Size of a typical pen, uses 3 AAAA batts, made from aircraft aluminum. Fits right in my pocket. I use it every day, change the batts. every 4 months or so.
A friend gave it to me as a present a year and a half or so ago. Best damned flashlight I ever owned. Cracked the LED about 3 months ago, 1 drop of superglue fixed it. (of course the beam scatter is not as even as when brand new, but I can and do live with it) I highly recommend Streamlight products.
...details of this war for the past 72 hours straight.
My guess is that you are watching CNN or ABC. Most of the other networks have been breaking away to regular programming as soon as they can, to enable commercials so they can recoup the monatary losses to their affiliates.
Ala Survivor, or American idol, or even Law and order.
ABC put in an extra effort Friday due to its major screw-up Wednesday when it promised its stations it was going to provide coverage during the 11 o' clock hour on the east coast and then changed it's mind, but didn't bother to tell the stations down the line.
Can you say "several minutes in black" on the east coast?
I work for an NBC station so I just happen to know this...
Bug me if you want the ratings or NBC plans in advance. I will provide this information to my Slashdot friends if there is enough demand.
My opinion is that you all have the right to say what you want.
My opinion is that when I was in the military I was willing to lay down my life so that you could say what you want.
My opinion is that I don't always agree with my leaders.
My opinion is that we should support the troops who don't have a choice in what happens when they are called to duty.
My opinion is that America has a lot to answer for in its foreign policy.
My opinion is that we should give our leaders the chance to make it right in this time of crisis.
My opinion is that we as a nation should never, ever treat the soldiers with the disrespect that the Vietnam vets got when they came back.
My opinion is that we all should pray for a brief war.
That's my opinion.

Give me a break, I have been looking at the issues from as many sides as I can. Who do you suggest I get my news from, Al Jezzera?
Seriously, NBC has been doing a very good job so far with FOX running a surprisingly good second place. (Until they broke off for Survivor and American idol, that is) NBC kept that poor guy Brian Williams on the air so long that he was starting to act punch-drunk on the air. I was happy when they switched over to MSNBC anchors at 9:30PM Pacific Time. The NBC station where I work dumped all of its programming and commercials until Thursday morning. (That is a lot of money we will not get) just to provide war coverage. If you think we are making money off of this war, you are wrong.
The first shot at commercials will come with the Today show early morning Thursday (only if they decide to run commercial breaks), guess who are the only sponsors who are willing to pay for commercials in that case? The answer is the movie studios! (I kid you not.) The current crop of movies are going to be released, War or no War.

Interestingly enough the news agencies expected a massive strike like in the beginning of the first gulf war, if that had happened it would not have mattered which direction the cameras were facing. Also notice that their are several live cameras placed about the area, I found that suprising myself. There will be more footage available as soon as the regular (tape based) camera crews figure out how to smuggle the footage out of Bagdad. Be patient, there will be lots of amazing video to come. This will be the most televised war in history.
One thing I would point out is that there is very little chance of recovering DNA from these samples, Correct me if I am wrong (I'm sure that will happen:) ) but organic matter would not stand a chance against the vacuum and radiation involved here.
1. An Acer keyboard, (Model 6512, Circa 1994) I am typing on it right now. This thing is built like a brick and I happened on it when by workplace gave away all the pre-Y2K computers to the employees. Much stronger than an old IBM keyboard and built to last. It just happens to have an ATX plug on it. When I snapped a Ctrl key on a much more modern keyboard playing a game, I picked this thing up off the pile of old equipment because it was the only thing that would work with my modern computer. I still am using it to this day even though it has major grunge problems. It still shows no signs of wear.
2. Packard Bell monitors, These things are tough and again, built to last. 17" 1024x768 and still works great! I finally gave it up only because I was getting fragged because of the low resolution. I plan on using it for my Linux server down the road.
My point is that these items were used when I got them, did yoeman's service while I used (still use) them and will be around for a long, long time.
I don't consider having a "Windows" button a reason to give up my keyboard. Sure, it has a Num-lock light that will not shut off (Due to an incompatability with modern motherboards) but other than that it is very solid.
I have to chime in here and say that if you are trying to develop a game you should first look to modding some of the great games available now. Never mind the fact that you are not going to make a penny off of the licensed engine, the idea is to prove what you are able to do with the right tools. I find the premise that you need the big bucks to develop a good game laughable. There are many 2-3 person teams that are proving what they can do using the free tools provided by the savvy developers, Id started it with allowing map creation in DoomII, Valve and even the much maligned EA have continued the tradition to this day. Unreal Tournament is an excellent example. Even better is Battlefield 1942. I was looking at at a conversion called Desert Eagle which is a total upgrade from a WWII based game to a current military simulator using the latest technology available to American armed forces. Please don't hand me the line that the glass ceiling is in place to wannabe newcomers. That is bullshit. Prove to the world using free tools that you are worthy and the publishers will beat a path to your door.
Thank you, That was the kindest reply I have found yet on/. I really hope there are more people that are willing to be as positive as you on this forum. I have constantly run into a wall of hate and mod the motherfu*kers down because they don't know any better.
You a are a breath of fresh air. You are willing to teach rather than drag somebody down into a slime pool of "getting even with the people that don't know"
I really appreciate this.
I will try your suggestion at the first chance I get.
The ensuing mess encouraged me not to try it again. (Nothing ruins the meal more than cleaning up a half-cooked pancake off the floor)
If these guys can come up with some sort of mess free "practice pancake" kit with detailed instructions that can be read without a degree in math. I would be very interested.
One thing I would be very worried about is the potential of government sponsored software to abuse my box. I can think up a number of nasty scenerios. I can already hear the tech support call: "I installed your lottery software on my machine and none of my applications run anymore, I keep getting these advertisements for the lottery when I try to access my system folder, and worst of all the uninstall program won't even run at all." Then the single tech support person says: "Oh that is no problem, just format your hard drive and call Microsoft for support after that"

As far as I know, it is not illegal to receive any transmission in the United States. Decoding it is a whole separate ballgame.

One more thing, You will notice that URT and Battlefield 1942 also offer Linux servers because they understand the value of open sourcing.
Methinks the whiners out there should spend their time in helping convince the big publishers that it is money well spent.

Excellent post!
Good job!
You have a very good point.
Kudos!
I tried flipping a pancake, Once.

I was not talking about intentionally malignant software. I was referring to buggy code bought from the lowest bidder.
I am not at all worried about government software, after all they are big users of Windows. How secure can you get?
"I can think of ZERO..." Sums your flame up nicely.
Fricking Awesome!
Reminds me a lot of Heavy Metal.
Kudo's to the animation studios for going out on a limb like this.
I was having flashbacks just watching the graphics in the first twenty seconds of the first episode!
I just finished downloading the second episode, However my sound system decided to crap out on me, so I have to do the reboot thing.
Thank you, Mr. Gates. May I have another?

Thank you for the correction.
Serious Sam is one of the best engines out there.
I totally agree.
..merged with the Hexen/Heretic code...
:)
Now those were some great mods.
Really?
I invite you to check out Subspace.
A game that plays well over a 28.8 Modem and after being dropped by the publisher it still remains active today.
I still play it.
I think your theory needs a reality check.
I agree with your premise.
I remember this as well, I can tell you that what the military is playing with today knocks the present day games into five years ago.
Trust me, the American military is no slouch.
(OK. Perhaps the resolution is not so good, but the depth and the tactics are the best in the world)
Fellow vets will back me up on this.
