    Since companies will not give feedback on why they didn't hire you, there is no way to know why things went the way they went.

    If you go through a contracting agency, you get feedback, because the agency needs the feedback so they can select a better candidate. You may not like this arrangement for other reasons, but it is possible to get feedback.

    How about writing some new stories, instead of remaking movies?

    But really, people want to see movies in the comfort of their own home, not be ripped off for popcorn. Deal with it.

    Memento, Interstellar, Inception. These were not original? And as for Sophia Coppola, do you even know what kinds of movies she makes?

  6. I do go to the theater when I can. But for the other 95% of films I see for the first time, I can't afford the time, ticket, and babysitting.

    I think from living in the LA area, I've absorbed some of the film connoisseur mentality, so I'm right there with them. The first time I saw Interstellar was at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood and the experience completely affected my appreciation of the film. But for the vast majority of films, I'm either going to see it on our 37" living room budget TV after my kids go to sleep, or not at all.

    say we used the word Union. It would be an organization of people from the same industry banded for the benefit of all workers. Maybe the workers could donate a little of their monthly income so the Union could hire lawyers and lobbying power. Its just an idea...

    These are not petitions for things unions care about, like benefits, pay, and work conditions. It is in a union's best interest to keep its members stably employed so that those union dues keep creeping higher. Diversifying the workforce has little to do with this.

    If you don't like the culture where you work, and your suggestion box entries seem to disappear into the ether, then get a different job, explaining why you chose to leave. If that doesn't change the culture, then chances are you weren't valuable enough for them to care about your petition anyway.

    You could also try to work your way into management, such that you're entrusted with decisions that affect the area you want to change. But let's be honest--by that point you've probably come around to the company's point of view on most things.

    The story can't be that these are newly discovered footprints. The aboriginals have known about them long enough that they are a part of their creation myths. Or is it just that white people know about them now?

    Apple killed Flash, or at least threw the first stone by disallowing it on their mobile devices. They did it because they saw the writing on the wall. Flash was a security nightmare, and really only existed as a stopgap because bandwidth used to be a far more of a premium and there were no web standards for streaming video, audio, and animation. This is mostly fixed with HTML5.

    Believe me when I say this is uncharacteristic of me, but, "Thanks Steve Jobs!"

  11. Why would anyone trust Facebook not to store the content? Even if they don't store the video itself, I'd expect them to run voice recognition on it and store and index the text so they can send you ads about whatever you talk about.

    And from where exactly do you think Snapchat's revenue is supposed to come?

    If you read TFA you will see that "why we can't have nice things for cheap" refers to the tactic employed by large companies of threatening legal action against small competitors that those competitors can't afford to defend against, even if they are likely to win. It's a tactic that Acushnet has used before.

    But this is a threat against Costco and if they lose it's hardly a line item for them. If they win it's a win for golfers on a budget.

    They've fought for years to get market share, but even with a competitive product it's still only gone down. Microsoft just isn't cool enough for people.

    The Surface line is pretty well regarded, and seems to have sold pretty well. Plus, there might be a market for a phone that's more secure than Android but, well, not Apple. Sure, I wouldn't bet on it--but I probably wouldn't bet it against it either.

    It's a major problem in technology that really needs to be addressed if this country is going to be competitive in the future. It's unfortunate that it's so inflammatory, but it needs to be addressed.

    I think the manager was agreeing with you, so I don't really see the story here.

    That's because they used to be independent instead of being owned by Disney.

    Yeah but if Disney didn't buy Pixar, we'd never have Wreck it Ralph or Big Hero 6. Disney Animation Studios films are nearly indistinguishable from Pixar in quality since the acquisition.

    A large portion of the 18-24 demographic may be on their parents plan or split among multiple people lowering the average cost. And I don't think any of the major carriers charge $100 for their "unlimited" plan currently. I know I have 4 lines on Tmobile for $100 (+ taxes) and while not unlimited, with our home internet none of us go over the 3 or 3.5GB/month bucket.

    18-24 years ago the previous generation also probably had a $40 phone bill, $20+ internet bill for dialup, and $40+ cable bill...all replaced by that now <$100 cell phone bill.

    The plans are only cheaper now because the phones are purchased a la carte (as they should be).

    This blame-Millennials, blame-Boomers crap is counterproductive and stupid. I'm sorry you had crappy parents but mine are great. And likewise with Millennials: I know a few starry-eyed 20-somethings myself and I hope they can learn from at least a few of my own mistakes.

    AR was always going to be the "Next Big Thing". VR is a fun, limited-use-case solution looking for a problem. AR keeps the user productive. AR keeps the user engaged in the world around him/her.

    I would think the ultimate trend will be convergence. AR glasses with a wide field of view, that can completely block out the environment if you wish.

    I like how you ignored my question. If a Degree was a Degree in terms of Jobs, why can't I go be a certified Medical professional due to my Math Degree? I'll add that I also have a Philosophy degree which I received at the same time as my Math degree. I have two of them, so should be more than qualified. Hell, I should be able to be a professor of English Studies, because the only thing that counts is experience and I have been writing my whole life.

    Who cares? The article, and discussion, is about infosec. Look over some job listings and you'll see a degree is not typically a high priority.

    but the old one has tons of youtube videos of killing shit and as someone who works K-12 this kind of thing has managers pissing their pants in fear of kids with them.

    Then disconnect the external USB ports on desktops and epoxy them in on laptops. There are so many ways for kids to destroy school property, why be afraid of this one?
