The cold war was a larger expenditure of our nation's wealth than WWII. Virtually none of those millionaires would of existed without government contracts, which are notoriously not free market.
The problem with the Flynn effect is that it does not account for the decreased usage of IQ tests in schools, employment and the military - which constituted the vast majority of usage. Whereas even 25 years ago you might have a pool of millions of results for a given populace, today you are finding that in some countries it has been hard to find 10,000.
When color TVs became affordable for the consumer market and television programs started broadcasting in color the amount of garish costumes and set designs and other "look ma, its in color" gaucherie was lampooned mercilessly. The technology was refined and eventually turned out alright, even though it went through a stage at the advent of color when it verged on the psychedelic.
Discounting 3D at this stage of the technology is a patently absurd prognostication given the history of the TV.
You 7 digit IDs are so overwhelmingly alarmist about the quality of stories here but looking over the complainers I hardly see any of you submitting any. So put up or shut up sonny.
Yeah, but do the Welsh? I read something recently that having a Welsh accent in the UK gets you something like 10-20% less money over a career, but having an American one gets you more than most Brits.
They have close to 200 million people, how can you say they have nothing left to lose? US companies announce armed UAVs almost daily now, are you showing them the same sort of scrutiny considering Iran has never launched a hostile war in over 100 years? Thought so.
Also the new industry from a nuclear power plant is pretty staggering when you think that in 30-40 years Iran could be competing on the international market with their own reactor designs in places like Africa.
So again, is the type of dysfunction actually physically different between a person who plays 13-16 hours of MMORPG games or Heroin a day, I would think they would be more similiar than nought.
When someone's malicious Trojan, Virus or other Malicious Coding will be used as evidence in a murder/manslaughter trial; however, what is needed, is a day when any seriously incompetent bit of code on a vital system should have the potential to be used in criminal court. I'm an Mechanical Engineer and I have to have a certification and insurance even as a contractor, why should I have to spend 1000's of dollars a year doing so I can work on building the mechanical systems of the plane when the programmers involved in avionic hardware don't? It would be like having licensing requirements for all doctors involving the body except Psychologists and Brain Surgeons.
A kid used to cost little more than a dog to keep around before doctors, schools and the like. My sister spent 40k last year on her daughter, including private school, that's more than my entire Bachelor's Degree.
Show me a picture of a dead American soldier in a major news paper and maybe I will believe you. Afghanistan is going on longer than Vietnam because we have no sense of what is going on over there except a bunch of words. Its like living in a time before there were cameras, even the Crimean had pictures of dead bodies on both sides published in newspapers at the time.
No, but since the first Gulf War when they changed how reporters operate, pictures can be taken and statistics collected war has been sanitized of any moral ambiguity so much that people react to anyone the US bombs back into the stone age as Nazis. Oh wait, you can play Nazis in like 10 games.
You know what millions of people on wireless networks look like in EM? Its fine and dandy for a few megabytes here and there but try to stream Netflix to those millions of people and we simply don't have the technology to build a robust enough Wireless infrastructure to make that happen. Streaming, Video Calls and other high bandwidth applications are much easier to implement in a traditional wired network model. We will get there with wireless but it is going to take some serious R&D to make it as cheap as stringing Fiver Optic and Cat 5.
Because some locales depend on cops getting hired out for revenue generation. NYC, when it lost the Law and Order franchise stated it was losing a few million a year, some of that was paying cops to police sets.

Its like watching someone trying to bullshit about the structuralism and analytical Marxism to get into the pants of an Anthropologist chick.

I highly doubt that you could hire 2 competent programmers for 200k, let alone release a prototype in less than 6 months.
Its a blatant appeal to authority argument which is a oft repeated and believed fallacy.
The understanding of fallacies should be required to get a license to internet forums.
Who cares, unless it affects his work duties?
Maybe they should use it on themselves.
They will use all this goodwill to doing something horrible, you watch.

If we are still using Ethernet in 20 years time I would be quite surprised.
Already happening, sending 3 copies to a friend stationed in Iraq. He plans to sell them for 100 bucks a pop.
Art is never the normal, normativeness spawns illustrations, advertising and the like.
The new blu-ray set of LOST is supposed to have a 12 minute "epilogue" that at least answers where the food was coming from.

Are you implying the mind is not physical?
