a west african company (looked like non-nigerian) wanted to import bottled water. My Dad was all set to do it until I did some investigation and found that some of the corrospondence was very Nigerian scam like, plus a lot of the communication details (phone numbers, address' etc) were leading back to Nigeria.
anyway, long story short, DO NOT do business deals with any West African companies, just to risky.
I'm probably younger than the poster (only 32), but I'm definately sick of sitting in front of a computer all day.
Computing/IT used to be a hobby, but now its just boring. So I took up sailing. In a few years time I might have enough experience and qualifications to start teaching. Not much money in it, but at least it will be fun.
emphasis on average
sometimes we had items with 10% failure, but usually most things were like 1 or 2%
not that it seemed like that when working helldesk
it has evolved, My father was almost taken in.

exactly what I was going to suggest
also pf syntax is a lot easier to understand than iptables
thats the way i would do it too
dunno what planet you're from, but it was far from stale.
Sure there were some lame shows, but overall it was still good
new series of all 3 shows (BSG, SG:A and SG1) look really good too
I refuse to read/watch that crap
there are much better books/movies around
now that sounds like a good idea
though I think I'd prefer something like a bus driver or ferry driver job

best thing you could do is sell your tv's, most tv is crap
then just play with your kid, preferably outside. Teach him what you know and go with him as he explores
had so many issues at work with Sarge, probably due to the regular dist-upgrades
I wish I could use something better (like Slackware), but work insists on Debian
such brilliant marketing by DeBeers etc
back when I was a kid I remember it being 1 month of pay
also, what ever happened to those Russkies who were making cheap diamonds by the truck load? I bet they were bought/forced out.
this is the way I'm planning on doing it
sail around the world for a few years (or more).
it can take a month to cross an ocean during which time you are totally self reliant
now, what would be news is if it was fast, low latency and cheap
I am slowly getting my network down to 3 or 4 systems.
currently running i have:
mini-itx server - slackware
p3 600 lappie - slackware
shuttle SN45g - winXP (17" lcd attached)
wrt54gs - openwrt
cheap 16 port rackmount 10/100 switch
plenty of old stuff in the cupboard that will run if power is applied
CentOS
it seems to have the biggest userbase
and it works well
I'll beleive it when I see it
:)
Debian is complete arse, even Redhat is better
ps. Slackware rulez
lets pressure the gov to clean it up
these days I play the Absolute Annihilation mod
http://www.planetannihilation.com/aa/
lots of extra units, patches and balancing makes it the best mod
lolz
:/
the whole reason I hate debian is related to the age of stable, and testing is just not stable enough.
Unfortunately the powers that be at my work haven't woken up to this fact yet
On my own stuff I run slackware
I can see flicker below 75Hz so I run 85Hz on my work crt (I use an LCD at home).
:/
I also have a sensitivy to bright lights. This is why I try to work with the light behind me and have my brightness turned down.
ATM I have a bright light above my desk and it making life impossible, very sore eyes and I've only been at work for 15mins
slackware rulez
that said, one of the 'local' distro's would probably be better for this aplication
you can build them yourself or buy from Dell/IBM/HP/Sun
most support upto 32gb ram
Bytehoard is too buggy for anything other than amateur use
we have moved to phpATM which is also buggy, but less so
there is no perfect distro!
that said I'm a fan of Slackware. Simple, stable, fast, and not 2 years old!
otherwise stick with the big names ie. Redhat or Suse
has got much better in the last year
I am using a budget ISP and I get 24gb on 1500/256 ADSL for AU$80 a month (static ip, no ports blocked, free downloads midnight to 8am).
did 50gb d/l last month
