I guess we should hide because that's what we do best. So, uh... let's see. Roughly 10 million square kilometers and about 30 million people. I don't want to see anyone else within 300 square meters of me!
A much wider array of readily accessible APIs and tools. I'm not sure what you've used for web programming... but md5, encryption, image conversion? These are all readily available in almost any language used for web programming.
Easy-as-pie installers. Last time I tried to create an installer for a windows app, it wasn't quite that easy. Especially if you had library dependencies and other necessary support. As for web apps... what's the last one you had to install instead of just navigating to http://my.webapp.com/ ??
Easy multithreading. To an extent, this is true, but then multithreading is never exactly "easy". Although with AJAX it is possible to create a responsive "multithreaded" application.
Performance Where do DirectX and Java come together, especially when we're trying to compare web apps to desktop apps?? This is the most puzzling point I've seen yet. Most web applications don't even use Java.
I had the same problem with an older wireless router/switch (Linksys BEFW11S4) and my wife's iMac.
I'm not really too concerned about the encryption, since I route everything over a SSH tunnel anyway... but I really don't enjoy having my neighbours using my WiFi. The router has the ability to add a MAC filter, which I use to make sure only authorized connections are allowed.
There's other games out there for linux, such as NWN, UT 2004, Quake 3/4. They all have native linux ports. I have purchased them BECAUSE they have native linux ports.
From my understanding, I wouldn't be putting any data on it either. The real performance boost is on boot. And the code for OS boot isn't written to many times. I would still keep my data on a separate drive.
Excellent reply as well. I remember playing Asheron's Call (Turbine Games) for about a year. I was addicted, but I was also unemployed at the time. I played 16-20 hours a day. I only slept when I was going to pass out, and I literally did pass out at the keyboard a few times. I was trying to be like the higher level guys I saw. Those guys everyone aspires to be. What else is there to look forward to in a game nobody can win? You just want to be at the top.
When I started, I had a serious girlfriend. She kept asking me to get a job, but I was content to sit at home and play a video game. I would ignore her calls so I could keep playing, because I knew I couldn't do anything while we talked. She, rightly so, left me a little while later. Losing my girlfriend put me even deeper into the game. I didn't care about anything else, because I hadn't realized how much she mattered until she was gone. The game let me numb my senses to the real world, it became the only reason I kept going.
Eventually, I got a job. I tried to keep playing, but I couldn't keep up with the "hardcore" guys I used to play with. I had turned into one of the guys we made fun of, because they never equalled our stature. They kept going, and I stopped playing. My passing was not missed. The world kept chugging on, and I was aware of the world for the first time after a long period of doing nothing.
I made a comment this morning about not liking the dixie chicks, but it's all a farce. Ever since I heard their rendition of landslide, I've been hooked.
One of my favourites was when they did the "Air Conditioning vs Windows Down" fuel milage test. The first time, the van with the windows down lost. They decided to do it again, and this time the Air Coniditioned van ran out of fuel first.
Personally, I wouldn't pull much of a conclusion from two test runs where the results varied. Of course, Jamie wanted to believe air conditioning used more fuel, and declared it so.
Needless to say, I don't watch the show anymore. It's 99.9% useless.
I had the same issue. I searched all over for some sort of blacklist plugin for phpbb to fix the issue, because i was just sick and tired of banning all sorts of domains every day. In the end, I ended up changing the website field to "hidden" on new user registration, and if the bots enter text into it... then I throw an error message.
My uncle died of T-cell lymphoma 16 1/2 years ago. The day before my 10th birthday, also the day of my grandparents anniversary. I'm glad our (everyone's) donations have helped enough that others can now survive.
She has responded to the challenge and said there should be at least 5 computers:

I hear they do this at the University of Waterloo mathematics department. They eat pie and have contests to see who can recite the most digits.
Inconceivable!

Just wanted to note this article is a steaming pile of crap.
Maybe it's because you're the only one here who likes myspace?

Done. Now where's that $20 you promised me... ;)

Cool. I added you to my friends... And I went searching for a /. group today and found one. Also cool.
Is there any indication the driver situation will improve with the buyout by AMD?
Enya is a wonderful artist. I thank my great Aunt for introducing me to her music. I listen to many other things as well, and I don't give a crap:

I'm glad someone else pointed this out.
