    I've had my webserver/firewall/sendmail/imap server up for just about 7 years now. No hacks. And yes there were hack attempts. You have to be be a good admin. sure Sendmail has holes, but if you configure correctly your system can not be breached.

    Hi,

    I don't know about you but I haven had luck with samsung. I own a samsung minidv camcorder and a cuircuit board blew up within 18 months of owning it. The LCD and viewfinder screens have no video, just backlight is on. It charges, and plays, but that's it. If samsung would take my old scd80 and
    send me one of these new digital camcorders running linux I would forgive them and buy other samsung products... but for now i would not buy another samsung product because I am not convinced that they last.

    This IPOD killer won't work for me. I sample at
    a High rate.. most of my tunes are 256k or 320k.
    I've got 1,370 songs currently and 7GB of storage left. I passed the 5GB mark long ago.

    You should always buy an lcd monitor with the fastest response time. I have a NEC LCD1765, it
    has a resonse time of 6ms. Fast enough for no mouse lag, and fast enough for 3D gaming!

    I bet you are around 25ms, that's slow enough to get mouse lag.

    artifical prions into food. I've always believed that AIDS was a bioengineered virus. And to weaponize it someday who knows, it could be spiced with the common cold. Imagine how some sick bastard can weaponize an artificial prion. This is pretty damn scary if you ask me.

    on the iPod, (I use gtkpod on Linux). Limewire
    also to collect some tunes that I don't have.

    "We the people" have power over this. You should only work for a fair employer. If your on salary you should get "Comp Time!" Heck I went to work early today (5:30am) to add some more /tmp space
    to one of our Oracle development boxes, I'm going home at 2:00pm today.

    If you don't work for a fair employer, leave and
    find a fair employer or outsource yourself.

    The hardware I use is the same across the board,Dell Poweredge 6650 boxes. I use the Distribulator to manage all 20 boxen. I do source compile on one box and then push the code up to the rest of the boxes with the distribulator.

    I made a move 2 months ago. I used to work as a
    consultant for several state agencies. A friend of
    mine informed me about a pretty cool position opening up at one of the premier juice companies.
    I'm now the Linux Systems Specialist there. They are truly cutting edge with EMC San, VMWARE, Oracle
    9i and 10g. It's fun here!

    Only buy opensource supported products. The demand
    will drive the market. This is also what we would need to do as soon as the PC gets locked up with
    the new Award Bios. Demand has to be so low that it
    will just about drive the home PC vendors out of business. then and only then DRM will be dropped.

    I'm stocking up on some hardware now, that way if my
    desktop or firewall does die, I can build a new one.

    Hopefully your college of choice offers a Merit
    Scholorship. While this won't pay your entire tuition it will help. Also don't lock yourself into just one college. My son for example had a high enough SAT and GPA to get into M.I.T, but that's to
    get in... At the college of his choice, he had enough to get in and earn a merit scholorship, this merit scholorship will give hime 32,000 over four years. So this helps. It pays for a little over one year.

    Here's an idea. You can call the large tech companies in your area to see if they want to
    sponsor you. In return you offer to work at a reduced rate for a set amount of time.
