    Obviously you were not alive for the Carter administration. Didn't destroy the economy?? He was on watch for double-digit inflation, an impotent Fed, and left a legacy of one of the most far-reaching recessions since the depression and the worst since. It was Reagan who instructed the Fed - Paul Volker - to clamp down inflation once and for all... something Carter didn't have the balls to do. We were thrown into anothe recession but it was the last one for nearly 10 years - something unheard of at the time.

    Carter was unfortunate to inherit the mess from Nixon... such as enacting clean air act at the same time the OPEC embargo came into effect. Industry wasn't prepared and it threw things into chaos for much of the 70's. He did get us started on the road to deregulation, so Carter had some good points.

    but he was NO Ronald Reagan.

    The Republican party post-Goldwater died in '88 when the Bush family ascended to the throne and have tried to destroy everything Reagan built.

    The VIC-20 was a poor man's Atari 800. The 800 was *expensive* - atleast for me a college student at the time - whereas the VIC-20 was affordable and a modem could be had for under $100 bucks so I could atleast do dial up to finish my Fortran assignments. ROFL!!

    The Lego company just kept doing business as it always had... which was fine when the bricks were selling, but once the video game crowd eroded their sales - they tanked. Since, they have laid off a number of employees - not making the town they reside in happy but the alternative was much worse. They have also moved production off to eastern european countries where labor costs are reasonable and they can compete in the global market. The new CEO means business and I am optimistic they will survive and maybe thrive.

    That company started acting like a bureaucratic siv. Towards the end of the glory days, there were as many slackers doing "research" as folks doing actual work. My group was bounced around from project to project with no focus. We were aligned with Bell Labs, therefore AT&T groups wanted our expertise... even if it was for stupid shit like "add some ksh code to our home-grown ksh database system". Like WTF??

    I could go on and on...
