It helps to put the first page of the article in your submission rather than the conclusion. I didn't know your article was any longer than just the conclusion until just now.
Additionally, the hardware lock-in - a lock-in that is Apple's choice - makes it hard to get exactly what you need. The Mac Mini I purchased originally would have been fine to complete this test if it had come with more RAM, but replacing the RAM was so daunting a task due to the ultra-compact form factor, I didn't bother.
So you're telling me that an author from HardOCP, an overclocking website, considered the task of adding memory to a computer to be too daunting to bother with? Come on. It tells you how to add memory to the computer in the manual.
I'd rather see the show go out on a high note than to jump the shark. Two of my favorite shows are Seinfeld and The Simpsons. Seinfeld went out at the top, so whenever I catch a rerun of it, I can be sure I'll enjoy it. With The Simpsons, I usually avoid the reruns because at this point there are more bad episodes than good ones. I hope I'll be able to enjoy reruns of Battlestar Galactica for a long time to come.
That's a really good idea. I wish I had some mod points. Law enforcement needs to start bringing spam out of the "virtual" world and into the realm that they have more experience prosecuting cases in. I imagine they'd have a much easier time prosecuting a RICO case since there's more of a precedent there.
No wonder the white man had such an easy time taking Indians' land. They're complete morons! This is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time. Stick to the casinos, those make sense and are a good business move.
The Minibosses are O.K., but they sound a bit too much like studio musicians. No soul, no zest in the songs. Give me The Advantage any day. They add more pizazz to the NES songs, rather than go through them relatively straight forward. Check out their second CD "Elf-Titled", it's a fun listen.
Exactly. This is how golf tournaments are organized, and those are legal. It's legal to award prize money based on skill, just not based on luck, unless you're sanctioned by the state.
No, we don't take Dr. Phil seriously. Well, there's the Oprah devoted, but you'll have the easily duped anywhere. Oprah has that much pull with the people who run daytime television. She can put unqualified friends of hers on TV if it's packaged right.
That's a good point. I wonder why more people gravitated toward Netscape? I know I used it because it came on the floppy disk that my ISP gave me. If Mosaic was on there, I would have used that.
I think they were going for the watershed products as opposed for the pioneers. They mention this in their entry for "Doom" and they allude to it a bit in the "StarTAC" entry. They are giving preference to the programs that took what existed before and added that extra bit to make the product really important.
They do mention Visicalc. It's under the Lotus 1-2-3 section, where they say that 1-2-3 was much better than Visicalc. So I think they picked one product to be the home spreadsheet vanguard, and their decision was to go with Lotus.
I think Circuit City's having to adapt to getting their ass handed to them by Best Buy. They're getting killed by Best Buy. I remember when I was working at Circuit City (1998 or so) and Best Buy was starting to provide a bit of competition, but CC wasn't worried. Recently though, I was watching "Mad Money" on CNBC and the host, Jim Cramer, was saying that Best Buy is completely dominating the retail electronics market.
I've come up with scads of great ideas while high on pot. In fact, that's one of the reasons I like it. It puts my brain into overdrive. In fact, there was a period in my life where I smoked a lot of it and it added a second, more encompassing way of thinking onto the way I used to think. You ought to give it a try, you might be pleased with the results!
I barely ever read the articles (ha ha), I just go straight to the comments. I've learned so many things and have been exposed to a lot of different viewpoints by reading the/. comments. Slashdot comments are definitely the strength of the site.
Seconded. I'm a big Mac fan, and I don't even like the Roughly Drafted articles. They start out with a pro-Apple stance and then manufacture "facts" to support the pre-determined conclusion. These suck Jon Katz-style.
Now, a thoughtful, and more objective interpretation of the word [art] boils down to anything that is produced through a creative process.
There's a distinction you're leaving out. Art is created primarily to evoke a feeling in people. This is what excludes things like well-designed furniture from being art. There are some really nice looking wooden tables out there, but they're not art. They took some creativity to make and definitely display some artistic aptitude, but they're not art. I'm not touching the debate on whether games are art or not, but I figured I'd chime in on the definition of art.

Wow, what incisive wit. No wonder you were modded +5.

Damn, you beat me to it. "Um, Bob, you're not going to believe this, but I'm detecting dark matter surrounding Uranus!"
I know what you mean. Some of the comments on this Slashdot article are longer and more interesting than that article was.

Did you learn English from the Police Academy movies?

That's awesome. Reminds me of a "Deep Thought" that Jack Handey might have written. Funny stuff.

That's a good point. I saw more bloody fights in school than I ever did once I got out.

I'd like to meet one of these fellows. Or maybe it's a case of the report writer writing with a flourish.
Now that's funny. That comment earned its +5.

Oops, I didn't read your whole post. Maybe I should call it a night, it's 1 AM and my reading comprehension has gone bye bye!
