Huh? The statistics/articles ive read, studying before-after scenarios, indicate that POOLS DO FORM. That people save their shopping excursions to go with neighbours... etc.
I dont know what *youve* read, but everything Ive seen say they are very effective.
Note to moderators: i just made that up -- though I believe it to be true, they are, after all, just bold assertions without any evidence -- can *I* get a +4 insightfull?
This *is the* reason the world disagreed w/ the US.
Good leaders make decisions based on PRINCIPLE(!); and the "We are going to invade Iraq because we lie about trumped-up charges" is *not a reason*.
The rest of the planet didnt want to *start a war* -- you know, launch an army to INVADE another country... there is NO reason to do it. Ever.
Because USofAmerica believes it can do what it likes, on the basis of serving its percieved-best-interest is what irks the planet. We have to apply international law, freedoms, rights and responsibilities equally. Not "might-makes-right" pursuit of national interests.
Bottom line: i applaud the French for standing up refusing to legitimize the illegal invasion, slaughter, and occupation of *any* nation... its was in the USA's interest to do it to Iraq -- who else? when? The USA is a rogue nation, out of control... lead by unprincipled tyrants.
"..also a bootable ISO image of a minimal Linux distribution containing MAME, but weighing in at 16 MB rather than 200 MB so there is more room for ROMs."
if the file is an ISO, which is a CDimage, how do you add files to it? I use EasyCDCreator on Windows (no cdrw in gnu/linux box..) - how can I open the iso to be burnt, then *add* files to it?
But our government doesn't listen to us, and when we vote, we're given a choice of several unpleasant alternatives, so we generally just try to pick the person who'll do the least amount of damage
May I make a suggestion? Please, if your a conservative, vote/run/volunteer/contribute to the Libertarians. If your a Leftie (like me) vote/run/volunteer/contribute to the Green Party.
You yanks gotta shake up the Republicans && Democrats -- vote for some '3rd parties' and keep them on their toes.:)
Let's get something clear, ok? In order to make a moral choice NOT to do something, you have to have the power to DO it in the first place..Similarly, since Canadian Military Might isn't very mighty, it's not like you're CHOOSING to leave the world alone.
Well, not exactly. Canada, as most Western Nations have the 'ability' to have a massive military. For instance, the USA has *chosen* to be the warmonger it is presently. Massive military is a prerequisite of that. Had Canada chosen Warmongering instead of Peace, we would be more than capable of doing it.
as for your analogy, its somewhat flawed. It would more accurate to say CHOOSE to someone take steroids/learn karate, so that he could beating on "normal" people. These normal people *choose* to live peacefully, but one nation, unable to deal with the world around him in a normative way -- the way the others desire and do mostly amounghst themselves -- decides to approach them screaming wildly and demanding others bend to his "peaceful" ways.
Unbelievable. Listen friend, what Im suggesting is that you get involved and wrestle control of your country back from the Plutocrats who lie to the disinformed to get themselves elected. The USA is *not* the height of human society, you are *not* infallable. The world neither "looks up to you" nor is "jealous of you". Please, try and be just a little objective.
As for this 'invade canada for natural resources', thank you for proving my point; USofAmericans are warmongering, rabid jingoists. I can see you now, drooling over your keyboard, eyes dilated, face red "HOW DARE THIS CANUCK CAST DISPERSIONS AT THE USA! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Christ man, look at yourself a moment. You are a preWWII German. %non-existant-diety% please help us all.
Ok, you recieved a +5 insightfull. But really, is anyone surprised to hear Hatch say this stuff? Throw out due-process and presumption of innocence, "No Big Deal! Ive got corprate bank accounts to protect!"
I dont know what to say to my American Neighbours about these issues anymore... things are NOT getting better in the USA, and it doesnt look like any solution is on the horizon. You yanks keep electing Republicrats.. and nothing else. Your system is BEYOND corrupt, the payola is literally destroying your government by making your representatives biatches to thier Plutocratic buddies.
