I still have a hard time figuring out why people think $150 is too much for the software that lets you interface (pretty darn nicely) with your computer.

People have no problem going out and paying $50 for the latest game, but they have a problem with paying 3x that for the software that lets them run every single one of those games. It's not like you have to buy a copy of Windows every 30 days. $150 will get you an OS that will last long enough for your hardware to be obsolete.

Enough rambling, I just don't understand the logic you people use.

  5. Record the commercials to watch later on The Programmer Who Could Save Tivo · · Score: 1

Reading through the comments and stuff, people seem to suggest that they would watch commercials if they were targeted towards them.

I agree with them, I would watch them if they were something I was interested in.

The thing is, Tivo could already do this, as if I recall correctly, every night at 2:20am (or so) my DirecTivo needs to change to a channel to download content. If they're downloading content on that channel, why not just record the video that's on that channel too? They could run 30 minutes of commercials and record them.

Then they could present them to you in categorys:

    Automotive/Womens Products/Household/etc

They're already using 30 minutes of my recording time late at night to download stuff as it is, they could make the advertisers happy(er) and I would actually watch commercials.

In high school, some friends and I got laser tag guns and were playing in a park at night. A friend and I were hiding in a bush when we heard a vehicle pull up behind us. All of a sudden a spot light shines on us and we hear "TURN AROUND AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP!" "Uh, oh, shit." Police pulled us out at gun point, everyone else had to come join us and we were all made to sit on the ground at gun point. Being the young easy going kids that we were, we laughed and chuckled at being drawn out at gunpoint over laser tag. Backup arrived and they were joking around with us and being cool. All in all the night ended with the original cops telling us they could give us trespassing tickets and giving curfew tickets to those who were under 18.

    Good times.

Can't and won't are 2 different things. A relative of mine was a developer for Microsofts Intellipoint 5.0. Basically, if your applications don't use newer controls that implement scrolling properly, your application doesn't scroll with the wheel.

They chose to drop support because it was getting to ugly/buggy to continue to maintain. Which do you want? A buggy driver that you'll complain about? Or a push in the direction to make things work correctly?

I suppose this all depends on location and such.

I think it sucks because I was told that Qwest waited to patch their servers not thinking that this was a big problem. A company as big and powerfull (bandwidth wise) as Qwest is should be carefull with their servers, especially with things like this that could take out service for everyone.

Luckily my company was able to eventually get through to some semi-compietent people at tech support that helped us through it. Unfortunately my dads company wasn't so lucky. They had 6 hour waits just to get hung up on, and call back, wait 4 more hours just to get someone that avoided the fact that it was there.

I eventually ended up giving him the way to fix it and they were up again in a few minutes. But without experiances with Qwest we are not in a position to highly reccomend them as an ISP. Though, when they're up, they're good. But so goes the story of broadband connections, right? :)
