I've used Putty now and again, but I know alot of others that do use it on a daily basis...so its always assuring that the devs have a quick turn around on fixes (especially with free software), that kind of dedication is appreciated
The United States considers itself the centre of technological innovation, yet South Korea has gone considerably further in making a mainstream reality out of the futuristic promises of bygone dot-com days.
Thats because they don't have Comcast/Cablevision/TimeWarner controlling it, trying to cap bandwidth and milk every penny it can out of its users. I STFA (scanned..TFA), did it mention what this exceptional service costs over there? They talked about what the government put out to make this infastructure happen.. but what does Joe Blow have to pay to get it? LOL Their "so-so" connection in APARTMENTS are 8 times faster than the best we have...
The number in the email provided by "Michelle" doesn't show a Sal or Michelle, but maybe the guy that does show is worth checking into by police, since he did call that number and speak to someone there.
Isn't this game projected to be released on PS2, XBox, or GameCube? This would cost $100-$150, cheaper if bought used.
XBox for sure, ported by Vicarious Visions The release date for that one was beginning of October IIRC. I'm looking forward to the game, and I do need a PC upgrade, but I may wait for XBox version
that was the same exact thought I had when I read the headline..."JUST LET IT DIE!"
It had its time, now let it die gracefully. Its like when 80's bands try to make a comeback, we had great memories of THEN (LOL if you are in my age range), don't tarnish them for trying to cash in NOW. Please...

The whole Hitler/Bush thing is disgusting. Those that truly believe there's a comparison are ignorant at best.
LMAO, yes, the ads are in bad taste, but you make it sound as if MoveOn MADE those commercials.
They were submitted to one of their ad contests. As a submission it was available for viewing. Just like the stuff over on ifilm and sites like that. It was submitted for consideration.
That would be the same as holding slashdot accountable for GNAA posts and our lost beloved goatse.cx posts. Or holding slashdot accountable for some maniac ranting and opinion that occurs in these threads (not that it ever happens LOL)
you make a great point, but I have a Defender LCD "keychain" style game that plays just fine with a tiny directional pad and 4 tiny buttons, the whole game is only about 3" long by 1" wide, yeah the gameplay isn't quite the same as the arcade, but its still close enough
What are PC's up to currently? ~4Ghz? Has the low RAM prices been off-putting since they cracked down on the RAM price gouging years and years ago? Seriously, what the hell are you using all your CPU cycles for then, that you can't spare any?
Running a render farm? Calculating protein in DNA strands? If you are, you are already most likely running a streamlined optomized setup, so you wouldn't even consider this....but for the average schmuck....?
Genesis is backwards compatable with the SMS Powerbase add-on
SNES had "Innovation Super 8" which would let you play NES on SNES.
Super Nintendo has Super Game Boy so thats kinda "sideways compatable". Same deal with GBA player on GameCube
Which is also along the lines of Colecovisions' Atari 2600 game converter.
Unless you were talking purely base hardware.
Atari 7800 was directly compatable with Atari 2600 games, except those which had proprietary chips in them (Pitfall 2 for example, IIRC) which were few and far between.
I'll second that, the DC had a great library of games, even from the get-go, but everyone has their own opinions. I still play my DC as much as my XBOX or GameCube.
and for my sins I have a copy of 'Being Digital' on my bookshelf.
LOL we just did our semiannual "clean and dust off the bookshelves" event, and I too have that book and thought it may be fun to re-read it NOW and see whats what.
wtf is wrong with that? so companies offer a discount for buying more goods/services, so what? hell, that's the basis for Sam's Club, Costco, etc. oh but a cable/phone service provider gives a discount for buying an extra service and its some kind of discrimination? heh, what a bunch of fucking whining commies
No one said it doesn't make business sense, we were talking about how the ruling is toothless and a real world example is Comcast, brainiac.

Sorry to go all Capt. Caveman on ya, but I just signed in and the upgrade is already there. I've been using my yahoo acct for years now, so I had the ol' 6MB limit, and its pretty damn good for a free web based email...but all this extra space is a real good thing. I like it in that I don't have to go sign up elsewhere and don't have to tell everyone my new email address
dangers of storing personal information on computers are growing by the day, security experts say
Which is directly proportional to the growth of access and availability to PCs worldwide, and the danger is not growing, stolen passwords are stolen passwords, today or 5 years ago. And the "hacks" they speak of have been around
In an ideal world, this question should answer itself. The problems are simple, how many servers? You don't want to buy and implement 200 servers, when the game turns out to be received luke-warmly (LOL luke-warmly) it can easily turn into a huge time/resource waste. But if you don't have enough servers to meet demand, people get pissy quick and write off trying to play. Maybe they'll come back when you have more servers, maybe not.
Another poster had a great suggestion to allow the server software to be released, which seems like an easy answer as well. But, what will it take, 2 days before a hacked server first appears, then you opening up your customers to an experience that is out of your control and usually unpleasant. They would have to have some serious code verification to validate the server code when clients connect to make sure everything is (still) on the up and up.
Ideally yes, they should host the servers, but it would be with alot of risk
No, the pirates have a blatant disregard of the infrastructure by keeping running insecure, unpatched software. Microsoft should not be held responsible for pirates who illegally run unlicensed software.
I agree, here it comes... BUT....when your product is as market saturated as MS Windows, and you have fixes available but make them unavailable to "illegals" you are willingly letting a bad situation get worse and worse. Not allowing patches they are in essence perpetuating the headaches that ultimately is caused by their code faults.
They get smeared in the media enough, but willingly withholding fixes from a potentially LARGE number of machines (paid for or no) sends a strong message to the public, "if you don't pay, we don't care..." and again as market desktop leader, thats not a particularly good image to project.
No, MS should not be held responsible for unlicensed software usage, but in actuality they are.

Erm....yeah...uh...this is Sal, yeah, Sal!
But sometimes the squeaky wheel gets a smack with a ball-peen hammer, which seems to be the case around these parts.

right on! Just like comcast/cable modem bundle pricing....if you want JUST the cable modem the price is jacked.