Im very certain things are going to get alot worse before they get better -- not only for Americans, but for the rest of the world, because, like it or not, you guys have a unequaled Military... you spend $400Billion a year, The Rest of NATO spends $160Billion combined and Russia, the 2nd largest independant spender comes in at $60Billion.
Im watching the US miltiary might, coupled with an Arrogant Ignorant and Disinformed Populace and Im waiting for you Yanks to start WWIII.
Democrats == Republicans. Is this your point? Your right, outside of a few minor issues (like blatant war-mongering and hubris...) there are little differnces.
The USA is the most corrupt stagnant plutocracy in the world.
The DMCA already destroys your right of due process. A Cease and Desist need only be written to your ISP to take down website, if not, the ISP is immediately liable...
The corporate government is taking over the USA. Does this *really* surprise anyone anymore?
"Our response to being bored and rich is not to discard our possessions and live more simply, but to buy more stuff to reduce the space in which we might contemplate our shame."
ok, not this guy. Im not going to 'toot-my-own-horn' here, but this is *not* true of everyone. I agree that the NorthAmerica is quickly headed this way, but some of us are actively screaming out in the darkness and trying to convince others to wake up a little.
Brash consumerism, brand fetishism, ecological devistation, work-a-holism are all a product/cause of our the $wealth$ in NA.
So, while I am most certainly not a neo-luddite, I put alot of decisions to the "do I *need* that test?". "What is the environmental/social impact of that purchase?" I read labels. I live in "the city", but buy Local Food, from Local Farmers (novel eh?). I wont paint anything outdoors. I reclaimed all the wood from my demolition to serve anew in my home renovation. I volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. I am the President of my Local Green Party Riding Association. I run the neighbourhood composter in my back-yard. I only plant indigenous plants in my yard. I use the library instead of buying my own copies of books. I live in a 100year old townhouse "downtown". I ride my bike to work, and walk to the corner-store, and ride with Critical Mass to eductate traffic.
So, do I think Im better than other people? No, but I do think that other people are mindlessly, and aimlessly being directed by outside influences, driving them to be irresponsible, vapid and destructive to their communities and the planet.
Bottom Line: Simple choices can help dig North America out of its destructive funk - do something to help out please. As a side note, living this way is MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE. I want to RETIRE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE instead of making bankers rich, work 60hrs a week and let strangers raise my children.
Nortel has some really good product: here, their VOIP handsets/desktop phones and software-based-voip-phones are *very* cool... coupled with a 802.11x AP, it is VERY COOL. Ipaq + 802.11x CF Nic + Nortel Software == wirless phone in your office.
Really, what is the US coming to? With VERY little research, a foreigner, like myself can discover this is conservative propagnada. Al Gore Never said he "invented the internet". He did say, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
Regarding that statment; Vincent Cerf, who's been called the Father of the Internet, said "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator."
The inventor of the Mosaic Browser, Marc Andreesen, credits Gore with making his work possible. He received a federal grant through Gore's High Performance Computing Act. The University of Pennsylvania's Dave Ferber says that without Gore the Internet "would not be where it is today."
Joseph E. Traub, a computer science professor at Columbia University, claims that Gore "was perhaps the first political leader to grasp the importance of networking the country. Could we perhaps see an end to cheap shots from politicians and pundits about inventing the Internet?"
So, what Gore said was "true" according to Traub, Ferber, Andreesen, and Cerf.
Bottom line, please DONT spread this meme, its flatly untrue... but the fact that this story "Has Legs" in the US is not surprising, when you read here (please read this..) that One in three Americans believe WMD have been found in Iraq. Nearly one in four Americans believe Iraq actually used WMD in the war. And half of those polled in a survey said Iraqis were among the 19 hijackers on Sept. 11, 2001.
With the US so poorly informed, its no wonder Shrub runs willy-nilly around the planet... WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE USA?
