  2. Not The Right Solution on Ford is Throwing $11 Billion at Its Electric Car Problem (theverge.com) · · Score: 2

Since when is throwing more money at a problem a solution? If the headline had read "Ford to Hire More Engineers For R&D," I'd have been impressed. Increasing budgets, alone, merely drives up costs. MBAs aren't hired to innovate. And their favorite solution, outsourcing to a cheap, poorly run and educated company, will only soak up money. Bragging about burning money by the truckload to produce an underpowered, expensive to buy and own short-lived product only shows why car manufacturers are in the same boat with Java-only programmers.

  3. Use computers to educate the voters, past the average 3rd grade level. Try to teach people how to vote, based on SOME kind of idea of what's best, rather than the usual. Party Lines, It's (Insert Name)'s Turn, They Give Me Money, or (my personal favorite) Because They Will Let Me Change Places With My (perceived) Oppressor.

What happens if the guidance system goes out? If the map the computer's using isn't fully up to date? If I need to move the car only a short distance, or park in a place without parking spaces? This is the same kind of thinking that removed guns from fighter aircraft because "dog fighting is obsolete." I haven't seen any self guiding car system that I would trust to act, with no ability to override. Build one that can handle New York or LA rush hour and I may change my mind.

Even ONE of these companies has more cash on hand to fight this than NYC. Expect this to get tied up in court, until the heat death of the universe. Not saying that NYC might not be right, but this will be seen as a life or death fight. Probably, this might not be much more than a money grab, seeing as how NYC already taxes everything that moves (and quite a few that don't.) Going to be interesting, to say the least.

Some of us actually believe in the right to make a choice, so long as it's only your neck on the block. Want to drink? Be my guest. Wanna see nudes? Go right ahead. But don't insist that I have to pay for your liver transplant, or my kids have to see your pics. And being gay is most defintely a choice.
