You were modded "Funny", but I would have modded you "insightful". I was a faithful TomsHardware reader(back in the Quake days, even), and the page has grown so disgustingly difficult to navigate, that I just don't bother anymore.
Today I visited them again, just to see if things have improved, and I gave up at by the 3rd page. It's ridiculous.
I remember being able to study and read books in high school while blasting Metallica through my headphones. Now, at 27, I can't seem to concentrate on anything without total silence.
I'm no marketing genius, but who the hell thought domain names like meat.com and milk.com were going to be goldmines?!?
Not just that, they have apparently grabbed all those ".com keywords" for other foreign languages. It's pretty clear, because you visit the spanish equivalent, and it's full of english ads.
"I kind of guessed that some geek way back bought the domain name thinking it would be worth millions, then in the end used it for a company cause it was cool to have a generic domain."
What? No! The Opera Browser used to be hosted at www.operasoftware.com , that's where I used to get it from for years.
Being forgetful, I did visit www.opera.com expecting to find the browser, but it was just a parked domain name.
So sometime in the past couple of years, they must have realized opera.com was worth buying. And it must have been - even after I had been using the browser for years, I still erroneously visited opera.com, only to find a generic ad page.
For sure. Microsoft's hardware, I admit, has always been good to me. Sidewinder controllers were great, and (dare I say it) the Zune is a solid(if ugly) machine. I have MS mice from the first generation of optical releases that work flawlessly still.
It's just that their games division is not up to tempo.
NO! Don't be a pawn! Do not wait for these wars to be over! You are essential to success! Be a soldier, mister! Drop down and give me 20 (dollars) for your old movies that you had to buy again!
Only YOU can decide who wins this war!
- This message brought to you by the MPAA. Buy more movies plz k thx bye
The problem with all this information is that you don't know who is behind it, and who is controlling it.
It's a big disappointment to me how the USA has gone on from a sort of example for the rest of the world, to becoming more and more like Russia in the 80's.
Actually, there's a conspiracy theory that says that Coke designed this whole campaign because they wanted to switch ingredients in the traditional Coke, and the taste wasn't exactly the same.
So they release New Coke, people get angry over "It doesn't taste good!", they go back to the old packaging with the new ingredients, and people go "Yay!".
Sorry, this just disappoints me so much, that the one time world power that represented freedom and was a beacon for what the rest of the world aspired to become, has sunk down to these sort of horrible government controls.
Laws are meant for the good of the people, I think this crosses the line.
This story also appeared on Digg a few hours earlier. I know there's a place for both, but would it be too much to ask that Slashdot at least has different headlines for the same story and writeup?

How does age work into it?

I may be modded down, but I always said Apple didn't "get it" when it came to online sales. Amazon is doing a much better offering with this.

That's a pretty American response. "Don't get political", Don't get involved, don't do anything.
Contrary to you, I think it's great that they're expounding their ideas and their reasons for their actions, instead of just being anonymous.
I may not agree with their ideas, but they should have a right to speak them wherever they want.
Hey, *Americans* may come from apes, the rest of the world evolved from hominids ;)
(yes, yes I know... It's just a joke http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hominid )
Nothing, they can "return" the domain within a week without payment.
Plus, it only costs them pennies to register a domain.
"[1] It did look good, though, I'll give it that. Perfect for the exec who chooses his PA on *bust size* rather than on organisational skills."
ie ALL of them! This is why MS is number 1, people, get with the program.
"But Warner got their greasing, and every consumer is going to pay for it."
What? Not at all. I, for one, will definitely sit this one out. Let others pay for overpriced movies we bought 10 years ago.
What?

Because swindling a lot of people leads to very real consequences (ie revolution), and that's not kosher for the government.
In 2nd life, you got, what, some angry nerds who can't really do anything about it?
They've been trying to kill it since 1980, so I suppose this article is just a progress report.

Agreed. This is just about that stupid movie.
Are you sure you don't need an extra interrogation point there?
I think Terry Prattchet wants a word with you.
I see you couldn't do much better than "KevinKnSC" either ;)
That's funny. Nerds think you're lazy and dumb if you don't know anything about computers. Interesting, how that works!

Even so, it would be a good idea to note why your pages undert IE might look broken. Otherwise, I've noticed people just blame your coding.
US has officially jumped the shark.

I'm not american but from the episodes I saw of "America's funniest home videos", was't it pretty much "Ow! My Balls!" ?
Alternately, you could just dial a random video in Youtube...

It's just bizarre.
"picking a new video game setting even is a much more complicated task"
;)
Is it, really?
