" Oh my god. At this very moment I'm so ashamed of being french."
Maybe you could explain to me, honestly, why France seems to feel the need to reinvent EVERYTHING and give it a French spin? It's as though nothing is good enough unless there's an accented character in the name. This is just another perfect example, although I'm stunned they'd partner with MS, as that's just another US giant. I'd expect them to go with some French company.
Basically, why must France do things differently just for the reason of being different? If there's a valid reason, that's one thing, but JUST to be different, that's just obnoxious and a waste of resources.
Out of interest, in the US do you call a single piece a Lego?
Yep. the most common US usage is that a pile of bricks are Legos, one brick is a Lego, if your mom bought you a new box kit you'd generally say, "My mom bought me some new Legos," or "My mom bought me a new Lego set" where "Lego set" means the kit of bricks. In less common use we'd call an individual brick a brick, or piece, or Lego brick/Lego piece.
It's like in the UK they call them Hoovers, while we call them sweepers or vacuums (or vacuum sweeper, to be long winded). Over there, the brand is inexorably linked with the item, regardless of maker. We do that with Legos, er, Lego bricks.:)
While we're also talking about knock offs, Tyco made play bricks like Lego bricks (man, it's actually difficult to remember to call them that, not Legos) that were compatible, but like a previous poster's comment about C3 bricks, they just weren't the same. Lego got the product perfect, everyone else is just inferior. I'd love to see a Star Trek license from Lego instead of the waves of Star Wars licensed stuff. Too many specialized peices ruin the fun, IMO...
Too much of the smoke escaped. Capacitors are smoke reserviors. It sounds like ther ewas a clog on the drain side of the capacitor, and the pressure of the smoke popped the capacitor. Since you say it was a used PSU, it could be that there was a build up of burnt electrons in it, and they clotted.
Dude, if you know this, you can save it. Buy identical caps, and go to town with a soldiering iron. Of course, most "geeks" these days would never do such a thing. I remember when we'd never throw out hardware just because it was "broken".:)
Actually, porn purveyors are much less likely to crackdown on small time copyright infringement. Why? Free advertising. Why do you think they put logos and URLs on images? Back in the old days of BBSs, they realized that the small time informal distribution network of customers supplying what equates to "samples" of their product got them a LARGER revenue stream. Websites know these rules, and let small time "piracy" go, they only go after sites that are charging for "stolen" content, or sites that are copying massive amounts of content.
How can this app be too successful when this is exactly what it was designed to do? Are tanks too effective when they obliterate an enemy vehicle? Come on folks, let's stick to reality. Spammers are flooding mailboxes around the world with unwanted packets. If I go more than 12 hours without checkign my email, it takes a loooooong time to get through all the spam. Is that not denying me the service of my email and net connection? No one likes political correctness taken to extremes. It just becomes a parody of itself. People are opting in to visit URLs that spammers put out to the world to visit, this app merely automates this process. It's completely legit, it's just playing the game in a manner less slanted towards teh spammers.
But that doesn't cut it. You dont' need to find out who started sharing the file, because that's no more or less illegal than continuing to share it. You just wind up with more infringing parties by involving people who are mere transporters of files they don't care to share. With BitTorrent in it's current incarnation, only people who want the file infringe.:)
Yes! I mean, really, who the hell thinks FedEx has 70,000 white collars (managers/execs I guess he thought?) that only work 4 months a year? Why would he say that? That's an absurd answer. I mean, had he said "Jackson Hewitt" or something that'd have been more plausible.
Ok, CNN just replayed that moment, and he did not look surprised at all. The weather guy just commented "He layed down. Come on! What kind of answer is FedEx! They work three hundred and sixty-six days a year!" So, we're not the only ones to not believe this.
Ahh, tonight on CNN at 7pm Eastern Standard Time, on the Anderson Cooper 360 show Ken Jennings will be on with Anderson. So maybe we'll find out if he took a dive...
He could at least have kept Dorthy a girl, rather than changing it to a boy. After all, isn't the core of the film "A young girl awakens in an alien landscape to discover she has accidentally killed a woman. She later conspires with three strangers to kill again."?:)
Hunger is not a disease. It is a function of an organism's body to trigger eating. Further, yes, a nest is natural, and houses are not natural for birds.
I assume that for purposes of this discussion you're treating human society as definitively not part of nature? In that case yes, whatever we do we can never be subjected to "natural" selection in the sense that you use the word "natural". Well done.
That was my point for the very beginning. By our intelligence, and ability to change our environment, we've "evolved" past the ability of natural selection to affect us, which was the parent post's point. And as such, we should not be so quick to rule out humane eugenics, human cloning therapies, and genetic engineering, so that we can start to stamp out things like sickle cell anemia, various genetic cancers (as opposed to environmental cancers, which we can help prevent in other ways), a multitude of birth defects, etc.
Sure I think it's kinda creepy to think about "designer babies" but even if we outlaw that, we keep genetic engineering to purely theraputic uses, there will still be law breakers, but it should be still thought to be worth while. Athletes take steroids, human growth hormone, and other performance enhancers to cheat in sports, but there are millions of people who have been helped medically by these treatemts.
Hell, ther are already "chimeras" out there, human/animal hybrids. Human insulin is created by taking human insulin genes and splicing them into bacteria. It's out there folks, time to stop being scared of the wheel.
What afflictions do birds treat? Where are medical schools for birds? Yes, feeding is natural. Taking antibiotics is not. by definition, if it's found in nature, it's natural. Show me a cancer clinic run by and for sparrows.
No, the part of natural selectionhe's speaking of is who can breed successfully, the offspring live long enough to breed, and in sufficient numbers to ensure the survival of the species. Birds don't have fertility clinics for birds who can't breed naturally. Birds don't have medical treatments for diseases and afflictions that would kill before the age of reproduction, etc. Thus, we are artificially helping defective genes survive.
Of course it won't be ready in two months, but that's never stopped MS before. That's not their way. Their mantra isn't "when it's done" but "release early and often", and then eventually get it right. By releasing early, however, they get users too lazy to unknowledgable to switch later.
I am annoyed that I can't cite sources, but I'm not keen on losing some hard earned sources inside Google, nor getting them in trouble. There was somewhat of a witch hunt inside Netscape trying to figure out who leaked various bits about NS7 plans to me. I have no desire to get Google folks in troube next.:)
What, can't a nerd believe in God?
For somethings, that's the only way to ensure citizens do the right thing.
"Measure twice, cut once." IE, do it right the first time.

You, sir, have obviously never worked in government.
Am I the only one to read that as "Nipple"? I sure hope not...

I have a patent on triangular tires.
No thanks, I'm trying to cut back.

Wow. It's times like this I really wish a moderation option was "-1 Douchebag"

I still want to see his take on "Strawberry Shortcake". ;)

The stick you piint two has essentially two 128MB "partitions" so your single 512MB HDD partition will be four times too large.
It's a good yarn. Too bad the ending it, shall we say, open to interpretation. :)

Yeah, it's not like SuicideGirls.com itself is a goth chick porn site or anything.
