While MandrakeSoft is a French company, the distribution community has members from all over the world. I'm from Germany, others are from Canada, China, South Africa and other countries. So I wouldn't call mdk a French distribution.
Apple's recent release of an iTunes SDK for Windows provides the ability for third party programs, such as WinAmp and Windows Media Player, to support the AAC file format.
They mean the DRMed AAC format by apple, there have been winamp plugins for the AAC format of the MPEG standards for a long time, even open source (but patented).
Mandrakelinux 10.0 has mono 0.30.1 in the contribs (unsupported part of the distribution), 10.1 Cooker has 0.91. It might move to the main part if there's enough demand by the users.
I've just finished compiling mono beta1 packages for Mandrakelinux 10.1 Cooker. They should be available soon on every Cooker mirror in the contribs directory.
I haven't enabled all experimental features but winelib support is there. I'd like to hear some feedback for it.
Yes, that one might work as well. You'll need to import the keys manually, as that's the only way to ensure encrypted connections. The foundation of the encryption is that you can trust the keys, so the only safe way to exchange the keys is to give it personally, on a data medium. If you have done all the complicated setup steps, you'll have a trusted private network, that's the whole point of this program.
It's really easy to compile Padlock on Mandrake 9.2.
First install libqt3-devel, the QT deveoper package.
Then, call/usr/lib/qt3/bin/qmake and make, that's all.
Don't you remember the Mobilix case? This web site about Unix on mobile computers was sued by the publishers of Asterix, as their name was too similar
to that comic character. They've lost. They had to move the site to Tuxmobil.org.
That's one of the reasons of the "success" of Microsoft operating systems. They have put a lot of work and money in their style-guides.
Maybe, but they don't follow their own style guides,
see windows media player. Skinned interfaces have a bad usability, everybody who as actually read style guides should know that.
What version of xine does Xandros ship with? My xine can play quicktime movies (I guess the author is referring to streams like apple trailers) just fine without additional codecs, you only need the quicktime binaries for the audio tracks.
But the previous releases had some issues with devfs (also default), and it seens that it has changed to "udev" on kernel 2.6. I hope the issues are over.
But Mandrake 10.0 still uses devfsd by default. It includes udev, but the udev support isn't finished yet.
It's also available as packages for all major distributions from here..

Warning: these packages aren't updated anymore, they've been merged into Cooker, which will become 10.1.
The university's admins must hate me for linking my page on /. :-)
I can confirm problems accessing the apple.com trailers, but microsoft.com has no problems. I thought they were using Akamai's services as well?
Yes, that's what I've stated in my post. There has been support for AAC before, but this is for Apple's AAC from itms, not the MPEG standard one.
Oops, that was the old one, the new one is here.
You can directly get the huge version.

Funny but not true: the VB virusses were written in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), or does anybody know a .net virus found in the wild?

Putty for UNIX

Small correction: the mplex program isn't from MPlayer but from mjpegtools.

Knoppix 3.4 has the knoppix26 boot option. It's 2.6 support needs some polishing, e.g. loading the right agp module for hardware accellerated OpenGL.
If you have Mandrake 9.2, it should be possible to install it there as well.
9.2 packages.
Go to Easy Urpmi and add a Cooker contribs source if you don't have one already. Then type urpmi gimp1_3 and you're done.
