    I think this was a response to my comment about being the next Greece.

    And to respond to that what makes you so sure? That whole stop listening to people is a lame response! I am all for programs don't get me wrong what I am not for is increases in spending on war overseas. Bush picked it up and ran with it! Obama promised to end it but has only increased it. So the only side I take is that of a major shift in foreign policy.

    Funny, your story reminds me of the one my Dad tells about being in the Army Corps of Engineers in Vietnam. Guys in his unit created their own Banana clip to add ammo capability to their assault rifles. Upper levels freaked when they saw what they had done, eventually though, their design made it back and became the curved design now used.

    You mean the power vacuum that we helped create by sticking our noses in where they don't belong.

    Aid as in $$$ that we (US) don't have? Read about Greece on BBC yet today? The US is next! Keep upping the debt limit so that we can "help others" great idea!

    Okay I understand where you are coming from but I also work in Higher Ed and the student body at my college is representative of adult learners (yes we're non-profit). These are working adults that have realized that to get ahead in their field they need a degree.

    Broken system or not to get ahead you need a degree. The problem here is that too many geeks think that they are too good for the traditional system (Cnn article inspired by Thiel). Reals geeks have Phd's or are working toward one.

    There is a real reason why the Master's degree is the new Bachelor's degree and the Bachelor's degree is now equivalent to the HS degrees of the past.

    I agree, however, whenever I used to type notes in class with open office writer, I would never maximize it. Yes you had to scroll more, but you also have more real estate on the edges for other applications running in the background. I could never understand other students full screening their MS Word, especially those that were not ADD.

    I agree, I also wonder how the general pebcak's will react to the theme of the movie. Will they understand that the book was ground breaking stuff? Or will they think it's a cheap knock off of the Matrix.

    It's been so long since I read Gibson (and I was so young: early high school) that I just added several of his books to my amazon wishlist! I can't wait to re-read them all!

    I second ThePhish's comment about Blumenthal. As a resident of CT I have seen the results of his actions and letters to businesses. I was sad to see him go when he won the senate seat.

    I would be very surprised if Sony did not take him very seriously. He represents a very large voice (yes read it "the US government") that may soon rally behind his simple letter.

    Come On! I dropped Chrome shortly after noticing the only adware and spyware on my computer was coming in via chrome. coincidence? I think not.
    Apple and Google are large corps. End of story. They will gather and sell the hell out of every bit of data they can get about their users, like every good company marketing dept does.

    Wrong? Maybe. . . retreats into hole and puts on foil hat.

    I worked at Target for a while and they actually did walk around and give us candy for doing a good job. And they wondered why there is a 100% turnover rate in retail. Yup I agree with you Geek! hard to say that this was a good idea. I can't believe what employers do to employees. I've been told that I should be happy to even have a job by a low level manager no raises, no fair treatment, just a pay check, and be happy you get one! WRONG! just plain wrong!

    Spot on! I totally agree. I have no Idea what half these people are talking. It's not that there isn't a small jump in quality at all...... I can't stand watching a DVD on my 50 inch plasma and PS3. I have been saying things like "Wow that looked fake" and "I can't believe how old ...... looks!" ever since I bought my the 50" watching Blu-Rays is and insane quality improvement. Now I will say though that I did not opt for a Blu-Ray drive in my latest PC build, That i just can't justify!

    Hmmmm.... electric cars, I live in New England (land of oil heating) and let me tell you, I have electric heat. It sucks! Literally sucks the cash from my bank account. It is one of the most inefficient ways to heat a home. I will be the last one to plug my freaking car in my garage to watch my already inflated electric costs go through the roof once more. Oh Electric, Oh Solar, Oh Wind, Where is thy love for me. ... ?

    Yeah it blows me away that "modern" houses are not already wired with Cat5e as a minimum but in reality they probably already are. I owned a 'new' house in FL built back in 2000 ish. it was wired with cat5 but terminated with RJ15 to a phone line. . . like I said that was back 11 years ago. I'm not sure why builders don't term the cables into something more useful. I would love to have RJ45's in every room rather than some stupid phone line that I haven' t used since 1999. But alas, I would still prefer connect via wired over wireless any day. Real problem is ignorance! consumers not knowing that their monitor is not their computer. . . .PEBCAK.....!

    I'm not convinced that it was all W's fault. We were attacked because of all of our past (and continuing)interference where we don't belong.     Anyone that has Faith and does not have doubt is lying to you. Faith is a word that is very misunderstood by the masses. True faith should be based in reason. Blind faith is not faith at all. Read a little of Francis Schaeffer one of the last true evangelical philosophers.     Just another prime example of why IE sucks sooo bad! I've been running FireFox beta (now RC) 4 since early Feb. Works great on XP! and I don't have to put up with Google spying on me with Chrome!

    Actually, contrary to popular belief (read media) the very conservative wings (Baptists, especially) are not swelling, but shrinking. I know as I attended one such seminary of a Major Baptist entity. Needless to say I did not pursue employment in such a church due to its contradictory teaching. (and yes I meant to say employment!) No church is truly growing in this day. Except the Muslims, but not specifically in the US. Beck is a little off except in his Libertarian views. Paul Thiel and I are on the same LP.org page so to speak. That has nothing to do with religion, and is actually anti-religion. Like the others posting here I can't figure out why Conservatives follow Beck except that the fact that they follow anything on Fox News "fair and eqully unbalanced" as I call them. ->BS

Innovation is the source of technological advancement. The more they try to control, the more people will fight against it. There's too many brilliant hackers in this world to create anything secure. But that's what makes the whole thing so great.
