    I am not sure of the rules that lawyers follow by, but he may loose his licence to practice law, doing silly things like that. Obviously he's not a good lawyer and has no reputation to loose. Law degree/licence he earned during his best years of his life - no returns invesment can be lost forever.

    3G promises 2Mb/s , this phone does 128kbps. as in this article, this is a hoax, this is 2.5G phone. Once 2Mb/s is here, then put 3G sticker on it.

    except this one is more insidous. it like to exploit young people paying them little money, and driving their talent with bag of same cheap tricks - ego boost, caffeine and few shiny toys. upon signing up with EA you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, extended kind, where company can record you on camera anywhere, tape you conversations over phone and use collected inforamtion in any way it pleases. i know a few people here in vancouver, that have been with EA. many projects are delayed when managers can't choose which color tshirt of characters are and wether horizon should be more of a pinkish tinge then blue. all in all its just another corporation wanting to make alot of money. due to the fact tha t it is very hard to make games in timelines given and only those of ages 16-25 are suited for jobs...

    its like OT, but blatant promotion of the book and products it describes here without even mentioning competition, mad me spin on my own chair. Zope another alternative to commercial servers written in clean language python that does not treat programmer as malignant influence(as Java does), yet takes best from many languages, including Java and Perl. Zope can be load balanced and attached to many databases(easily!), and it even comes with its own database(plugged in), that is optimized for reading.I suggest you do your shopping first on the web, before buying into megamonster contracts with those companies, check out free alternatives.

    JBoss others have mentioned is available if you are really stuck on Java language.

    However difficulty is to have errorless communication, or bufferable communication with channels to allow for burstable data so that caches can be repopulated, if they are got depleted due to some errors.having like 30seconds of cache is good idea, esp. when seconds of broadcast time cost thousands of dollars/pounds.
    Same way that analog phones are great... and technology too, you might loose signal, but not a call. If you have too many errors on digital stream, call is dropped. What happens if there is some sort of ionization in atmosphere? ... for one thing I think emergency channels should stay
    analog and use vacuum tube electronics.
    If we had uncompressed digital, it would be just as good as analog, however it is too expensive(not dollar). Error correction in MPEG streams is rather bad... great thing that they use linux, but not all that linux is good! Its how you apply it. Vacuum tubes used for communication in stormy weather via AM channels. no static. and tubes are as stable as hell.. or heaven! ;-)

    802.11a devices are not powerful and have difficulty with any objects that would obstruct the sight. to get near maximum speed, you have to sit in line of sight around 10-15 meters from the
    device. Bandwidth deteriorates quicky as you move behind walls.
    That was my experience with 802.11a. There should be intermediate solution @ 3.2 ghz or around there, so people can get better range out of their devices. 802.11a, is to be used as replacement of inhouse networks, nothing more.
    I guess this is great for cafes and alike due to reduced range, they don't have to step on each
    ones toes...

    Any medium to small time artists and few unfortunate to have negotiation with large reputation, don't get jack for CDs.
    Pirating CDs is good for the band, because you get to like the music and go to their concerts
    when and if they visit your stomping grounds.
    You go to concert, buy a shirt or two, and band
    gets rich from you liking the music that way.
    If you buy CDs, unless they are by Michael Jackson and alike, the rich part goes to RIAA
    friends, and jack squat to artists.

    Its clear that dude is not a programmer and does not understand difference between thread and process. Things have to be considerably cleaner with threads,
    as you can run over toes of anything. Apache 1.3 was built for dirty coding. Apache 2.0 has to expect a level of code quality. You have to be very careful.

    In other news:
    It is not clear why water company pipes cannot carry electicity. Electric companies are stunned at disconuity of water utility corporation.

    BESIDES: when people write modular code. indent. comment it. things are dead easy to rework. IF people are sloppy. That would be a lesson for them. Or pain to inheritors of the code and a good precedent to make requirements for clean code in the future.

    when distros will start shipping 2.0 as standard,
    everyone will "just use" it. Of course there would
    be some rejection rate, of stubborn people. 1.3
    development would stop and everyone would slowly roll over to 2.0.

    pro 2.0:
    - threaded stuff is blindingly fast. most systems threads are faster then processes
    - other new technologies, like layered content filtering are great for developers of hight traffic sites.

    pro 1.3:
    very very many people using apache use linux. Linux threads are almost same performance as processes. Due to kernel limitation, you can stack only so many threads per process.Plus threaded model does not account for stability. One NULL pointer dereference and you're gone. Apache2.0 of course uses bundles of threads. so you still have multiprocess model kicking around.

    Expect 2.0 gain popularity on systems like Sun, BSD and Win32 where processes handling is relatively expesive. Threads are dirt cheap.

