I don't believe I made a comment either for or against the second amendment in my post. I just wanted the actual text of it to be known. The only thing I wrote that was an opinion is that it's no longer necessary for the average citizen to be ready to join a militia to defend our country.

If guns have no good value, why was it so important to place the right in the Constitution?

Well, they weren't placed in the Constitution, they were placed in the Bill of Rights, which came later. Here's the actual text:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The world, especially the USA, was a very different place in 1789. The land that our country occupied then shared borders with not entirely friendly other countries (Spain, France, and Britain). It was necessary for those people to be able to form a quick army to defend our borders. This is no longer necessary since we have a full time standing army.

Well, for me personally, it's an easy to use Usenet binary mass-decoder. I trade a lot of live music on-line and Usenet is a great way to do it. I use Newsleecher for Windows XP and it's great. There is binary-decoder for Linux (I forgot it's name) but it's not very fun to use.

Also, my Belkin wireless card is kind of supported using ndiswrapper under Linux. It will work, then stop, then hang the system, then not work for three reboots, then work again. (This is under Ubuntu, Debian, and Gentoo).

  15. Re:Movie Theaters are Obsolete on Piracy Not To Blame In Decline of Moviegoers · · Score: 3, Interesting
While I mostly agree with your assessment of the current theater-going situation, I've made a number of changes to my theater-going routine to remedy some of the problems that you mentioned, and my girlfriend thanks me as well!
    • Late afternoon matinees. Costs you about 60% of the normal ticket price, plus most of the screaming teenagers tend to avoid these showtimes.
    • BYOS. Bring your own soda. Chances are there is a nearby gas-station or perhaps your own fridge that is stocked to the gills with 20oz Mt. Dew. One of these babies will only run you $1.25 where I live, and will save you about $4.
    • I still have a weak spot for the popcorn, but I've made the change to go down the junior size. The plus side of this is that you're consuming less calories, which is good, and you don't feel like a stuffed pig afterwards.

So I've gotten my movie fix down to about $10 for the whole deal: Ticket, soda and popcorn. The commercials do still annoy me, so I tend to not show up until 5 minutes before the show starts, and since no one goes to the late afternoon shows, it's still no big deal getting a good seat.

  25. Re:sometimes ripoff, sometimes not on William Gibson on The Age of The Remix · · Score: 1
William Gibson's comment of the record being archaic is wrong, because the whole idea of remixing and DJ sets has to do with vinyl records. Sure, some people do "DJ sets" with CDs, but the vast majority of professionals still do it with records, or at least know how to.

I think by record, he means a collection of songs by a single artist grouped together and put out on a medium, whether it be a vinyl record, cassette tape, or CD.

I disagree with him as well on that point.
