wars between left and right, the racial problems, and even between the sexes are all worse than in the 60's. What was once polite, political disagreements have turned into riots. Arrest the wrong person, and a city burns. Joke with the wrong person, your life is over. The Russians and the Chinese don't need to invade us. We'll kill ourselves.

That's cute...You think people use the space between their ears for something other than keeping their heads three dimensional. If you killed every intelligent being on this planet, the population MIGHT drop by...twelve?

It's nice to see Linux getting some new support, but...music streaming? Take the legal route and hit flea markets and second hand music stores and score all the good music you want. Or hoist the Jolly Roger and scoop up anything that catches your eye. That way, the music sits on my hard drive, and I can listen to it how I want (optional goal, educate all the neighbors about the joys of my taste in music.)

  7. Yep...just noticed that. Thanks.

Granted that it's their playground, but who defines what "hate speech" is? Is it defined at all? It's not unknown for groups to use the phrase "hate speech" to shout down anything they don't agree with.

  10. I may be wrong, but this sounds more like an iTunes clone. Why should I rely on a server out of my control to play my music? Why does it need a server at all?

The cloud is insecure! Who would have thought? A locally controlled cloud, or a contract that has incentives for the owners NOT to be pants on head, window licking morons, can be a good thing. However, most clouds (as far as I have seen) are about a secure as a screen door on a submarine. And as long as the owner of the cloud keeps making money, and writing contracts that absolve them of all responsibility, this will keep happening.

  16. I've noticed, over the time I've been active on this site. In areas of technology and science, it's possible to get some real good information. In ANY circumstance where the story is about how people interact, especially politics, it rapidly devolves to kindergarden-level arguments. If this site is supposed to represent the best and brightest, we're screwed.

  17. Corporate Censorship vs State Censorship on Google News Will Purge Sites Masking Their Country of Origin (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

Why not let me decide what news is "fake" or fake? Censorship is a very slippery slope, and what starts as a well-meaning effort always ends up getting taken over. Let me inform myself and choose which source can be trusted and which ones need to be tossed out. I realize that Google can choose what sources it puts up on its website, and the criteria does make sense. But where does it stop?

  18. Panic-stricken snowflakes say Sky Is Falling! Film at Eleven! Seriously, if California said contact with water made things wet, I'd want to see a full study done by some one else. Somebody in good ol' Cali is getting rich, and laughing very, very hard.

Open trade and diplomacy only work when both sides act in good faith. When the only thing NK wants to negotiate is how much they'll get paid to go away this time....Well, it's obvious who the psycho is. The time frame for a good solution is long past. Being firm with NK, in the beginning, would have slowed this down. Previous presidents payed NK off, because they had other things they wanted to deal with. Paying them off was just easier. So that is what NK learned. Make a fuss, and Europe will wet its panties and beg the US to pay off the crazy man with the bad haircut. Wait, they're both doing it again...
