Although the request to stop the site is fine if it was using the scrabble board design and colours, some of their demands are not.
a) surely they should prove the extent of the distribution? b) you can't copyright rules can you? anyone can play the game however they like. c) what commercial activity? he doesn't charge. d) nor does their seem to be any intent to profit from the domain, so he shouldn't have to hand that to hasbro, he could easily host a fan site on it.
The TV license is justifable and acceptable 'tax' as it provides us the the BBC and pays for a lot of the broadcasting infrastucture.
A PC/Computer is not, as the government did not pay for the infrastructure, nor are they a provider of any non-gov related content.
They've already charged us, as there is taxes in the ISP bills that we all have to pay to use the net. TV cards are already detectable and taxable under the tv license rules.
ICANN is no good any more, to heavily influenced by a single government. UN is no good because well its not really united.
This kind of organization needs to dissaociate itself from any government or country, as the matters they handle are mainly technological. Most if not all of the internet needs to be handled in the same way. As for how we can do this, now that's a question!
The bigger problem is that TLD's and URL's in general are too out of date, and without that many rules..com for example should only be given to actively global commercial entities, not a local shopping chain, ditto for the rest of the main tld's org, net, gov etc
Oh and no one has the automatic right to domain names, (exp possibly.gov.??) ie microsoft has to apply for.com and.co.us or whatever, if somebody got there first then tough, you can buy it from them. And the misdirects argument is not a reason to hand over domains, if you don't advertise your url properly then that's your fault.
Also we loose out on the quality, 24 etc are being shown in HD and with 5.1 sound...If I watched 24 on cable in the uk I get video quality that can be so poor it looks like a realvideo from the dialup era. I'm also forced to use a naff cable box that often crashes, and no way of properly linking a dvd recorder into the system. Tivo pretty much died over here (probly because we were limited to one box manufacture) The only good thing about cable in the uk is that's its reasonably priced, unlike the ripoff merchants at Sky.
This is just scaremongering, pretty much everything can kill you if taken/exposed to in the extremes.
Daft report, it's only outcome is to confuse and worry parents/public. The only thing it does get right is that parents shouldn't give little kids phones early, but not because it might, one day, possibly hurt them.
I don't get this charge to receive, its just so illogical, do you get a choice? no, then how can the carrier(we call them operator's here in the UK) justify the charge?
Doesn't the US have a regulator to stop this unfair treatment of the public?
In the UK when the networks first started, they did have different rates for cross network calls, but again this was quickly forced out by the OFCOM (the uk regulator) for the same reason, the person using the phone shouldn't be charged for the operators/carriers technological ineptedness.
I started a new job in jan this year, and the main password used some of these rules, mixed case, numbers >8 chars etc
I lasted 6 months before I went to a password that I increment each time.
I think the problem was not that needed to come up with a new password each time, but the fact that I had around 8 different passwords to change (with different rules as well!) making the entire process a pain in the arse.
I want to go to work to work, not change passwords.

this is so true...music could then be released in different formats, crappy but cheaper 128kbs mp3 for the masses or slightly more expensive lossless for the audiophiles.
I don't think they need to wait a year either, not for music or books, maybe a few months for tv/movies.
Once they setup and automate the creation of the digital format, it should be done after the master comes of the line. I mean how hard would it be to setup something that takes the raw master, the associated press stuff and post it to one of their servers somewhere? all of the new sources are probly digital anyways.
it's a pity though...would love to be able to see more of the Wing's games...but I can't stay up till 2-3am when they are shown, 'occasionally', over here in the UK.
Firstly nukes can be detected from space, however big/small they are.
As for the lack of information this is because there wasn't any! There was no western journalist anywhere near North Korea, the closest we had at the time of the blast was a Junior Foreign Minister from the UK. It is also a communist state, and its rulers are in control. So no news sites or much of anything else are online, there are only 2 or so that I found. 1 was actually south korea, and the 2nd had a jpn domain, so not exactly reliable.
Information doesn't just appear out of the ether, it has to be gotten or given by people.
I've read the article (maybe i've misread it but its 8:30am and a saturday:)) and although I can see lots of bashing of SQL, XML and nulls going on I can't see any 'alternative' or solutions suggested.
you notice the noise when its sitting there on but not when its playing games/movies/mp3. Oh and this is with a modded box using a 120gb hd, so might not apply to a normal box.
This bluetooth issue is so strange...its a minor thing in the states, not much seems to use it, so no one sees its use and dismisses it.
Here in the UK bluetooth is pretty much a must if a mobile phone is gonna sell well (esp after the knee jerk law banning mobile useage in cars). And if your phone as it, your PDA needs it (other wise how the hell are they supposed to communicate?), your laptop or pc needs it for the same reason.
Bluetooth is a great short range, low power, small technology. What else is there? WiFi, yea right.
But I think its the difference is mobile usage, quite a few people I know don't bother with a landline at all...whats the point in one, a house doesn't say much after all:)

come on have you seen any truthful advert? Of course the ad reads like MS is better than anything else, it would be a pretty stupid ad if it didn't.

so don't put the actual files on there, put the .torrent metadata!
hell you could even have the metadata as plain text so you wouldn't need to have a binary group.
any proof you'd like to link to??

I thought I was being clever/helpful by writing a little script/addin to IE that allowed you to jump to the coral cache of that page.
. htm
Details are here: http://www.cbeach.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/coraladdin
I then realized that if you could get to the page then you wouldn't need the script and if you couldn't get to the page then the script didn't work!
Dunno why I'm even posting this tbh...
What I don't understand is why the 2006 release date?
Surely if it doesn't look like it will be finished by then, then move the release date to 2007, or whenever they think it will be done.
I know I'd rather they took their time, made sure it was a quality product, than hack pieces of to make some arbitary release date.
Because a decent gui makes these server tasks easier, and therefore open to more people.
Text is complicated to use; little, if any, visual feedback, and the possible gains in stability are far less than the ability to sell to the masses.
I doubt even their hpc os will be text based.

Yea, ZoomPlayer (http://www.inmatrix.com/)

So CPU benchmarks are bogus, using algorithms that use internal memory over and over again.
So you make sure your benchmarks work on data larger than the cpu's cache, if you want to test cpu and memory as a combined system.

RRTA! He actually says one of the cards did bang, but cannot say if it is related!
These silent psu reviews a really getting annoying. Its not silent, merely quiet, maybe even very quiet...but its not, and never will be silent.
Any PSU (AFAIK pretty much anything) will never be silent if it has moving parts.
exactly
The guy obviously has no clue as to what makes a film.
If you do it through ACDSee they will open up with ACDSee fine.
In fact its harder to get the built in picture viewer back when you want it.