    As everything, things take time. Just like well brewed beer.

    If ISP is a business, it will try to squeeze most out of T1. If you host stuff it might be good.
    Otherwise getting business ADSL/Cable/Wireless would be better idea. Having your own T1 linked to Backbone is reallly nice idea, if the sharing parties don't abuse it. Its only around 150k downstream , think of it that way.

    Its best to put switch that would have traffic counter on the ports so if someone is abusing
    the T1, everyone else would be able to see that.
    Setup a mail script to query switch/router, and send daily mails to respective parties.

    what this reminds me of, is of natural competition:
    "my penis is bigger then yours, because I have a bigger car". It is faulty logic, as many do agree nowadays, but it does not stop people from repeating the excersize. Similarly here, benchmarks are nothing but fictitious statement, taking some program that is written by people(source of most errors in logic), and ouput of it as good indicator of what cpu is good at. Nevermind chipsets, auxiliary hardware and many other things. If people who buy computers in large quantities would take these benchmarks for any guilding value, they are to be called suckers. Those with real brains, will take two instances of same cpu put them into same box, boot the computer and let two computers do the same thing many computers will do, when purchased in larger quantity. If you don't do this, you would be 'easy' to be taken advantage of, by computer businesses.

    and full cooperation of FBI. Fact is army
    can shoot anyone for accessing systems that carry
    classified data. And no, they just can cite
    terrorism, forge evidence, and viola you got
    scentenced for life, with no right for anything.
    Screw geneva convention, screw the constitution.
    These guys either are really really stupid, or
    ballsy. Anyway +5 karma for them doing that.

    It seems that miliary is running its offices
    looser then any given computer corporation.

    Where are the old days when army ran unix
    mainframes and fully qualified sysadmins where
    manning the networks? Its not that hard to lock
    down the network and keep a watchful eye on it.
    Whats certain, is that there is definete advantage
    to working in corporation, as compared
    to government. And so the many minds make a choice.
    Perhaps there is a place for reform, we the people, the taxpayers, who pay for their asses to
    sit in the offices, would expect them to run pretty smooth operation. Not this hippie shit.

    we'll speak then. Think of it that way, tiny urbanterror levels are around 5 - 50MB. And they are not that detailed. Nevermind interfaces, if downloading takes > 2 min., I would be torturous. See you, when I can have bandwidth at 0.02c / 100G, at 100Mbits/s to my home.
    There is alot of dark fiber here, in vancouver, but my guess would be that most places in north america would be luck to have 10mbit consistent everywhere.
    It is still far far away. Dream on slashdotters.

    Actually they can convert all books they have to computer media, and OCR new books as they come in, making them searchable resource. It is draconian, but would reduce search times by magnitude.
    You can store scanned images that relate to the book, that related to specific row in image, so
    they can look and see if there are pictures
    and other things in the book.
    Hollywood movie shows did have some of those "image" text scanners, which are not vialble, but when armed with pre-translated text indexes, can become really useful. And library can be online for students. One thing stopping all that is absence of software, and effort to scan all the books properly.

    For one thing you can get students to do scanning for few extra credis, software can be a project of under- and graduate students, so can be hardware,like page scanners if not available commercially already.

    Rational suite, including tests was a piece of crap when we worked with it. We switched to XP and everyone started having great time coding, due to allowance of concurrent programming...
    If you want to get job done right, I would recommend eXtreeme Programming, over most other ideologies.

    Damnit! Society is not ready for computers! People are dumb and gonna screw this one up too, in process of trying to control it ... with absence of time and/or intelligence to understand it. Computers ... and misunderstanding issues with them, is not as dangerous as genetic engeneering, that many commercial interests, who don't have full grip on science of genome, already trying to convince people that particular ways of doing and implementing genoscience is good... .. my head hurts, I will stop writing now ...

    I think if these guys will get adaptor for one of those cheap folding palm keyboards, it would be a palm killer, just little to bulky... now if anyone can still be as iconic as portable TRS...
    now we will be talking, I think Palms came closest. Harddrives do not go well into portables, because portables are "out on the field", so solid state of some sort is sort of make it or break it deal... but with solid state lagging so far behind in speed(not seek time) , density and price I guess we will have to wait a while longer. I heard people dropping their portable TRS machines and still using them after 10 times doing so. Try it with this one!

    Businesses will try to screw others out of dollars most effective ways. Given that horizon for most software companies life expectancy is around 1-2 years(IMHO) the faster you collect money in the beginning of life cycle, the more likely you are going to survive later, nevermind those pesky customers. You can tell them damn lies, lies and more lies, but if your bank is empty, you have no business.