Have a look at this SCO price chart -- How long will it take for a judge to get to make some rulings in this case? what kind of timeline are we looking at? If you short SCO stock, you could get seriously rich if SCO gets clobbered by a judge to the order of "we throw this out", or "there will be no injuction against selling AIX" etc etc. There is a serious bubble building here.. if you bet right, you could do seriously well in a short position...
while so many people ramble on about "free will" and "choie, turn off the TV", etc etc here, the bottom line is pretty simple.
Prior to TV, thier CULTURE had managed to eliminate all these things we have in abundance in the west (greed, dishonesty, violence) -- I dont care how they did it... many hundreds of years of Budhism? Simple Isolation with a benevolent leader (hmrm, The Leader... sorry.. nm.. anyway..) they managed to have a culture of peace. That culture of peace should be OUR GOAL.
Im not going to stretch the article and say that TV *did* cause a breakdown in their morally superior culture, but lets face it, TV *does* portray very negative social events in a very cavalier way... mixed in with that is the Eyeballs to Advertisers (EtoA) motivation and weve got a pretty ill-directed mass media.
Should we censor TV and turn it into a mass-mind-control device? No, I dont think so, but the EtoA motivation REALLY degrades the quality of the signal to the point of titilation and exploitation (watch NBC/ABC/CBS 1800 in any American City -- it has zero value).
So, what am I saying? Im willing to accept TV actually *causes* a rise in crime -- because people NEVER exposed to it (like our friends in bhutan) can simply not concieve of it, wouldnt dare protray such terrible acts -- yet on TV, its there in abundance to inundate and desensitize. This can't be good.
In the West, I believe TV/Radio should be 100% non-profit venture... this reduces the media to the obligation of inform and entertain... not profit. The *profit* motivation is what gaurantees questionable content... to exploit, to titilate.
My bet is that they intend for future versions of IE to be even more integrated into Windows and don't want to waste programming time on a seperate version for the Mac
Or that because they dont control the OS, they cant tie their "embrace-the-internet' strategy into OSX -- meaning, the new WindowsIE wont be a browser, but something else alltogether more related to putting new ie/windows/internet features not in the brower(or html) but in some secret, underlying IIS/Windows integration... IE on OSX would have to be a seperate and different application(still a html-rendering browser)... *not* what MS will be doing with IE.
..hmmm what exactly is an "enviroloonie"? People who oppose Nuclear Power Plants so that we can manufacture HappyMeal Toys?
Its not just the pollution itself, its a question of risk/cost vs. gain, right now, we are taking much liberty with the natural world -- and for what reason? So people can buy their 15th pair of %big-brand-name% shoes this year? F that noise.
As for this projet, I wouldnt be against it. But I am a member of the Green Party. Environmentalists are not insane, m'kay? Powerfull people want you to dismiss reasoned arguments, so that you'll continue to mindlessly consume... and pollute, and destroy nature... got that Consumer1bx231-c12?
and you'd be better off teaching more in-depth responses to virii. For example, why does a certain exploit work? What's vunerable, etc
yes, a class spent re-writing Outlook would be a better lesson... now, if only MS would give its code to the Uni in a manner that isnt insulting to a Open, Enlightened Institution of Higher Learning.
man looks himself over, up and down in the mirror.

Hmrphm, cause and effect friends... do I *really* need the intrusion of TELEVISION in the mirror, where, formally, I used to be ALONE with myself?
Apple provides an experience to the end user.
earth to "maise" earth to "maise". Products are not an 'experience' in spite of what the marketroid's pro-consumption propaganada tells you.
Linux is free and uncontrollable, which makes it alot more inconsistent requiring more maintenance etc, etc...
Should read: Linux is free (as in Libre) and 100 % controllable by everyone, which makes it alot more flexable...
What 'spectrum' is this you speak of? Proprietary/Closed and Expensive on one end, and Libre/Open on the other?
Huh? The statistics/articles ive read, studying before-after scenarios, indicate that POOLS DO FORM. That people save their shopping excursions to go with neighbours... etc.

One more thing: "Fuck you warmongering yankee baby killer".
