    Didn't one of them have a cellphone that docked in a laptop chassis that never made it to market. The cellphone that can dock and become more is a good idea but the hardware hasn't been ready, it probably still isn't but it's a lot closer.

    I used to live in a place where I had to park on the road and had multiple legally parked vehicles hit by people texting while driving. I have never been in an accident that didn't involve someone else on a cell phone and I have been driving since the 80s. I did have what I can only assume must have been drunk driver hit and run my car in the middle of the night they also hit a neighbors house and took down some fencing all along my road.

    Isn't it already legal in Nevada?

    I have no idea how the locals see it or what regulation there is but wouldn't that be a place to look at what works and what doesn't?

When ever there is an opportunity for profit someone will find a way leaving them an easy in is going to do more damage than any supposed good and very possibly any abuse of power. $16 billion to identity theft in the US alone last year they need to be finding ways to make encryption more secure.

  7. More than liberty, because weakening encryption doesn't just allow warrants to get data it also leaves an opening for those criminal organizations they are so worried about.

    You can't secure a house by leaving the back door unlocked and law enforcement should know that. I think it would do more damage when exploited than any good they might intend.

  8. I think you missed something, those different versions of the same OS tend to have different features. Features that they have to develop that a home consumer would rather not pay the development costs.

  12. Doesn't California have like the 3rd highest cost of living for US and silicon valley being the highest part in the state. $50k would be an Ok wage for the mid-west where the median household income is around $45-55k depending on which state and housing is cheap.

    You were hired for a lower paying position because they felt you weren't qualified enough for the position you applied and then had you doing it anyway for less pay because your title was still something else.

    This is standard practice.

    Damaging winds, thunderstorms, snow, tornadoes, and damaging hail are all common in my area and a large solar install would be prone to taking damage. Wind on the other hand would do very well so long as you could easily secure the turbine for times of extreme weather.

    I would imagine they could provide power to the minimum critical areas for a short time in the event of generator failure or a late fuel shipment.

  17. IT jobs in my area of the US are far and few but the number of people with degrees working in other fields is staggering. I've not kept in close contact with everyone I went to college with but of those that I do keep in touch with none actually work in a tech related field. My brother has a cs degree and does maintenance for the local school district.

    People sometime ask why I've stuck in my position for so long because there is no real opportunity for advancement. It's not that I don't get offers it's that they want me to relocate and for barely over what I currently make into areas with a much higher cost of living.

    We already have something similar to this in all our offices it's not new. You do have to pay with card there is no cash option.

    I would imagine that offices and in door public places would be where they launch. Their example in tfa was a college dorm.

  21. My 4s works just fine but I'm not a fan boi, there is no way I would pay for an iphone the company got it for me and I'll use it until it breaks because like many companies they have gone byod.

    Well as someone that really isn't that sold on man made global warming mostly because of the techniques used to fill in statistical data sets. Remember they are trying to fill in gaps of information that just wasn't measured the thermometer was invented in the early 1700s and was no where near as accurate as todays thermometer. Using a world wide statistical model to predict climate change requires a lot more data than what we have actually measured. We know that the earth was much colder and much warmer in the past and the only thing we know for certain is that it is likely to get much warmer before it gets much colder again.

    That being said I'm all for cleaner, safer, more efficient, and cheaper forms of energy and production. I also think that it should be a priority because you are correct regardless the pollution we are creating now will cause problems even if it's not related to global warming.

    I don't think I ever remember opera crashing on me except on pages with malicious content browser high jackers, pop unders, full screen pop ups, and the like turning scripting off was easy and took care of that though it didn't have an exception list it was just a checkbox on a menu that you could switch off and on.

    The new opera may as well be chrome.

    I've looked at vivaldi and am waiting for it to get a little more mature now that it has a fairly standard set of features I'm hoping it will get faster and more stable and that it does something that will differentiate it from the rest.

    I used to use opera because it had tabs when others didn't, handled pop ups better, and it was so much faster than any other browser. Now it's just like chrome and safari for speed and everyone has tabs, pop up, and ad blockers now.
