treat me as if (or even better remind me) im dispensible, and ill certainly hold the same view of my position in your company as you hold of me as an employee.
i know thats how i feel about my current job - and how everyone up the foodchain from me feels with the exception of my immediate superior, and have basically since the first month or two.
MSFT would likely have sold the same number of licenses either way. Keeping intel happy by allowing them to sell less expensive parts as compatible was not directly profit driven - it was keeping a partner happy.
Ergo, this decision did not directly line their pockets. meaning it wasnt exactly thier profit.
additionally, youre a bit of a douchebag - even for the internet.
whats actually surprising is that the profit wasnt exactly theirs. they were allowing intel to continue using the 915 chipset and calling it vista compatible.
its a fark cliche, about something (people, dog, i forget) who ate poison ivy. in the article, there was a comment about how they will be fine 'until the oil hits the anus'
id be curious to see, market wise, if your competition is so bad you can demand a higher price (versus having no competition) for your product because your only competition is so dismal that its clear youre the only person/company who has a clue.
ive used the optical drive in my powerbook a total of 11 times, mostly because i was lazy. once to copy a DVD that dvdshrink didnt like, the full set of band of brothers over a couple airplane trips (could have easily ripped them), one format/restore.
my linux box NEVER uses the optical drive, and i use it in my windows box for dvd backups and games.
id be perfectly happy dropping the optical drive from my powerbook to save some weight. i used to use the empty drive bay modules in my powerbook G3, back when you could swap bay devices out.
its not outdated, i just dont use it anymore on my portables.
you mean like substantially higher sustained transfer rates? built in device to device transfers? better power provision? lower latency?
yea usb2 totally wiped firewire out. dont get me wrong, i dont even use firewire anymore, nothing i have supports it. but to say usb2 is better or even comparable is just ignorant.
Doesn't change the fact that I now own a Wii.... It's not "next gen" any more, because it's on the market now. They aren't still selling *new* PS2s. Whether games are still being made or not is irrelevant. They aren't still making them, therefore it's not still the current generation.
sure they are. its just called the pstwo now. big box stores have them for 129.
and in this specific case in TFA the guy was misclassified.
this was THE direct cause of his assault.
a good lawyer could argue that the state is culpable because this was a forseeable consequence, given the publics irrational fear of harm befalling their children.
if someone breaks into someone elses house, then moves into your neighborhood should they be required to notify you that they have burgled someone in the past?
the scandals of most previous administrations pale in comparison to those of our current leadership.
others are just close. i cant think of one that was worse.

security through obscurity? havent we been over this?
Unless you are have a brain and not work for the Large Corporations and get a job at a small one.
I are have a brain. Where do me sign up?
if comcast can convince the FCC not to bring it before a judge, they most certainly get to interpret the law however they would like.
theres been an outbreak of douchebags on /. recently, ive noticed.
the sdk costs 99$ - not free.

similarly annoying when its a crit rocket - especially when shot blindly or at someone else (ie you walking right into it)
cornering paranoid schizophrenics?

at least not if you want to live.

musical artists make their scratch from concerts, not album sales.

depending on your usage pattern, yes.

That being said, you could always get a MacBook Air. Nothing says "high technology" like a complete lack of an optical drive. ;-)
That being said, you could always get an iMac. Nothing says "high technology" like a complete lack of a floppy drive.
my point is that it is not 'technically' better, it is significantly better in practice and implementation.
usb/usb2 is cheap, and works most of the time.
all the benefit firewire had?

also, what about a beowulf cluster?
cliches are awesome.
oh to have the burden of the undo! i should be so afflicted...
undue burdens on the other hand, those are just not cool.

i would hope they win.
