Agreed. BTW, the CNNIC cert is not included in the Firefox 3.6 package in PCLinuxOS. "Government Root Certificate Authority" (Taiwan) is included (despite a more sinister name) and a few other foreign companies are, but none are to be seen from CNNIC.

Colodrado is a clear Rebublican state...A bill like this could only pass in truely contested states. In a state, like Colorado, where one party dominates its against their best interest to let this go through.

I agree with you that this is a mostly Republican state, but how many of those Republicans are going to vote this year is less clear. From what I've seen, there are quite a few fed-up Republicans actively working on the Kerry campaign, at least in the Denver metro area. They include the people you'd expect to be and vote Republican: bankers, real estate professionals, etc. Plus, CO has a lot of refugees from California. Travel down the highway and for every pro-Bush/Cheney bumper sticker, you see 10 anti-Bush stickers.

I, too, am a vehemently independent voter and I embrace the idea of proportional electoral votes. I even signed the petition. But, I only think it's effective if all states distribute electoral votes proportionally.

I, too, was looking for a keyboard/mouse emulator for a machine that's being housed in a colo facility. I'm using PS2 components, as well, and cringe at the thought of plugging and unplugging PS2 devices into a running machine.

Then, I strolled into CompUSA and saw this Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo. The PS2 connectors stay plugged into the machine and the (nice, UFO-shaped, blinking-light) receiver stays duct-taped to the top of the machine.

All I need to do is remember to take the keyboard and mouse along with me to the colo facility when I need to make a personal visit.

...it seems like in the U.S alot have been focused on military and military research last few years...

For a fraction of the cost of a weapon system - the F-22 perhaps, or an aircraft carrier - I think that we'd be able to devise the machinery and methods to turn out a widget in the US at far less cost and far greater quality than any factory in China.

For another fraction of that weapon system, we could:
    • Fund a long-term PR campaign that makes teaching as a profession desirable again
    • Fund a long-term PR campaign that makes success in school something to which students aspire
    • Fund a "trade school" educational track for those students who cannot and will not be successful in the traditional education system
    • Raises the pay of teachers to a respectable level
    • Halve (or more) the cost of secondary education by increasing grants, scholarships, etc

It's pie-in-the-sky speculation and will never happen. The US does not have the political will to affect the necessary changes to make it happen.
