your idea intrigues me, can I sub... errr, I mean can you get me a couple hundred modded x-boxes by the weekend? Oh yeah, would you please make sure to include a cheque for the difference in my power bill over the life of the product.;-)
Deodorant optional? I think not. (This is not the place to get into why and how the Japanese are way cleaner than must of us "whities", but, as far as deodorant goes I find quite the opposite of what you say.) Anyhow, to me, the morning trains smell worse than the evening ones. I am a "morning shower" person - bath/shower at the gym at night - so to me the Japanese tradition of bathing only at night is not natural. I just can't make myself get out of bet wash my face, throw on some deodorant and head for the station. I need to wash off the night's sweat. On the evening trains however, we all stink the same.:-)
Mind you, that's another reason why I ride my bike to work instead of taking the train.
As for the shinkansen... dude, do I feel your pain. It's just amazing that almost always there are open seats on the smoking cars but not on the non-smoking ones. Would this not make business sense to have more, or ALL, non smoking cars? EVERYTIME I had no choice but to take a sit in a smoking car I have heard people around me bitch about not being able to get sits on a non-smoking car. EVERYTIME.
I do it all the time in Tokyo weather. No problem. You get there early, wait a few minutes to stop sweating, and do the "towel wash and change of clothes" thing.
It must mean I am in FANTASTIC shape. I kick traffic's butt any day of the week. Oh yeah, I commute in Tokyo... never mind... my father could probably kick traffic's butt here.
Been there, done that. Would never go back to a "standard" setup. Mind you, I don't do games, so even "cheap" LCDs are aceptable. There are some people better served by one BIG display, but I think most of us would be better served by multiple smaller displays. YMMV and all that.
Err... and when was the last time that a robber had to flash his "concealed carry permit" before being able to bust a cap in some poor schmuk's ass?
It's just as easy to get a handgun in the Vancouver/Toronto as is to get one in New York/Chicago. Hell, it would take me less than a evening to get my hands on a handgun in Tokyo, for that matter. The difference is cultural.
How about we use tests for the _TEACHERS_ instead? That would get rid of most of the "idiots." No?

I've been living in Japan for a "few" years, so for all I know things have changed a lot in Canada; but, when I was still living in Vancouver it was quite common for me to see a LOT of big bills. Mind you, not as many 1.000 as 100s and 50s.
It's probably going to be a bit of a shock for me when I move back this fall. Here in Tokyo I feel "naked" if I have less than the equivalent of C$500 in my wallet. When I visit Canada my parents are always worried about my walking around with a bunch of hunderds in my wallet, it's absolutely natural to me. Shrug.

The other day I paid for my insurance with a 1.000 dollar bill - yes, one thousand Canadian dollars bill.
You should have seen the lady's face. Very funny, actually, as she had seen me put one bill on the counter while she was still filling in some stuff. The insurance came to just under 1000, so she was sitting there talking to my father and waiting for me to put more bills on the counter. First time for her, or anyone in that office, to see 1.000 bills.
Sorry, I am not the original poster, but I would have to say, "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand it." (No, I haven't served in any of the US mil. branches; hell I am not even 'merican.)
That would suit me, and other obnoxiously rich fucks like myself, just fine. If not for the "points," that is. I don't know how it works where you usually drive, but here in Japan not only do you have to pay a fine, but you also get points. Get to many points in a given period... there goes your licence. Damn this is annoying, what's the point of being stinking filthy rich if you can't break the law and... and... just write a check.

Agreed. But, for many people AOL is the only option.
I was 1/2 joking. One of the reasons it's not.99 in Japanese is because the pronounciation for "99" has almost the same sound as that for "emergency". So, in a way it is cultural.

I am quite sure they already have. I think they call it the "Y" chromosome ... if I recall correctly.
Mmm ... don't know ... get bigger pockets??? :-)
Could well be you are right, but, as the saying goes "just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you." No?

Indeed, but "peddling your ass that distance" would also land you in jail in most countries, not to mention making you late for work.

In my experience, people use 'can' most of the time, and get the meaning from the context.

On the Win side ..."DVD Idle pro" does just that. Well, and more...
