Glad to see that "nother" still isn't a word, and that "irregardless" brings up the definition for "regardless" with a wikipedia entry explaining that "irregardless" is considered incorrect.
This was barely science fiction.. you could make the exact same movie without the aliens and spaceship. Nothing that was good about this movie had anything to do with science fiction, and the aliens themselves had NOTHING to do with science. I was terribly disappointed with these creatures which may as well have been mutants for their similarity to humans. The effects were, of course, astounding, but otherwise the movie was sorely disappointing.
Moon is a much, much better science fiction movie.
Anyone remember when A&E had quality programming, and TLC stood for "The Learning Channel" ? Really PBS is the only game in town these days as Discovery has gone the way of fabrication and "monster mega ultra" shows.
Hell in a hand basket my friends, hell in a hand basket.
His article should be titled Yet Another Long, Rambling Diatribe on Why I Left WoW or, YALRDoWILWoW
What I find most amusing is that WoW is like the perfect analogy for life itself. You put in hours and hours of grinding for the occasional new toy or promotion which opens the door for you to.. grind to the next new toy, and in the end it doesn't mean jack... and then you die. It's no different from any other job, hobby, whatever. How many marriages have been "ruined" by a man's fancy for restoring old automobiles? How many hours a week do you spend playing guitar or working out (if you're not a WoW "addict")? What makes any of these things any more valid than the time you spend in-game?
And yet some people treat this man's self-justification as some kind of revelation. Just do what makes you happy. It's really not that hard.
How did this/. article get posted? It seems to have been submitted by the same author of the page. The guy is arrogant and self righteous. His writing is wordy and asinine and, well, he just sounds more like some kind of "I'm right and you're wrong because I say so" politician than anyone who's actually pondered the depths of existence. In fact it reminds me a lot of the writings of religious types for organisations like The American Heritage Foundation and entirely fictitious Pro-Life American Consumerist Peon Weekly.

Truly sad this passed through. Unless it's meant to be a joke, in which case- I just don't get it.
I don't know, I would consider advertising the after-rebate price in 150pt font, and the note advising you that's only after a mail-in rebate 1/75th that size. You say, "Wow! A hard-drive for $29.99! Deal!" Take it to the counter and suddenly it's $75. "Oh, sorry, didn't you see? That price is only after a mail-in rebate. Would you like to purchase the product anyway?"
Not everyone has the time, interest, or desire to RTFM. Nor should anyone be expected to when dealing with how and when to spend their precious dollar bills. Really, those kind of rebates should be between the manufacturer and the seller. I think the mark-up should include that kind of convenience.
In the end I guess I agree that it's not my most hated marketing ploy, since, to me, all marketing tactics are equally worthy of my animosity.
Is there a point to these..

That's not really the point. When you download and execute an autopackage, it will download and install the latest version of the autopackage software.
I generally advocate raising hell in issues like this. Especially on college and university campuses -- the corner stones of any good hell-raising movement. Shove the issue down their censorous throats and show them how without merit it is.
An idea might be to make the issue public on campus, and advocate the over-use of the service for legal purposes: i.e. on wednesdays everyone downloads a linux ISO or five, on thursdays they pilfer legal torrent sites for independant music, short films, and the like. Combine that with the information on what legal options you have for forcing your net access back (particularly from the "How Unfortunate" thread, among others), and you have a powerful weapon.
It's not just hip to hate scientology, scientology brought it on itself by being a cult of mind control and rediculous stories designed to steal the money of unwitting inquiring minds. The scientology website is the LAST place I would look for actual, factual information. It's propaganda, and that's all.
I've not only been to the website (btw anyone who makes a "personal commitment" would do well to save a lot of time and mental anguish and just give your money to a worthwhile cause like a charity, then jump off a bridge), but I've been in to the church and talked to the people. L. Ron was psychotic, and his drove of sheep are just as out to lunch.
Come for the free personality test, stay for the fact that you've pledged your life savings to asininely priced books and tests which break down to really sub-par sci fi, at best.
As a Shaw customer, I'm used to seeing my bit torrent downloads throttled lately.. However, when connecting up with torrents from one of these sites, the speed was back up to where it should be. Is Shaw perhaps filtering out specific good torrent sites from their bandwidth limiter?
What's most upsetting is that downloading a release of Ubuntu is still intolerably slow.
I really don't like where this is going. Is my only choice for a decent high-speed ISP (Rogers, why did you leave us to these east-coast animals?) is deciding what websites I can use effectively?
Can we please stop calling everything we don't understand Dark Matter? Dark matter hasn't been proven to exist, k? It's never been seen or detected, k? There are other, perfectly viable explanations, k? There are working models based on actual, real, usable data (read: not "elegant mathmatics") that show that dark matter is unnecessary to explain the motions of galaxies. We just have to accept that maybe, just maybe, gravity isn't the defining force on a galactical scale.
That's the worst. How many people have a use for the domain that is your name? My own domain was near expiration when I received an e-mail from a hijacker offering to sell it to me for 10x what it would cost normally.
I guess he jumped the gun or something, because I was able to renew the domain through my ISP anyway. It was probably a domain transfer scheme. Had I let it expire, though, I have no doubt that he would have picked it up and probably upped the price even more.
Not to be a bitch to a bitch, but sometimes e-mail addresses go defunct and one doesn't think to update the domain record because one doesn't realise that one needs that particular e-mail address to renew an expired domain. How many people have stopped using the e-mail address on their domain record because it was inundated with spam, or just registered with a temporary address? What happens if your e-mail address goes bad (i.e. a former free web email service decides to start charging, or an ISP goes under, or in a fit of rage you cancel all association with your ISP) and you forget your domain password? There are ways around it, but unless you've had to deal with it before, most people won't know what to do.
There's a point you're completely missing here: If someone stole my TV or car, I wouldn't have one anymore. He copied the software. It's more akin to photocopying out of a book than theft.
Please try to be objective, or at least think before you open your mouth.

Maybe now I can finally tell them to permanently delete my account from the databases. Maybe? I hope so..

Good luck mate. Give 'em hell.
Installs fine in Ubuntu (hoary preview here) too. I didn't even notice it until I went to read a PDF through google the other day, hehehe.

Hey, when you've dealt with Scientologists, nothing comes as a surprise and the absurd has to be taken at face value. :)

It must have been a while since you checked. I'm running gaim 1.1.4 in windows and linux, both using gaim-encryption 2.35.
