I haven't flown much recently but most of the flying I have done in the past was in planes that to me seemed somewhat out of date. There are a lot of old planes in the air, many of which need to be retired from service. I can only assume that the data recorders are of the same vintage as the planes in which they are installed.
if you're allowed 3 drinks per day and it is good for you why not save up your booze allowance and have 3 six packs on Friday night? Makes perfect sense!
So giant robots will not be scary at all compared with metal towers? What a marvellous idea. The Eiffel tower is due for an anthropomorphic makeover any day now. The colossus of Paris perhaps.
I mean the brain is just a series of tubes, right? How hard can it be to replicate the brain? I bet someone already did it with Logo Mindstorms. Or Play-Doh! or something. Some of you guys are just so defeatist and negative.
Given the choice, who actually listens to the radio? I have avoided radio for many years. There is nothing at all on the radio for me. I want a phone that is a phone and do not want extra crap built in that I do not need. People who want radio on their phones can already get such devices. I hope that the powers that be will show rare common sense and throw this one out without a second thought. But somehow I can't help thinking that they will at least waste some time and and tax money debating the bill - it it ever gets that far. I certainly hope not!
I think you may be very much alone in this line of thinking. Math's is to me - math is which leads dangerously cheesily to Mathis - Johnny Mathis! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Mathis
Sometimes narrow focus is a good thing. Just because there is all of that information available does not mean that it is good or reliable. When we learn which sources are consistently reliable we can focus on them and ignore the unreliable ones. Thus we have narrowed our focus in a positive way. I'm assuming here that the choice of reliable sources is made intelligently and objectively (as is humanly possible) and not just cherry picked to suit personal/subjective outlooks. Of course I did not read TFA. Doing so would have been way too wide angle. Fish-eye almost.
I agree completely. See my post re Singapore Math. My mathematical abilities are nothing special at all, but the way these books for elementary school are put together is awful. There is a reason for standard notation and syntax and throwing that out to make it easier to understand with no standard way of doing it makes it even more confusing. I expect that my sons will have an even more difficult struggle with mathematics than I had.
I'm no expert by an means - I have son in 2nd grade.
When I used to help him with his homework I was often appalled at how poorly written his mathematics books were. Often there were problems that were impossible to solve because there were mistakes in the figures or wording. I would usually write a note in the margin explaining why the problem was insoluble. No feedback from the teacher, ever. I personally found the Singapore Math to be counter-intuitive. That's a pretty bad foundation for later learning
Seems to me the majority of teachers are actually stupid and merely get by on having the teachers' answer book. They barely comprehend the basic mathematics themselves. They have too much work to do to do their jobs properly(!)
The other thing that has always annoyed me deeply is this phonetic spelling thing. Parents are told not to point out spelling errors (because it might hurt little Johnny's self esteem!) and that phonetic spelling is acceptable in the early years of school. My question then is - when is incorrect spelling no longer acceptable? At retirement age? I think this nonsense goes a long way to explain the very American their/there/they're debacle.

'piqued' not 'peaked'
My theory is that the guy was reading the current /. poll and got some crazy ideas from the comments on the poll.
So that's who's been calling my cell number and then hanging up. Fat fingered clods.
was Craig Smallwood any good at the game?
Get your little pointy forks and bread ready. A fondu downpour will happen any day now.
It's...it's a Transformer!

It's pretty obvious odies is taking the piss.

Yes, I really didn't want to use IE on Mac OS 9 but Netscape gave me no alternative!

looks like my post on Singapore Math got thrown in the memory hole. What's up with that /.?

Maths is awkward? Math's is just plain bonkers. How did you arrive at that abomination?
Mendel meets Mengele
They had to research this?
I can only hope that there is an aria including the line 'I will chop you up' or something similar.
SAD! Slurry. Taht was a tie poo.
