If you scroll down to the "bottom" of that image, line yourself up with the very top of that monstrous sunspot and then cut directly left, you can see a nearly perfect image of a face.

Now I guess we sit back and wait for the conspiracy theories to fly.

I believe you are thinking of Kazaa Lite.

He supposedly strips Kazaa of spyware. Yes, you can't be sure of that.

However, this shouldn't be confused with Gnucleus which is an open source Gnutella client (that Morpheus ripped off awhile ago and ADDED spyware to it).

The only problem is that Bill Orielly is a pretentious ass and is almost as conservative as Rush Limbaugh.

Not that liberals like myself are any better, but votes like these (over issues that protect industry vs. consumer) tend to be over party lines, with conservatives usually voting in favor of big business.

All Orielly would do would be to promote why it's a good thing and how most of America is evil because we "steal".

  9. To each his own... on Perception of Linux Among IT Undergrads · · Score: 1

I don't know if Microsoft has the best tech support overall, but almost every development issue I've had questions on, they've been able to help me. M$'s shitty programming isn't synonomous with crappy tech support.

From what I've used of Linux, I've gotten some decent tech support, mainly from the community itself, but much of it has also been met with hostile responses since I am technically a "newbie" and I guess many don't want linux to be a trendy thing...

So to this I say, each person really has their own perceptions of how well these companies handle their tech support issues.

    This is off-topic, yes :)

Well "Deus Ex" is actually Greek, meaning "God from..."

The phrase comes from "Deus Ex Machina" which means "God from machine." This was commonly used in Greek plays, where a "God" type figure had to be razed over the stage using a crain of some sorts.

If you've played the game Deus Ex, the inside CD sleeve also explains the meaning. And if you've played the game, then you know that "God from machine" (computer controlling everything...) is the whole underlying theme of the game.

  11. Microsoft Support on Abiword: Support Expectations · · Score: 1

I actually agree with this statement. As much as many of us hate the evil empire, some of their support options are fairly decent.

I haven't had a wide variety of experience with all of their support services, but what I have used hasn't been too bad.

I tried the phone route one time which was erm, interesting. Instead of playing chessy hold music, they have like an actual DJ.

"That was Pink Floyd - The Wall. Currently, there are 14 people waiting on hold for help right now with an average wait of 20 minutes. Next up, Aerosmith."

I have to admit, it was slightly amusing. So maybe there is a reason for their overpriced software? :)

One other support service I have done is their online tech support. Once you describe your problem (I'm usually dealing with Access at work), they are pretty good at responding within a short time. Sometimes within a few hours, but never more than a day or so. They do a good job at helping out with solutions. I think there's only been 2 times they haven't been able to help me, but that is only because my company wants to do stuff that Access isn't "l337" enough to support.

I guess to each his own. There are probably those who have horrible issues with Microsoft support, but I'm sure you can find those same cases among the linux community. (Look at many of the elitist pricks who offer such wonderful advice as formatting hard drives and burning computers to inexperienced users :)

  13. Blackhole's Gravity on Giant Black Hole Found · · Score: 1

Well I remember taking Physics quite awhile ago in high school. If my now faulty (God, I'm only 20!) memory still serves me right, the gravity of blackholes are really nothing to be in awe of. (To a specific point of course).

In the following example, I will use Sol (our sun!) as the subject. Now even though it could never turn into a blackhole, we'll hypothosize it is. Basically, if it turned into a blackhole, this "amazing gravity" that sucks even light in, would only be effective within the *original* volume of the sun. i.e; Earth would be fine. Everything should orbit normally without a problem. Now once you get near where the surface of the sun once was and even within the original volume, this is where this astronomical gravity comes into effect.

Now I honestly know I wasn't sleeping during that part of class (if so, then this is some ellaborate theory I've just created...) so I may be wrong. But I notice everyone talking about how we could "use it as a slingshit for space travel" or "Oh No! We may be sucked in!!", but from what I remember studying, it really isn't like that.

  14. Dorms, filesharing, etc... on Article In The Guardian On Internet2 · · Score: 1

This is slightly off-topic as well, but just responding to the above post.

I have a friend who goes to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in CA. He was telling me that so many people are using Morpheus and Kazaa that just like above, the internet connections are TERRIBLY slow.

Apparently what Cal Poly SLO has done to combat this is cut their bandwidth in half. I guess the story goes that someone donated their internet connection (or the money for it) under the terms that Cal Poly could not BLOCK any website. So to get around this file sharing craze, they just go and cut their available bandwidth in half. This makes it even slower/impossible for people to transfer files, so eventually people just give up.

I personally am not sure how effective this is, but my friend was telling me that many people he knows have stopped using Morpheus just for this exact reason that it is so slow.
