And in fact, you can't protect cities in this way, because they tend to put airports near cities.
Yeah, think of National in DC - the main approach is right down the Potomac, & there are lots of buildings just off the flight path. It would be very tricky (though I guess not impossible) to create a safe narrow corridor with this scheme to allow landing there. Still, if the bugs could be worked out it might provide some safe zones in some areas. Worth a try, anyway.

  5. try RedMon on Special Edition Using Star Office 6.0 · · Score: 2, Informative

I've set up pdf printers for my users using redmon and ghostscript - with a little configuration it works great & all they see is a save as box.
    From the redmon directions:

PostScript written to a RedMon port can be converted to a PDF file using Ghostscript.
Install a printer driver for a colour PostScript printer, e.g. Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600. If you select a black and white printer such as Apple LaserWriter II NT you will end up with your colour images becoming greyscale.

To use RedMon and Ghostscript to create a PDF writer, you need to use the Ghostscript device pdfwrite. c:\aladdin\pdfwrite.rsp would contain:

    -Ic:\aladdin\gs6.0\lib;c:\aladdin\fonts
    -sDEVICE=pdfwrite
    -r300
    -dNOPAUSE
    -dSAFER
    -sPAPERSIZE=a4

    The Ghostscript command would be

    c:\aladdin\gs6.01\bin\gswin32c.exe

    and the arguments

    @c:\aladdin\pdfwrite.rsp -sOutputFile="%1" -c save pop -f -

Make sure you include the space and dash at the end of the line. Failure to do this could result in Ghostscript stalling the print queue. Output should be set to

    Prompt for filename

All other settings should be the same as the previous examples.

You may wish to rename the printer from Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 to Ghostscript PDF writer.

Once they get used to typing doc.pdf instead of just doc in the save as box you're done.

Really? Even the 2mb models can hold a bunch of books - right now I have Treasure Island (reading to my daughter) & 100 years of Solitude on my palm, the two together take up only 750k. The longest book I ever read on my Palm, Cryptonomicon, was 1.5mb; the paper version is 800+ pages. I've found that I'm always able to have an assortment of interesting books on hand. My first gen 512k Palm was a bit tight, but even that would hold shorter books or I'd just load a few chapters at a time. I think that reading books is the main reason I still use my Palm regularly, though I'd keep it just as an address book.

My best ever rebate was when I lived in the UK. Hoover had a deal where you could get a free round trip plane ticket to NY or FL if you bought a vacuum cleaner. Since the cost of the vacuum was far less than the cost of a plane ticket it was a no brainer. Unfortunately everyone else thought so too, and there was a run on vacuums, followed by layoffs at the Hoover plant when demand plummeted at the end of the promotion. Also, they had screwed up when contracting with the travel agent handling the bookings; instead of the large agency they'd intended, they signed up with a small agency with a similar name who couldn't handle the flood of mail. There was huge bad publicity and in the end only people who had sent by certified mail (like me) got their tickets. It's a textbook case of how to screw up a promotion royally, and the person responsible was fired.

So, if I let a user who's home with a sick kid make a PPTP connection so they can VNC to their desktop the cable company could argue that that user defrauded them by using the service without buying the businees level service (which, last I checked, they won't provide to residences). Which is one reason I've stuck with my speakeasy dsl connection so long even though I get a lot less speed than my cable buddies get, for more money. They let you run servers etc with no problems.

So I don't think you'll save a lot using an electric car, unless the government decides to provide incentives in the form of lower taxes on electricity. I have a D8 camcorder, my impression was that the reason that they were cheaper (at least 3 years ago when I bought mine) is that Sony had the tape transport mechanism all depreciated - it's just a Hi8/8mm transport running at double speed. The DV mechanism was all new & therefore more expensive. Hi8 tapes, again, have been mass produced for years and are naturally cheaper than DV tapes. I doubt that they're any worse for archive purposes, though.
