    Huh, what do you mean? Canada is part of North America last time I checked, and is a member of AAMVA and have been for a long time.

    The Atari 5200 Supersystem was named for its part number in the Atari catalog, CX5200. Following this trend, Atari renamed the VCS the 2600.

    It was called the Atari VCS until the 5200 came out...and the 7800 is just a continuation of the 2600 mulitples

    yeah I'm sure they were aware of it, this story/situation is just the "wrap-up" piece to this marketing gimmick, just the last drop squeezed out of this campaign.

    Most fansub groups cease distribution of a given series as soon as it's licensed for production in the US.

    Yes, because somehow, the fansub group has complete dominion over the internet and with a wave of its hand can stop all file trading.

    Hard to argue that you're costing a company sales when they arent providing that product.

    *Announcement* New torrents available online of all major US film releases (with swahili subtitles), no problem!!!! Just remember to get rid of them (or buy it again if you purchased a fansub DVD instead of downloading) once the studio makes the official version. No Problems!

    They are bootlegs, regardless of the attempts at justification or the "honor system" that repeatedly gets mentioned. Fans have had it easy and some free rides for a long time, looks like that party may be ending....

    I'd have to say that it had the opposite effect for me, my eyes glazed over with a joyful sparkle. At that point I knew I had to see where they were going with it.

    But that being said I agree with your point, and I'm not a big Bush fan myself.

    So are they using "FORTRAN" as a adjective replacing "crappy" and then whipped up an article that has been covered in about 5,000 different programming books and/or documentation regarding some largely accepted guidelines for writing clean, manageable and efficient code?

    what article are you talking about? The one I linked to or the the article linked in the main story? I can't find what you are referring to in either, unless the babelfish translation is THAT bad

    ....besides, I'm really just stating that having a hot-potato such as Chavez be a "spokesperson" or "example" for the use of OSS, probably ain't all that hot on many levels. The editorial linked to just gave some examples of some policies or actions that might put a cloud over the "OSS victory" and can be used against already cloudy public perception of OSS/Linux/et.al

    I was just going to post the same thing, Chavez is busting down hard on any dissent or anyone that doesn't meet him on the political scale. So great for open source, but is "OSS: Used by the Chavez Administration" a good thing to have out there?

    adblock is a very good "selling point" and a jump off point for people to realize that there are scores of plugins available. That instills a feeling of confidence, in that, "if it doesn't have it, I or someone else can make it" Its enabling and gives a sense of having more control(which it does..)

    MS is catching up in some areas, but firefox is leading on the tech side.

    Copyright infringement != stealing. Somehow I doubt going to a music store and walking out with several albums is going to land you in as much debt as an RIAA lawsuit.

    Which is precisely why I had mentioned that the RIAA is heavy handed. And stating that its really just "copyight infringement" just obscures what is going on even worse.

    I hear ya...but..

    Will Blu-ray Discs require a cartridge?

    No, with the added support for "no-cartridge" usage to the Blu-ray Disc specification it currently looks like the cartridge will be optional, but we still haven't heard of any definitive decision about this issue. There is research going on to hard-coat the surface to protect the discs from dust and fingerprints without requiring a cartridge, which looks very promising. By making the cartridge optional manufacturers will be able to downsize drives for PC usage and lower their media production costs.

    Emphasis mine above...From their FAQ, laso if you look at some of the other media images there, they all don't have the cartridge shell on them.

    thats a good idea, and I was thinking that too, but they'll find way to fill those discs with crapola and fluff. Also that would require alot more work on the developers to code a redundant data lookup.

    Once the sale is made, they (the developers/distributors) are out of the loop as wear and tear aren't usually covered by any warranty. Sure you can bring it back to where you brought it and make a big stink I suppose...

    I've never had that problem either (with my own DVDs), that is if you never loan anything out.

    But I do have many problems with rentals both games and movies on DVD, nothing sucks worse than watching a movie and 3/4 the way through it locks, or have a game freak out.... thats why I check em before I leave the blockbuster/video scene/mom and pop shop

    ...to the consumer or is Sony just going to absorb it like most console makers do? Will this drive up the price per game? Also, since you are packing ALOT more data is the same space, wouldn't scratches and surface damage be even more crippling potentially?

    Also, Sony should make sure that they don't have all the "Disc read error" problems this time through.
