Problem is that the average person doesn't have any idea how to find the responsible party or to report the spam.

I'd love to see the next version of Outlook/Outlook Express include a spam button. Upon clicking the button, O/OE would parse the message header, lookup the source IP in WHOIS and contact all necessary parties to report the spam.

The only way for this to work is for MS to put in directly in Outlook/Outlook Express (or AOL putting it in). That is what the majority of users are using, and you can't expect them to know about or install a 3rd party utility.

Imagine how the admins at ISPs would react to a veritable flood of spam reports.

I've been doing consulting for five years. If I'm called to fix a problem that is my fault, then I do not charge the client for that. If the problem is the result of something the client did, then I charge.

Doing it the other way, why not be a sloppy coder? That way you guarantee yourself future work. Don't bother documenting your work, either. That way, they'll have to call you.

I try to offer my clients a good service. Part of that is behaving in a way that I feel is honest. I think that my clients appreciate that and look forward to working with me in the future because of it.

  13. Data driven applications on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

I develop data driven applications for a living. It's not very easy to do that in Linux. Sure, I could use Perl, PHP, or something like that, but it'd be command line or web based, neither of which is desirable. Web based interfaces are good for some things, but not all things. Command line interfaces are good for nerds, not for users.

In Visual Basic, it is very easy to develop a data driven application, either for reporting or for data entry/maintenance. If you use Perl or Python, how do you develop the GUI? Tk? That's not very easy. In VB, you start out with a form, throw controls on it by dragging and dropping and throw some code around it. Does it make me a bad programmer that I like this? No. Does it make me less of a programmer? No. It makes me smart. My employer pays me for getting work done, not for beind idealistic. I can throw a recordset into Excel (the way the accounting department wants their reports) in 5 lines of code in VB, and I didn't have to wander all over CPAN to figure out how.

I also do some things in Magic. Yes, it runs on Linux, but most everything else we use doesn't so I don't use the Magic version of it. For data driven programs, nothing is faster than Magic. It's a whole different paradigm for programming, and it is one that I suggest you learn.

I believe it has a lot to do with the level of commitment in your relationship and the emotional depth to which you expose yourself to your partner. You could argue that Christians are more devoted to their spouse due to their following of the teachings in the Bible that guide them to be more devoted and to give more of themselves to their spouses.

    Two disclaimers:
    • I don't believe that making this argument says that non-Christians can't have good marriages - I just think it goes to the likelihood of a strong emotional foundation. (Non Christians can have very good, strong marriages - don't misinterpret what I am saying.)
    • Christians may vary. Just because someone is a Christian does not make them perfect. Likewise, it does not make them a better spouse. Christianity provides them with a good foundation from which to work.
