    Yes, in your analysis cross liscencing is bad. I agree. I was meaning in the more general sense of scummy business practices that companies who have acquired patents and are using them as weapons are dangerous because they can't cross-liscence but only destroy.

    "Cross-liscencing" is fine and dandy. Where this case, the kodak case, and a few others suck is that there is nothing they want from companies other than money. They came into owning a patent and now are using it as a weapon without actual work put into it minus a few thousand dollars it cost to buy the thing in the first place.

    Did they fix that bug? You know, the one when you loaded KDE your computer got real slow?

    All kidding aside I am really looking foward to KDE 4. Dropping artsd, the new QT widgets (which I know are not qt but deal) which will have much more .Net / J2EE style connectivity and functionality (I think they were branded data aware). Just want to know how much longer until I can get a fully working win32 binary release so I can drop explorer.exe but keep my win32 apps (such as virtual dub).

    Does the PC sell include workstations? I have been looking for information but all I hear is PC. The loss of the Thinkpad is terible though, IBM was the only comany I know that made a damn decent laptop which would physically last more than 3 years.

    The Campus network services at a Jr. College I went to a few years ago: "Yes we do know our ass from a router."

    This of course was after a quick nmap found everything running telnet. Which was also running without a password. Turn dhcp off on a few of those babies and somone has to work a Looonng night.

    We have a one party system if anyone has noticed. The current political atmosphere, the bitterness in the media between the sides is a clever ploy to move the population as a whole. Now we have a system where you can do one thing and accuratly predict the behavior of 90% of the people. For example, the GoP says something is bad the DNC will say it is good. This follows down to the dittoheads.

    Further more, why do we have the electorate almost evenly split? It could be that both candidates and policies are so aligned that the population is simply guessing, which averages out to 50/50 with suble varioations depending on date, mood, the location of UFO's overhead etc.

    This is all conspiracy theory and ass blown conclusions (aka my opinion) so take it for what you will.

    I didn't vote for either candidate and did for for Badnarik for the reasons you cite. If one were to remove the war from the equation Bush and Kerry are on the same EFFECTIVE side of every issue. Meaning that they both have allowed the same policies to come thgough, Bush mostly by action and Kerry mostly by inaction.

    I have the opposite problem, people keep putting signs UP in my yard. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact the candidate they are pushing I really don't like on a personal level. So far II have a stack of 3 in my garage and a new one pops up every 2 - 3 days.

    It happens sometimes dude. MY weekend experience was finding what ammounted to the bug in this line of code

    }

    It was particularly bad because it worked most of the times and was showing up as if it were an error in another block of code entirely.

    While I agree assisted suicide should be allowed under terminal conditions (ie die with dignity), some times giving consent is proof you are not fit to give consent.

    That was what a German court ruled when a man ate his lover earlier last year.

    Indeed. How are people supposed to take Linux seriously when a very large (and very vocal) linux-friendly community uses such childish imagery to describe their competitors. If you go on microsoft.com, they don't call linux "linsux" and have pictures of tux fucking a hooker.

    That is because one of these entities is a corporaion and the other is a community.

    We went to 2k3 around the time it was released. The response around the office is more or less, "Fuck chevy this thing's a rock".

    Fot shits and giggles we put it on a pentium 2 300 laptop with 300MB of ram, it was stable, fast, and useful. In all honesty it is a great prduct and a worthy successor to 2k.

    Portage is better than urpmi because anyone can make an ebuild that works with the tree which requires no though for what the person has on their system. For example, if I want to use the video preview of KDE in a portage system I pass it a flag when I install. If I want to use a rpm based distro I woul dhave to grab the tar balls, grab the xine-dev rpm for my version of linux, futz with the makefiles so everything points in the right direction, then compile.

    If you look for it you will find many questionable games that noone really knows where they came from.

    For example, Somario is a cross between sonic the hedgehog and mario and runs on Nes emulators.

    There are also fighting game rom hacks of TMNT TF that give you a Smash Brothers game. Plus there is a SuperMario world Hack complete with horizontal/vertical scrolling (supposedly I have never been able to get the rom to run).

    Also a Kings Quest V rom I never got my hands on. If you look there are plenty of curiosities.

    This is similar to the cr industry in the late 20's-early 30's and the rail road industry. Both of them commoditized and competed themselves into fewer companies until the last ones left were profitable.

    There never was a reason to buy a celeron. By the time intel got around to PUTTING A CACHE in it the Athlon was out, at the same price point, and beating the living dogshit out of it.
